List management could be made a lot easier for us this year if the players get their way. I believe they want the rookie list abolished and senior lists expanded, to include the rookie spots, in their next EBA. If this gets up we might be able to include Newton and McNamara in our delistings.

If it stays how it is some tough decisions might need to be made. If I had to delist 3 out of contract players I'd choose Warnock, Wonna and Maric, but there's options before it comes to that.

First I'd offer Bate, Warnock and Dunn for trade. Don't think you'd get much but I'd take anything. Wouldn't care if we had to put a little towards Bate and Dunn's pay for a year as they'd be on bugger all anyway and we're a long way from cap trouble.

If that didn't work I'd offer Bate and maybe Dunn the Newton deal. I think Bate would jump at the chance to get to another club via the draft and if noone bites we rookie him at his contracted rate.

I think Warnock and Wonna are gone at years end. If we can get one of Bate or Dunn off the senior list Maric might be spared, if we get them both off he's safe. The other thing that could save Maric is GWS getting it's grubby mits on one of our players or an offer from another club for 1 of our players, Port for Spencer for example.

Don't delist/trade too many, you've got to have another 3 to delist next year...

As silly as it sounds it's true. With the rigorous turnover of our list in the last 3 years we have so many players now who we have to put in the wait and see basket - we don't want to cut anyone prematurely. Out list of known quantities who are "obvious" delist material at yr end is dwindling by the year - tougher decisions from here on in.

We have a very good senior ruckman in Jamar, have developed a great athletic second ruckman in Martin and we have a young beanpole in Gawn who will be at maturity when the senior bloke is finished.

The ruck stocks are exactly what they should be. We do not have a surplus. Crazy to consider trading any of these three.

I second your point. I also think another backstop in Spencer is required. However I question whether Campbell is required as another back stop.He maybe better kept as our Ruck coach and give an opening to another young player..

I have currently really scrutinised our list and the 3 major requirements we need to back up are:

Another Tall forward,Tall backman, Small backman and a crumber.

Although we recruited Cook,Davis & McDonald last year,we still need back up in these areas IMO..And in particular if Morton,Maric&Warnock are traded.

I'm up for the challenge ... are you?

Bate. I will offer you a 6th round pick for him? You pay his salary.

If that didn't work I'd offer Bate and maybe Dunn the Newton deal. I think Bate would jump at the chance to get to another club via the draft and if noone bites we rookie him at his contracted rate.

Ok ... I like this scenario.

You'd have to have rocks in your head to want to trade Martin, he is the perfect 2nd ruckman.

Same with Gawn or Jamar, as one is our best 1st ruck now, and the other our 1st ruck of the future.

Spencer would be the go.

I'm just worried how much we'd get for him coming off a knee reco.

I agree.

Ok.

We need three deletions at least with Evans and Nicholson pushing for spots.

I'd be surprised if we upgraded Evans.

There's always a few who miss the point of the post. No-one's suggesting going out looking for a trade. But if you're a serious list manager you consider market value of players throughout their entire careers. We were "crazy" to trade Johnstone too

No we weren't; I thought it was a good move to trade TJ.

I'd also be surprised to see Evans upgraded just yet.

He has shown solid yet unspectacular form, but I'm not sure if he is anything more than just a "good ordinary footballer."

I'd give him time to prove otherwise, however.

And I can't remember anyone thinking we were crazy to trade TJ.

Personally, I was overjoyed by the deal we got, even with paying a large % of his contract.

We shoulda traded Johnson earlier IMO .

His only good years were contract years .

Bate. I will offer you a 6th round pick for him? You pay his salary.

I don't think we'd have to pay his whole salary, I think the other club would have to pick up at least the minimum wage and yes I'd gladly pick up the difference. I want 4 delistings to allow Nicho to be upgraded and would prefer to keep Maric, not an easy task.

I also think we could do better than a 6th round pick. Maybe a straight swap of our 3rd round pick for GWS's, an upgrade of maybe 6 spots. But Yes I'd even take you're offer.
