We got our tall forward. Very happy that we found a KPF we thought was as good or better than the smalls available at pick 12.

Welcome to Melbourne Lucas.

We got a tall, not sure how good though.

very good

LUCAS COOK

n his own words

What type of player are you?

A mobile tall forward with the versatility to go back or play on a wing.

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble and why?

Brent Staker. Someone who is versatile but can play up forward or back depending on the team's needs and structure.

What are your strengths as a footballer?

I can read the play well and can play a variety of positions. Also marking and kicking at goals.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?

I need to improve my strength so that I can have more influence in a marking contest.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?

Western Bulldogs. My dad has barracked for them ever since his older brother played for them. I followed him.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?

My parents and brother have always supported me and come to games. They had the belief that I can do whatever I wanted to do, and football is no exception. They also sent me to boarding school to improve my football.

Lucas Cook is a 194cm and 82kg AFL- AIS Graduate, who is an extremely agile key forward prospect with a strong lead and the ability to take contested pack marks. He additionally is a good reader of the ball when it is in the air, has a strong overhead mark and is also very good when the ball on the ground.

In Vic Country’s first game in the Under 18 Championships Cook kicked 5 goals (including 3 in three minutes) and also took 5 contested marks and collected 20 disposals. In early July, Cook was a part of Vic Country’s first national Under 18 championship win in seven years and impressed AFL recruiters so much he was named in the Under 18 All-Australian Team.

In 2008 and 2009 Cook played for the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup and played in 20 matches and kicked a total of 19 goals.

Cook is currently into his third season with North Ballarat and after 7 matches has scored 18.5 (an average of 3 goals per game) from 29 marks.

Thanks for that. I've been scrambling to find info on the guy. Sounds useful.

Atley or Lynch!

Or a random Gysberts-like smokey.

Jeez Lynch going at 11 hurt I reckon.

Melbourne pick up Jeremy Howe.

Big sigh from BBBP before calling out Howe's name. Is he bored of not getting enough first round action?

God knows I am! B)

Another full-forward, from Tassie. Like the way BP thinks.

WTF?

Howe at 33?

First reaction is that this is a stuff up.

Hope im wrong.

Howe exciting!!!

2 big forwards! Let's hope our KP forward drafting goes better than the last time (Bate, Dunn, Newton)

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
