Never.

Even if Panos turned into a serviceable AFL player, the club are forging a culture of being true to their word and that is far more valuable.

Excellent point- and furthermore they were bound by the AFL to pick up both Newton & Meeson, if no others took them.

We'd better watch out. If we end up where we are now, Darling could become a very serious chance to join us.

Maybe MFC should have picked Panos over Meesen in the Rookie Draft.. A decision they may later regret, only time will tell.

Moot point I'm afraid, Meesen was a list clogger who was retained as a rookie through the new rule. The issue was whether to pay him out mid contract (V poor iMO) or rookie him and pick up another young fellow through the draft. Rookying Meesen and Newton cleared the way for Gawn and Fitzy

Here are some video highlights of all the All Australian selections.

I think the strength of this years KPP are stronger than what was on offer last year - which would vindicate BP & Co's decision to take Gysberts (although I think his first two games did that anyway!)

We shouldn't just focus on the Forwards on offer - both Watson & McCarthy look solid prospects aswell and Hurley has proven in recent times that while he was drafted as a fullback the option to be moved foward is a strong possability.

Personally, I like the look of May and while hes only 190 now - they are only 17/18 yrs old so plenty of time to get those extra 2-5cms to be that ideal size.

Agree with all you state- however I do think May & Darling will make it although they are only 190 cm tall.It will be interesting when & who pick them up.

I noticed that May is in fact 190ish tall. IMO he's too slow to play as a 3rd tall & not tall enough nor quick enough for a key spot forward.

Darling I haven't really seen that I recall.

I noticed Day the other match @ Princes Park, but didn't have the No's, records sold out.

After I saw the numbers on the net days later I realized which boy he was. He looked very good.

This is paramount!!

So too would the Gold Coast, and given they have zoned access to the NT he will no doubt be picked up under their zoning allowance (does that mean GC wouldn't even need to use a pick in the ND on him????)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
