Demons midfield draft dilemma

Ryan Lester should be one of the kids getting a look in, and he could be suited for us. easy 190 cm very clean, fast and skillful

Cameron Bruce's defection will no doubt have some small impact on the debate as well.

I doubt it will have any impact.

Since the Club was only giving Bruce a one year deal they would have been prepared for him to only stick around one more year. Going one year early would have had very little to no impact.

A draft pick is for 10 years, and planning would have had Bruce around for, at best, the next couple of years, when you wouldn't expect the draftee to necessarily have much impact anyway.

Probably, and that's why I used the word "small". It could come into play with one of the latter picks or rookie selections when needs might come under consideration.

"Gysberts showed in the TAC Cup final he could lead out of the goalsquare because he is 190cm," he said. "We've got some options there."

wow didnt pick it.

Best available all the way for mine. Personally I think we are in just as much need for some good run and carry off half back than a power forward so just take the best you can get and worry about needs later. The benefit of Gold Coast having so many picks is I cannot see them just loading up on the same type they will take a mix of sorts(Watson may go early) or a punt on a more risky option (Darling). This is what most of the phantoms will miss is that they are just listing the best picks in order without considering that GC have limited young or traded KPP. This is even considering the 17 year olds taken last year.

Best available. And by the look of it, the cream of the crop this year are primarily midfielders. I don't think you can have too many elite midfielders, just look at Geelong 2007-2009. They are probably the most versatile position, if you can hold your own in the mid then more than likely you are good enough to contribute up forward or in defense.

still always Best Available. Players are becoming more versatile now, and even with a glut, you can trade players for what you need at a later date.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
