Box Hill Hawks v Casey Scorpions

Thanks KC good to hear trengove is going well. How are Bate, Jetta and Maric going?

All of the MFC boys are going nicely. You can feel they're lifting because they want to be part of the action (remember Lyndon Dunn had his breakout 8 goal game against Box Hill in the rain earlier this season and hasn't looked back). Neville Jetta is very creative around the ground and gave some beautiful passes to his forwards that quarter.

Goals Macreadie Maric Miller Trengove 2 Bate McGough Nicholls

KC updates are great thanks so much!

How's strauss going on the comeback from injury, and secondly is tapscott playing down back like he was named? how is he going?

Thanks

Rain and hail preceded by havey gusting winds.

The Scorpions are struggling much like Melbourne did after half time last night. Even the lights have been turned on!

Casey 11.5.71

Box Hill Hawks 8.9.57

Three Quarter Time:

Box Hill Hawks 1.5.11 6.8.44 9.10.64

Goals Macreadie Maric Miller Trengove 2 Bate McGough Nicholls

That quarter was a real shocker.

Any wind advantage heading into the last quarter?

Any wind advantage heading into the last quarter?

The wind was favouring the end the Hawks kicked to in the third quarter but with the rain it seems to have moderated. Box Hill have done all the early attacking at their end and have just kicked a goal after an errant handball was intercepted by a Box Hill player. It's dark here even with the lights which are just training lights.

Casey Scorpions 11.5.71

Box Hill Hawks 10.10.70

The stronger bodies Hawks are winning the hard ball at the stoppages and it's looking ominous for the Scorps.

71-83 and Casey almost gone.

Goal to Bate. 13 points down.

I GOAL IN A HALF SO FAR IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE

How did the MfC boys go any of them garantee there spot for next week?

Radio said Bate, Warnock Trengove and Tapscott were our best. And McReadie of the non- Melb Casey players.

Trengove in for sure.

Bate & Tapscott huge possibility to see both considering the poor performance of some MFC forwards.

Warnock BOG or near enough for the last 3-4 at Casey, credit to him and his banging away. No match up against Toiges and can't see him included.

Love to see Tappy get a game at the dees. That's 2-3 weeks in the ones where he's been among the best. Even if it's only for 70% game time, and he gets it a couple of times. Would be a confidence builder. And if it was round 22 it'd be a home game at the G.

Fantastic to see tapscott in the best again. Will surely get a gig before seasons out but who to replace? Presuming he slots onto a half forward flank??

I'll be a little late with my report on the Casey game this week so I'll bring you some advance details.

First, the Demons who played in the Casey Reserves

Sam Blease 9 kicks 10 handballs 2 marks 1 behind - still working on his fitness after a long lay off and continues to improve. Was very good when he got the football

Max Gawn 4 kicks 1 handball 0 marks - played only a half. Took on three big men in Grimley, Renton and Robbie Campbell (yes, the Hawk who supposedly retired) and handled himself very well in the ruck contests.

Rhys Healey 8 kicks 12 handballs 7 marks - good on comeback. Worked hard.

Stef Martin - selected but did not play. Has been troubled by a hip injury and I would suggest his absence again this week could possibly puts the rest of his 2010 campaign in doubt.

As far as the Casey seniors were concerned, it was a game of two halves. Box Hill matched them around the ground in the first half but the Scorpions had some classy finishers in Jack Trengove and Addam Maric and, as a consequence, were more efficient in front of goal. When the rains came, Box Hill took up the slack and won the hard ball in the difficult conditions. The result was devastating as Box Hill, right on top at the stoppages, kept pushing forward and the final result embarrased the visitors who managed only a single goal in the second half.

Ben MacReadie was tireless throughout and finished with 23 touches. Acting captain James Wall (19 disposals) and Matt Fieldsend (18) tried hard. Of the Demons it was a nice touch that two schoolmates from Adelaide were reunited. Jack Trengove made a fantastic start with 10 touches in the first quarter. He finished with 13 kicks, 8 handballs, 6 marks and 2 goals. His mate Tappy worked hard all day and managed 12 kicks 7 handballs and 6 marks. Jack will be back next week while Tappy might have to wait his time but is a definite chance for a game before the end of the year. Neville Jetta was tireless and creative with 19 disposals as was Matty Bate (18). Matty Warnock was the pick of the defenders (10 kicks, 6 handballs, 8 marks).

The story of the stats however, was there was a major drop off in numbers in the second half. When the weather changed, the Scorps went missing.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
