Just watched the latest 30 for 30 doco .... 'This Was the XFL' and it was very good.  The league ultimately only lasted 1 year but a number of the innovations used in that 1 season are being used by the NFL today.

Overall the show highlighted an intriguing snap-shot of how the Americans go about things ... the doco is being repeated on ESPN on Sunday night (8.30pm) and is well worth a look.

Here's the trailer ...

Falcons 34 - Patriots 31

Matt Ryan MVP (Freeman a smokey)

My heart says Atlanta but my head says the Patriots ... (plus, I want to win the post-season tipping comp)

New England 28  Atlanta 25

The Pats will need to be beaten which sounds obvious but they won't ordinarily make enough errors to lose.  In other words, the Falcons are going to have to play lights out in order to win.

But for your sake JV, I hope I'm wrong.

Good luck on Monday!

Post Season Tipping Comp Leaderboard

9 - JV7

7 - Gorgoroth,  Macca

6 - Clintosaurus

5 - DeeSpencer

Im with you Macca, gotta win the Comp. Pats 34 - Falcons 33 in overtime.

heart says Falcons 33, pats 24

Falcons 27 Pats 23. Vic Beasley for MVP.

Have been calm for 2 weeks but the nerves are starting to kick in... Hopefully get to sleep tonight. God knows what I'll be like if the Dees ever make the big one

Would Brady even be nervous right now?

Yep that sideline catch by Julio was pretty good. Atlanta looking really good.

Falcons go out to a 14 - 0 lead and playing very well in all facets.

Couple of holding penalties but Atlanta are settled and switched on

This is gonna be hard for the Pats to come back. Atlanta can just play the effective run game and hold onto the ball.

That's a bad error by Brady but a terrific interception by Alford all the same ... now 21 - 0

Falcons all over them

Can not believe this... Brady pick 6 for a 21-0 lead... This defense is on fire! Still nervous though

Holding the Pats to a field goal there was immense ... 21-3 is so much better than 21-7

As cfh said,  look to see Atlanta's running game in operation in the 2nd half

Just now, Gorgoroth said:

Edelman has dropped so many tonight, it's strange he usually is so good.

He should have watched been watching Lady Gaga at half time ... nice catch at the end of her performance

This is turning into a rout ... still nervous JV?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
