Steelers, Rams, Bengals.

Not sure what to think about the hype around Jacksonville heading into the season. Should be better than the last few but all this division winning talk is a bit much. Schedule is friendly though.

Picking the Rams... brave man.

Seeing we're on a new page I'll post up the games again ... a reminder that 7mate are covering tomorrow's game (10.30am) and then 3 games on Monday (Cinci @ Jets,  Giants @ Dallas and then SNF - Pats @ Arizona)

Hey Macca, I still don't have my trophy from last year... Or at least my name in gold...

ha ha.

Ok back for tips good luck to you all.

Green bay

Pittsburgh

Minnesota

Dunno why im tipping the vikes but its probably due to it being a hatd first round.

Caught most of the game today.. Siemian was pretty good. Denvers D put some big hits on Newton which was good to see. Carolinas time management was pretty poor in the last qrt, had to use one TO on the challenge but then burnt the other 2... Good win by Denver! Was a good contest to kick the season off..

I listened to the game on & off (tunein) and will watch a replay of the game after the footy.

Was that interception from Cam the game changer JV7? ... I know that Denver needed 11 plays to get it in from 23 yards.

Denver might be thereabouts again with that D and they're going to be hard to beat at home by the looks of it.  Their overall schedule isn't all that tough unless the Raiders & Chargers get amongst it.

Yeah the tipped ball and diving INT by Harris was huge, Broncos went down the field & scored the TD that put them infront.. But yeah Denver took their time to get that TD!! I'm not too sure Newton is all that comfortable being under physical pressure, few times today he looked a bit timid & his effort in the Superbowl on that loose ball still sticks out...

They obviously targeted Cam by the looks of it ... in this league, opposition teams will zero in on even a perceived weakness.

And yeah, that loose ball ... he'll be reminded about it.  Constantly.

Cracking game, loved it. Simian looked pretty bloody good for a rookie. Panthers D is good, other teams won't pressure him as much.

Panthers O line needed help, they were so worried about the Denver rush and with good reasons. Denver were lucky with some of their hits high on Newton that were not called.

The tip and catch by Harris was a great play - won them the game in the end.  The Broncos have learned a lot from that SB loss to Seattle a few years ago ... their D swarms all over the offense of other teams to great effect.

That last hit to Newton's head was vicious - but that's the sport (unless you're Tom Brady )

And Siemian looked ok ... early doors yet but his completion rate was decent.

Funny how all you supporters thought Siemian looked "ok" etc, me as a supporter of a club who hasn't had a QB in a long long time, I thought he looked great. lol.

As a Bears fan I thought he was great as well. Quick and accurate release. Might only be a game manager but that's all you need with Denver's defense and their running game looked very good.

It might be too late to organise, maybe sometime next week before the 2nd round of games? But I wonder if we could get either 5 or 10 people to do this NFL wins pool that Bill Simmons has done. Could make it worth a point in the tipping Macca? Or just do it for fun. What do you think?

Think we talked about this a few years ago ... so far there are 6 participants in the tipping comp but the wins pool might be worth having as another interest on the thread ... however, receiving a point in the comp for taking out the "wins pool" adds another element.  Others may not want a point being up for grabs going towards the comp but I'm happy to go either way.

Even so, if there's one or more in the comp that doesn't want to participate then it would have to be just a bit of fun between the rest of us.  The only issue is who goes first pick etc and then the configuration after the first round of picks ... anyway, I'm in if you can get enough starters.

Excited, nervous, anxious, pumped.... Can't wait for tomorrow! Won't sleep well tonight... Going to get up and watch the replay around 8.. 3am is too early to watch it live!

Oh cool, probably before my time in being an NFL fan, either way I think it's a fun topic. I don't like pumping huge hours in to fantasy sports each week, although I probably would in America given the NFL is mostly consigned to Sunday which is half the appeal.

Looking at Simmons + friends groupings probability says at least a couple if not a few of the teams in the 2nd and 3rd column of picks end up winning 8 or even 10 games and making play offs. And maybe someone in the first 10 teams falls off a cliff and finishes with 6 wins.

If I could make a suggestion although you may have already thought of it - just for expediency's sake ...

You could keep it at 3 picks each regardless ... otherwise people have to keep coming back 5 or 6 times apart from having to wait for their turn.  You'll probably only get 6 or so participants anyway if we use the comp as a guide.

We did something similar on the cricket thread and it took an age to finish (although it was a lot of fun) In the end we were quoting people to prompt them.

Vikes win with no score from the offense. All defensive and special teams points  today. Id say bradford is in next week. Jacksonville look a lot better and so does oakland its good to see that some teams have  hopefully turned the corner. Cleveland look to be typical cleveland and KC came back from 21 points down.

You wait 8 months to hopefully see improvements in your side... Looked the same old [censored] from my team. When you have the equal toughest schedule in the leauge you need to win games like Tampa at home... Feeling flat for this season already. Oakland looked impressive with their come from behind win. The lions & colts game looked like a shootout. New England just find a way even without Brady

Gutsy call by the Raiders - going for 2 at that moment ... they might have a decent season.

Dallas blow a chance to win with a field goal when their WR (Williams) doesn't even attempt to get out of bounds - players can lose track but that's still baffling.

There were close finishes everywhere and that could be the theme for the whole season ... big win to the Pats without Brady - same for the Giants,  Detroit,  Vikes & the Ravens with Flacco back & firing.  Miami should have won too.  The Packers won a game we could have just as easily lost.

Missed field goals a big factor again in a number of games.  We do it all again tomorrow with a double-header.

Yeah just realised how many close finishes there were... Huge call from Oakland to go for the 2 pt, 90% of the time sides would take the extra point & go into OT but when you think about it, what's easier getting the 2 & getting the lead with 40 seconds left or go for OT and hope you win a flip of the coin & get the ball or back your D to get a stop and then your offense scores... I'd think the 2 pt would be more likely...

Also, the 'point after' is not as sure a thing as it was previously with the longer yardage ... although at that stadium (New Orleans), the 1 point conversion is a bit of a mulligan.

I'm not sure we're going to see too many head coaches going for it in that situation but who knows?  It might become a trend ... imagine doing it in a Super Bowl and having an incompletion?  Now there's a 30 for 30 story in the making JV!

Fantastic burn from Del Rio.

I know they might've had some momentum but with Drew Brees at home I think the Raiders win < 50 % in overtime. If you lose the coin toss then it's probably < 40%.

By going for it you put the other team on the back foot and have a controlled situation. Given the Saints defensive weakness I think it was an inspired decision.

The detroit win sticks out for me. Luck got a whole lot of yards and TD's but their defense couldnt help them out. Thought chicago wouldve been a bit better or are houston with a new QB a tad underrated?

Yep as has been said missed FG's are a big factor aswell as the extra point. My boy blair walsh missed a few by a long way today. Gotta get him back indoors.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
