where has the idea come from that gawn is going to be a topline ruck? i dont get it. i dont see it either. Yes , hes 208cm. but what else? he looks extremely unco to me. perhaps he will come good, but please tell me all this hope isnt soley based on his height???

The games Gawn has played he's looked strong and capable. It's very early in his career, but I think he has the makings of a pretty special player.

I'd say forward with only incidental rucking for the next few years. We'll see how things shake up once Jamar retires.

Even then, I maintain high hopes for Gawn, but obviously having multiple future options is ideal.

When Clark came in I pictured a future career where, for the next few years he 'covered' the strong tall forward role while we waited on young forwards to develop the required strength, and then move into a more rucking roll once Jamar retired and our other uck options were still very young.

It's a nice thought that all of Clark, Dawes, and Pederson have at least done stop-gap rucking duties in their career, and more. It seems like the perfect solution for the bench situation where a second 'pure ruck' isn't considered viable.

So, short version - forward, but a useful reserve ruck option along with others, especially in a few years.

I think, like Any player, he's best used where he's most needed.

This season gone, our rucks where better served than our Key forwards, so he was needed deep forward.

Probably the same next year as well, unless the key talls we recruit, really lead the way.

Eventually, I can see Clarke paying equally in the ruck & forward. The versatility is a bonus.

This is exactly it, Gawn in the few games he played looked great, and it is extremely rare to get a ruckman who looked as good as him at such a young age. Can't wait to see the big fella out on the park.

To address the OP, can't believe people would want Clark in the ruck after his performances up forward this year.

Still, there are probably people who'd like to see him in the ruck. Just making my opinion known rpfc, no harm done is there?

Just telling you this is a bumped thread.

I agree 100 percent with these posters, though a little off the thread topic. Gawnius Maximus looked far more composed in those few early games than any young ruck man I have ever seen. He has become a bit of a forgotten man, but if as we all (or most) hope he comes back fully fit he could be just about anything at all!

Sounds like an ancient Roman general. I am actually so excited to see Gawn playing in the seniors again, just hope he fully recovers from his latest knee reco.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
