Hmm. Good point. I would imagine that a ultra-professional player like Scully would actually relish being at the club 8 till 4, which may in part explain his apparent 'closeness' to Bailey. He might be be turned off by a more 'casual' approach.

However, I also sure that the change would have been implemented by the club primarily to give they players some time to come to terms with Baileys sacking (and probably because Viney wouldn't have had an intensive program ready to roll out even if he wanted to). So I don't think we should read too much into it.

Not reading anything at all, this would be an on going situation with every list each year...people are different in so many ways..to get maximum output on game day is a scientific feat!!!

It was not said last night at any time by anybody that the MFC was not without its problems but it was indicated clearly by more than one person that those problems will be dealt with and that they are not insurmountable. Nobody at the club is shirking away from the issues and if the promise to deal with them is honoured we will end up a much stronger club.

Garry Lyon summed up the strength of the club by pointing to how Ron Barassi showed that he cared for his former teammates Noel McMahon as they came down the stairs into the Myer Mural Hall. He wanted to be sure these elder legends of the club could safely execute the set of stairs into the hall at the beginning of the function. Eleven club legends were introduced to the attendees.

Meanwhile, a twelfth legend lay in hospital after undergoing a life determining operation.

I wake up and read some of things that are posted on this forum and I have to wonder whether some people who would describe themselves as supporters of the club really care?

Beautifully put WJ. This is the time we need to hang together, not carry on with petty quibbles. If for no other reason, BUT, for Jimmy. Slainte.

Just to add to the mollycoddling by the coach theory , Brian Royal attended a Bairnsdale fc premiership reunioun a couple of monthes ago and said that we had a great list but that they were being treated far too softly. " Theyre too soft on em" were his words which i thought interesting as i would have thought he was a big part of the they. Can only assume he meant Bailey.

Ive said for a long while now...its seemed to be far too cosey down at Deeland. This might actually have been the case. This can be addressed. You dont need to turn it into Colditz, just get things a bit more real !

What's also interesting about that comment by Royal (if true) is that he saw fit to use 'they' instead of 'we' when referring to the coaching of the playing list.

A small example, but an example nonetheless of fractured team unity.

We need a whole lot more 'we' and a lot less 'they' references at Melbourne.

A new strong-armed coaching style will hopefully bring about this.

What experience did Schwab have?? None. He has worked infooty al his life and done a few business courses.

Sort of answers your question doesn't. He turned Freo around off the field during his tenure. He may not be great but there are many things Neitz is at MFC. Being CEO aint one of them.

Well for what its worth i guarentee its true mate. And the they/ we part is what i thought was strange at the time. It was well before the wheels fell off for us . I thought at the time ...well what the hell is your job down there ??

Surely the use of "they" is appropriate, since he seems to think the other coaches (they) are too soft on the kids, but he's not..?

"We" would indicate that he is also too soft on the players.

Choco Royal and others cant shirk blame . As for being too cosy at Demon FC .What do you want at a dinner? 100 push ups between courses?

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
