Troy Davis was the player. I spoke to him at training and had a good laugh about it. He could't understand what all the fuss was about. No tears, just a big smile on his face. He seemed to be enjoying the attention.

Just brilliant. It won't be long before someone links Davis' ongoing thyroid problem with Moloney's spit. Such is the nature of comments in this thread.

I thought I read a training report that suggested Moloney punched Davis in the thyroid; just sayin'.

He actually kicked Davis in the face and told him to make sure Scully signs with GWS.

Cook heard it and started crying.

I'm 98% certain the report was for Lucas Cook and that he was "almost in tears."

I remember, because I particularly thought it ridiculous at the time.

Firstly, it's a big judgement to make, that he's "almost in tears" and that the catalyst was Moloney having some harsh words.

Whoever wrote the report doesnt know that, and has no idea what else could be going on in the kid's life, even if he was close to tears (which is taking a fair bit of license).

Secondly, how often do you think this might happen to young draftees, a long way from home, on their own, in a new tough environment?

How often could what has been reported happen, yet no one notices, or even if they do, they have the understanding & the decency to not report it..?

Darling has shown a bit so far.

He was always going to be ready from day one.

We chose a longer term prospect with a bigger upside.

I'm happy with the decision.

About sums this up.

I liked the look of Darling and wanted him but others around here seemed too concerned about his character. But the club went with Cook and surely what they saw is enough for all of us to back these decisions. For 2 years at the very very least and more possibly 3 even 4 years.

The only question I'd ask at this stage of BP and the recruiting group is, do they pick home grown as a priority?

Ie - if Darling and Cook were both from Victoria, would we have taken Darling?

If Nic Nat and Watts were both from Vic, would we have taken Nic?

So many pro's and con's for both sets of players. Hopefully we don't have the lads that take the longest to fill their potential.

I doubt it.

Made no difference with Morton, Bennell, Jetta, Evans, Lawrence, all from WA.

Made no difference with McNamara, Tapscott, Trengove, all from SA.

And didn't make a difference in choosing Jurrah or Aussie, where the distance is more than just geographical.

Darling had character issues, injury issues, size issues and although a very impressive 2009, had a subpar 2010.

Place of origin would have been one of the last concerns.

You can say the same for heaps of players drafted...

I reckon Charlie Dixon (yes he's older) looked scarier.

Agree, Dixon looks the goods.

Btw, check your UF Dappa.

Already did... It doesn't go through until next round I think,

Yeah, it says it will be included for Round 4.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
