I'm in.. Might have to set to auto select, not sure if my knowledge leauge wide is good enough!

JV7, just choose peeps from your own team :)

Haha julio and Ryan would be the only 2 worthwhile!

Sweet JV7. Ok I'll send round emails, and tentatively schedule the draft for tomorrow evening 8pmish? Will also keep checking the thread to make sure if anyone else is into it. We have 5+ now, so that makes it majority us in the draft... Which also means likely the playoffs will be all us.

  • Author

Hmmm. We have a small problem. They don't run drafts during our evening hours. We can choose between 11am through to the following 1am American time. In other words... So we can choose anywhere between 1am Melbourne time, through to 3pm Melbourne time. I'll set it for 3pm Melbourne time, on Thursday afternoon for now. If anyone has any objections, or wants a different time, let me know.

Alrighty. Emails sent to Gorgoroth, Macca, JV7 so far. Plus me and one more.

If anyone else wants in, PM me... We only need 3 more teams now, so if any of you guys have another name, let me know.

I leave home at 5:30am and get back home at 6pm, I won't be able to log into anything in between while at work.

Just a shout out to you blokes about the tipping comp ... no need to reply

Also, if you're reading this ... DemonDave, daisycutter, old dee, Strafford, bananas, Arrow, Norm Smith's Curse, Beelzebub et al ... feel free to join in if you like

Here are the rules again (posted on the previous page) ...

Rules of the 'Demonland' NFL tipping competition ... (the same as last year except a couple more bonus weeks have been added)

* All participants get 3 picks only in any given week (but .. they must all be 'road' teams)

* Anyone who correctly tips all 3 winners from their 3 picks receives 1 point (any number of people can win a point in any given week)

* Bonus points are up for grabs in weeks 2, 5, 8, 10, 13 & 15 (2 points to all winners) whilst week 17 carries 3 points to any given winner.

* No margins or correct scores are required - just the straight winners.

* If you miss a week or come into the comp later on, there is no penalty. You just simply miss the chance to win points for that week or weeks. You can join in the comp at any time.

* Your tips must be in before the start of Monday's games (AEST) ... or before the Friday game if you include that game. All 3 tips must be included in your post (editing your tips is strictly forbidden :))

* The person (or persons) with the most points at the end of the regular season wins.

For those out there who just read this thread, feel free to join in the comp. It's just a bit of fun and we could do with a few more people on the thread anyway.

Last year's notable point scorers (regular season) ...

8 - Dappa Dan

7 - Georgiou R. R. Martin

4 - Gorgoroth

3 - JV7, Go the Biff, Macca

  • The season kicks on Friday (our time) - Pittsburgh @ New England.

I'll get in early before I forget... Packers, Panthers, Seahawks. Good to be back!

Pumped that the season is finally here. The vikings seem to be on the cusp of playoffs according to a few experts. I don't think so yet. Our O line is pretty bad and we have lost one linesman for the year already. I'd say 8-8 this year for us. I'll have a look at the divisions and have a crack.

Ok I'll go.

Ok so for Fantasy we have Gorgoroth, JV7, Macca, myself and a mate called Deztroyers so far. Anyone else wanting to jump in we still have a few spots left and would love to have people from here instead of randoms.

Some advice for you guys doing autopick, I autopicked in another comp... ended up with this: Rogers, Cobb, V Jackson, Petersen, Sanders, Ellington, Witten. That's a sensational team in anyone's language, so don't be afraid that autopick will screw you. 90% of the time it's smarter than any coach.

- Keeping it nice and simple with 1 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 2 Flex, 1 DEF and 1 K.

- For those confused, flex can be filled with any RB, TE or WR. DEF is team defense. You get points for that team's sacks, turnovers, pick 6es, tackles for loss, and for keeping the opposition to low yardage. You also can lose points if that team D gives up lots of points and yards. I've seen team DEF get -15 points... and in games where Watts goes off, they get +25, so they're worth taking seriously.

- With fantasy, it's not so much about picking stars.... your first 6 picks will get you stars no matter what you do, as long as you don't pick some random. It's about picking the players who play against the worst defenses. So if you think Panthers or Washington or whoever have a porous defense, and you have a guy on your bench you think might go ok, pick him. 4/5 times it'll be the right thing to do. There's only a small handful of players you pick regardless. Guys like Petersen, Leveon Bell, Rogers etc.... The team selection screen is really simple and gives you lots of info on who you should select and why. And if you click the players name, all relevant background including injuries is put in a little blurb, so you don't have to feel as though you need to do research.

- Pay attention to byes when it comes to Team defenses, Tight Ends and QBs. You should never have more than two of each on your list, just make sure each guy doesn't have the same bye week as his counterpart.

- The old standard rule is that RBs are more important than anyone. You would think it's QBs since they score highly, but with injury, and with teams who use RBs in committee.... a good RB who gets most of his teams carries is worth his weight in gold. They get 1 point for every 10 yards plus 6 each TD.... whereas QBs get 1 point every 25 yards and 4 for TDs. If your first 5 rounds are RB, RB, QB, WR, RB you've done well. As the season wears on you'll be glad for that 3rd serious RB.

- With QBs, you can take Rogers and Luck in the first few rounds.... then Manning and Wilson a couple rounds later, but otherwise it actually helps to wait til much later. Guys like Bradford and Romo who project to be massive often don't go til the last few rounds. If you go early on a big name, you might be sad to see quality RBs and WRs go.

- TEs are tricky. After Gronk and Graham, there's really no guarantees, so always hold onto two. Or just take your team's guy and sit back and enjoy.

- If you want advice, feel free to ask me or Deztroyers. I'm a couple of years in, and he's a few years in.

I'm in, but I'll have to be auto pick.

Can you guys rig it so I get Gurley :)

Ha ha

Wouldn't mind Bradford for sentimental reasons either.

Should be fun, I'm aiming for third!

Just had another look, if you guys would rather do a live draft we can leave it til after week 1? Maybe some time on the weekend when you're not working? Just means we miss out on week one stats and can see who's playing where.

The season has come round real quick... Already planned in my annual sick day for the Falcons game. Good on Hayne for making the 53-man roster, although the Australian media and bandwagon supporters are already getting to me

used to watch NFL & NBA back in the 80's, re Montana, Riggins, etc ; & Magic, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bird, Malone, Barkley, Olajuwon, McHale.. dropped off somewhere, maybe 7 days work week?

I'm interested in the Heyne train.

OK I'll be in the tipping comp again, to be honest havent been keeping as close an eye as in the past due to the Niners decline last year, but Hayne-mania has reignited my awareness..

I must be the only bloke in Australia who wants to see the niners get whooped.

I reckon you might be CFB.

Any interest in drafting a squad tomorrow afternoon to compete against us in Fantasy?

Just a reminder to those who've joined, 3pm tomorrow it all kicks off. If you're near a computer I recommend looking in. If not, autopick will go alright for you.

I must be the only bloke in Australia who wants to see the niners get whooped.

Oh no, I too want to see that happen, especially when we play them. Being divisional rivals does that to you tho.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
