Dermie's Offer

Featured Replies

No Thanks Derm,

I'm sick of certain great players who have decided to become armchair expert sprouting off about whats required to improve the Demons. Gary and Dermie, if you're so f#%king smart re coaching then coach., put yourself is a position where you self inflatory/congratulatory opinions are actually put to the test

I just don't understand our forward set up at all.

Well there isn't one..... not really!!!

If he is soooo good as a forward coach why isnt a club legend and team of the century member Dermie hanging around Hawthorn?? Hmmmmmm. There must be a reason.

Maybe it's just that there isn't a whole lot wrong with their forward structure......

If we had Franklin, Roughead & Rioli I doubt there would be much need for any forward coach.

By that logic Garry Lyon, Gary Ablett, Billy Brownless, Sam Newman, Mark Ricciuto, and every other retired great who is not coaching or directly involved with a club is flawed. What a load of poo.

Well done. I did go on to give reason behind my comment in a latter post.

FWIW, I dont see any of the persons you mentioned put their hand up on radio to coach. And to be fair Lyon is doing enough down the Club so many posters tell me. And I certainly wouldnt have any of the Geelong trio. Riccuito was a great player but have no idea of how revered he is around the Club or what his attitude is to coaching.

Well that's the first sign of hubris. B)

Its funny when Buddy and Roughy were in development years that Brereton was not a forward coach there. Like I said HFC worked out that some times great ex players dont make great coaches.

I'm not saying Brereton would make a good coach, but to say that he wouldn't based upon his fallout from Hawthorn and some of the comments he makes on SEN is a bit rich IMO. FWIW I quite like his commentary.

I also didn't say any of those players I mentioned would be good coaches. All I'm saying is that you don't have to be 'revered' by the club, or even connected to any club, to be a coach.

Maybe not enough room for his and Dunstall's head in the same room? Plenty of power egos around the hawks.

You have come on and made cheap and puerile "piece of poo" comment at my statement on Brereton.

A great player who has been 16 years out of the game and in the one mentoring/coaching role he had at the Hawks he was ushered out at time when the team needed development. I did not use the SEN as criteria but used as an indicative to suggest that his time out of the serious of the game is good for radio but not for football clubs. He has built a successful media career and that is where his specialities lay.

And Mono there might be some weight in that thought.....

Absolutely and without question would love to see him come in and shake things up. For whatever reason our forwards are not demonstrating enough application of how the modern game should be played, and frankly need a solid kick up the arse.

You've been on here long enough to be able to cop some criticism, as well as the occasional poster who doesn't read the entire thread.

I'll admit I didn't read you qualification, which would have made me post something different, but I still don't necessarily subscribe to the view that because of the way he was 'ushered' out of Hawthorn that he wouldn't make a good coach. That doesn't mean I think, based on his radio commentary, that he automatically would make a good coach, but what I'm saying is sometimes things don't work out at one club, but might change at another.

Maybe you could have said the same about Terry Jenner.

Maybe not enough room for his and Dunstall's head in the same room? Plenty of power egos around the hawks.

Oh well, Dermies probably Autocratic, and you know, you can't have too many autocrats at the one Desk.

No thanks

There are many just out of the game players who would have an equal or better understanding of forward structure as Dermie

The problem with Brereton is he is a non conformist and no way fits into a team enviroment

Brereton would be good at teaching on a one on one basis not a group IMO

Carey likewise

Maybe you could have said the same about Terry Jenner.

Dont see the comparison at all between Dermie and Jenner.

Jenner for all his foibles has always been involved post playing days in developing spinners. He only came to prominence in the public eye when he assisted Warne.

Well one can only assume that those in the corridors of power at the MFC heard this, and by hell they better listen. As someone peviously said, love him or loathe him, he played with a toughness that we've rarely ever seen at our great club. It would be an amazing opportunity for our club to instill some aggression, and some really good forward structure. And from what I've read here, it almost sounds like Dermie is begging. As an aside, does anyone know who Dermie supported growing up??
