Trade & Draft Assessments

I think there is a place for Jordie in the future and am a fan of his endeavour but I would not be suprised if this is the case. Neeld is clearly pushing for bigger bodies in the midfield. For this to happen those who are less developed will not get game time in there. I expect this to affect McKenzie and Gysberts in particular. Jordies value at this time is as a tagger as well as his defensive acts. Collingwood never really played midfielders with the primary role as tagging and I would not be surpsied if Neeld is not similar mindsert. Jordies ballgetting ability's are limited and in most cases ineffective. I expect he will spend a fair chunk of the year at Casey getting more mature in body and improving his midfield craft.

Can't agree with this.

And do you recall a bloke playing for Collingwood by the name of Luke Ball?

Don't see why McKenzie couldn't play a similar role.

Yout know its the off season when we have posts picking holes in a young up-and-comer who goes about it in the right way.

He's not perfect, but who is?!

So, you were wrong, but you still choose to focus on a small aspect of the post, one that is subjective anyway, and attempt to use that to make you sorta right?

You were clearly wrong and you continue to be.

McKenzie's skills aren't half as bad as you paint them to be.

If anything, his at-times poor disposal in 2011 was by virtue of the places he gained possession of the football.

Your use of a throwaway, unverified line from Malthouse lend little extra weight to your argument.

Neil Craig was a clear fan.

And more than anything else, Neeld has promoted the need to fill the side with competitors who win their own footy - McKenzie is nothing if not a competitor.

Moloney will be gone from the list before McKenzie.

Do you require a tissue??

Every person has their opinion on all sorts in life... Malthouse as coach, Scully, Brownlow medals,Draft picks. At the end of day who really cares whos right or wrong, its not a competition. Its a forum with peoples opinions.

Seriously... Get over yourself.

Come on guys, the Malthouse thing is being taken out of context here. From my memory it was a game at Etihad where he also said the forwards were playing way out of position. It's hard to hit targets when they aren't presenting. Jordy came in well under prepared in 2011 but still gave us all he had, for some reason he always looked to hand off rather than kick and this is what Mick had a problem with, but at times maybe that was a better option than blazing away as beamer tends to do.

Big tick from me rjay,...and welcome.

Hahahaha right...

Sounds like something one would say when they suddenly realise they are thoroughly out of their depth when discussing a particular topic.

Did Ball play as a primary tagger? Has McKenzie suddenly matured into the body of a mid-late 20's Luke Ball. All I am saying with McKenzie is his body hasnt matured for the role he plays. I expect he will play games but spend a fair chunk at Casey while more mature bodies play the inside role he plays and while he rounds out the other parts of his game.

Ok they dangled the carrot. But as I said I think it was a bit over the top to say a big contract. He got offered more money hardly big? Rookies are on $40k.

I think you miss the point. McKenzie was offered a spot on the senior list which at minimum would have been a two year contract. He stayed with Melbourne on the Rookie list, punted on a long term injury to get a senior game and had no guarantee of a contract beyond the year.

Views on his skills may vary but his loyalty is exceptional and that he has won the coaches award for the last two years and the Heart and Soul Award last year says a great deal about him as a person.

I also think his skills are being underestimated here. He clearly played with injury last year missing the first batch of games with a groin problem and the fact that he is yet to join the main group at training this year indicates that even when he played last year he wasn't right.

If his body stands up this kid will end up in the leadership group at minimum.

This is one bloke I would go to war with. There are others with better skills etc but for passion, grit and determination You can't go past this bloke.

something that's been bugging me for a couple of days now...

why did we get nothing for addam maric? tigers picked him up, albeit with a rookie pick, so surely our marketing people should have been able to spruik him a bit and got us something anything for him?

Nth considered trading for him but went cool on the idea We had to delist him to have three picks(Compulsary) in the drafts No club offered anything for him.

Maybe because he is worth nothing?

Maybe because he is worth nothing?

obviously richmond rate him above others to put him on their list...

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
