And we have a winner in the tipping competition!

Congratulations to Clintosaurus  who wins the competition with a record score of 15 points - well done and well played.

Thanks for running this again Macca. The beauty of this comp is that it seems so simple - yeah pick 3 away winners - but it's not quite that easy to pick up points. I think 2 or 3 times this season I lost points in games decided in OT so the comp certainly keeps you interested. And I think I got my tips in every round so that's a PB for me !

Congrats Clintosaurus - too good & a great score

Bring on the playoffs

Arians retires, caldwell sacked, Raiders confident of getting Gruden but waiting due to rooney rule.

@Macca Packers GM thompson gone? Thoughts?

Not surprised ... there have been murmurings for quite some time about his position.

You've often got to make changes in order to improve.

Think since the coach is untouchable at the min this guy copped it?

I don't believe they'll make a move on McCarthy anytime soon.

It will be interesting to see what they decide to do with Hundley and whether they decide to pay for a decent back-up QB.  Thompson was all-in on drafting and seemingly had no interest in free agents.  I reckon that will change.

The GB roster has a number of holes to fill ... that was highlighted with the loss of Rodgers.  McCarthy is safe as long as a healthy (or unhealthy) Rodgers is on the roster.

Saquon Barkley is off to the draft - Browns would be crazy not to take him at #1. Mock I just looked at has them taking Baker Mayfield at #4. They would be set for years with those picks. Browns also have #33, #35 and Philly's second to draft based on need. Think their secondary would be a focus then.

I reckon the NFC is wide-open.  Any of the teams can progress to the SB if they get hot ... home field throughout for the Eagles keeps them right in it too.

In the AFC the Pats & Steelers obviously stand out but neither team is as good as they've been in the recent past.

How many times have people said that about the poor old Browns.

Seen that for AFL with north being the last position

Yeah the meme is everywhere. Cross breeding in all the sports is rife. Every time you see a funny Tweet in the NFL it's a matter of hours til the equivalent AFL ripoff is seen.

Still pretty funny though.

OK going nice and early. Winners left of page Macca.

KC 27 - Tennessee 20

LA Rams 37 - Atlanta 30

Buffalo 13 - Jacksonville 27

New Orleans 37 - Carolina 17

Yeah it's hard to go past the 4 home teams to win but there's nearly always at least 1 upset in both of the first 2 weeks of the playoffs.

Atlanta are probably the best road team this week but the Rams will be primed and ready.  Maybe Carolina if they can produce their best?

The framed odds reflect that too - KC $1.25,  Rams $1.30,  Jags $1.25 & Saints $1.33.  All 4 teams are either -6.5 or -7.5 to win at the line.

Having said all that I'm picking all of the home teams!

Titans 16 @  KC 27

Falcons 19 @ Rams 22

Bills 13 @ Jags 27

Panthers 29 @ Saints 32

Chiefs 21 Titans 13

Rams 24 Falcons 21

Jags 23 Bills 13 #notajinx

Panthers 31 Saints 28

The panthers most likely to snatch an unlikely one. Almost went for them.

So who does everyone think should get MVP?

Brady as usual? Gurley a late charge? Wentz a sentimental vote?

I had antonio Brown down as mine prior to injury, then Wentz.

Brady will win it, but I dont think he deserves it this year. I hope Gurley gets it ?

I reckon Gurley wins in a bit of an upset ... he's been outstanding however and finished off the season well.  2 strings to his bow has to be acknowledged.

Brady has been very good again and is odds on favourite but he's had better years.

I had Brady a touch ahead of Wentz when he got hurt. But I reckon you're right now. Gurley to surprise.

Given that it's an award for the regular season only it would have been interesting to see how Wentz would have fared if he missed the first 3 games of the year and then played the rest of the season unimpaired (the reverse of what actually happened)

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
