Did you get on the panel ? I reckon you'd go alright on music trivia knowledge

noooooo...

there are some music freaks - I know a bit from the comfort of my armchair but I would be like a rabbit caught in the headlights if I got chosen to be on the panel.

Hey Hardtack - cracked an invite to the opening night of Memo tonight ( where we are seeing sports) - "jazz party" are playing - there are a couple out of Clairey Brownes band playing and sometimes Harry Angus from Cat Empire joins in - should be a hoot.

Full report tomorrow.

It was like a who's who last night.

Firstly - Harry Angus did join the Jazz party last night - they have a great sound. - especially if you like traditional jazz.

Debra Conway, Shane O'mara, Jack Howard, Tim Rogers, Rebecca Barnard and a host of others were all there for the opening.

Soo "Memo" - it is a great old room and will be fantastic for live music. They need to sort out two things - the sound was a bit muddy but this was the first ever gig they have put on - sound at the caravan club is absolutely pristine so I am sure they will work out. Next thing - it was roasting in the hall and it wasnt that hot outside so I hope something can be done about that. It is such a wonderful old hall and perfect for music so I am looking forward to seeing lots of music there - starting with the Sports !

That sounds like a great evening NB! Did all of those people you list perform?

The heat never really worries me too much... I went to a place here called the Petersham Bowlo (bowling club) a while back to see the Mighty Reapers (former Dynamic Hepnotics) and the air conditioning broke down. It was packed to the rafters and the bar was doing a roaring trade due to the fact the temperature inside was probably topping 40c easily.

Really looking forward to seeing the Sports.

a few of them did - Rebecca Barnard opened the night - and then there were guests singing with The Jazz Party.

The club was donated a grand piano as part of sponsorship - $110K worth - yikes !

A big weekend for festivals out in the east. Warrandyte Festival, Rock Berry Jam up at Wandin & I spent a bit of time at The Basin Music Festival. Saw heaps of different acts & different genres. A highlight was seeing Nick Charles & Pete Fidler playing together. Jaw droppingly good. There's starting to be a few vids of them on YT so here's a couple :

If it's classic rock that you're looking for then this online station out of New York is quite good ... Q104.3 (New York)

I believe they do an 'all things Beatles' hour on Sundays from 10pm (our time) ... that includes each individual as solo artists (or such like)

Ok, I know somewhere earlier in this thread I mentioned that I would post a clip of a song myself and a friend (who is based in the UK) created via long distance file exchanges. Well, after much [censored] around with bits of footage and trying to do stuff between his busy work schedule in teh British fillum industry, nothing happened... nada, zip, zilch, not a thing, bugger all...

So, being a man of my word, a person with absolutely no pride and a sado-masochist who is prepared to deliver himself the ultimate humiliation while inflicting pain on anyone prepared to click on the below link, I now bite the bullet and give you, Don't Blame Me... a song penned by myself (Tim Fleming) and the guitarist come archery expert and trainer to the stars (Steve Ralphs) in 1979 and re-visited 35 years later to be recorded in two, yes count 'em, two countries literally a world apart (UK v Australia)...

One important piece of advice... only listen with headphones on and the volume cranked right up to maximise the pain... err, I mean, experience. Oh yes, you may want to close your eyes as well.

Hey Tim Hardtack. Great to meet & watch the GC win! Still in semi-euphoric shock we won a 1st rounder actually!

This must be the tune you told me about.

I took the advice to "only listen with headphones on and the volume cranked right up to maximise the pain... err, I mean, experience."

Hahah, you're too hard on yourself. I liked it, great stuff! Your vocal intonation's fine and everything. All very enjoyable.

Thanks for pointing out there are music threads on DL too. Coincidentally(?) the music posters also seem among my favorite footy posters to read [Redleg, Macca, Nutbean, yourself..]!?

Anyhow, hope to catch another game with you. You're very welcome to phone/PM/email any time. Cheers, Rob

Rob... I'm down in Melbourne on Friday 8th May and heading along to see The Sports reunion performance on the Saturday night in St Kilda (which unfortunately clashes with the game against the Swans). Will head back on the Sunday, but am free to catch up on either Friday night or Saturday during the day. I'm staying in Sth Yarra.

Glad you liked the song by the way.

It's the main character from David Lynch's film Eraserhead... possibly one of the strangest and most disturbing movie ever made.

Hey Tim. Good, I'll still be here, hope to see you then. Are The Sports friends of yours? Having left Oz in '74, unfortunately I missed decades of local music. Watched the 2007 GF in LA with Aussie friends and some Richmond players; Richo, Collins & another. Collins mentioned the Sports a lot & said his uncle, father or someone was in them.

Yes Rob, Steve Cummings (vocalist) and I went to Swinburne together in 1972 and I know Andrew Pendlebury through various other people and parties around Melbourne in the late 70's (not to mention that Andrew's father was the head of the art school at Swinnie when I was there doing Graphic Design).

I'll give you a call when I get down there.

HERB ALPERT - BEYOND (Completo) [HD & HQ]

Help Macca. Give up I only have an IPad. I tried to upload a Herb Alpert YouTube of his later work in the 80's called Beyond. I was trawling through some music and stumbled on Herb and remembered I had a couple of tapes from the 80s of his later work. I really liked him back then and revisiting it now, I still like it.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
