BANNER FOR JIMMY

Hey All,

I'm a long time reader , first time poster on 'Land. I have however posted on 'ology for many years.

Last week there was post on Demonology about creating a banner that gives Jimmy a message about the inspiration he provides to the supporters of the MFC. The info below is what I have just posted on Demonology...................

Hado's suggestion about a banner for Jimmy (in the 'Prayers for Jimmy' topic), has led to discussions with other mad Demons supporters. We decided that a message of support to Jimmy, for all he has given us, was well and truely warranted.

So , I contacted the cheersquad. They have already made a few great plans.

I have also been able to get some unbelieveable support from a Melbourne based banner company. After explaining the general idea to them , they have come up with some fantastic ideas on how to make this work (Hado's banner would cost about 90k). They all happen to be mad keen Dees supporters as well.

They have done work for many sports organisations including Afl clubs. So as you can imagine, they are at the highest end of this industry.

I have contacted the club to see if they want to be a part of this, and a discussion is being held tonight. If the MFC get on board, it will probably be the final piece to make this fly.

It may require some level of fund raising, however , if everything goes the way it should, the end result would be a donation to MFC debt demolition and / or the Reach foundation.

Anyway , for now , would you all please have a think about your favourite 'Jimmy' moments and post them here.

The current proposal is number of banners, smaller than the Hado photo (but still quite large), showing a series of Jimmy special moments. It is planned for our home game against Essendon. It's our biggest home game coming up and Juniors 250th should be the week after.

I plan to keep the cheersquad up to date so that we have a coordinated effort.

Please PM me if you want to be involved in any way, or have other suggestions etc.

If people are interested in this , I will keep posting daily updates.

also i love the idea, and would love to help, i am gutted that i am in the goaldcoast until the end of the 4th so i cant really help out

but updates would be amazing

Ok. I'm still waiting for the MFC to say yes or no to the initial proposal.

Here is a little more of the plan :-

The banners will be made by a Melbourne business ' The Banner Lady'. Due to the significance of the banners and the fact that the company are all mad Dees supporters, they have thrown the whole company behind the idea.

Each banner will show a series of special moments from Jim's time with the MFC.

There will be several of them , and they will be substantial in size.

Trying to get it together for the home game against Essendon.

After their unveiling, the current plan is to send them back to The Banner Lady. They will be be cut into sections (each moment), and represented into a collectors item.

From here the plan is to sell them at auction or a special dinner. The proceeds will go to MFC Debt Demolition and maybe to the Reach Foundation.

If someone here has regular contact with Schwabby , would they please let him know about this proposal.

He is a Demonland member, you can look him up and PM him if no-one has a more direct contact. Good luck.

Cards - there has been alot of talks etc over the last 3 days . Getting the right balance of what is appropriate along with $$ etc has changed the scope and the final plan. Hopefully Monday I will be able to announce the final plan. Essendon game is still the plan. Even though it has changed from the original idea, I hope everyone can get involved and make it a day that shows Jim what an inspiration he is to all of us.

Any news the real?

Cards - still waiting. Another meeting held today. A few parties need to be on-board to make it work. Tomorrow is the final day for all to agree, or it falls over. Basically, the alternative is probably unable to happen in the shorter time frame.

Hoping for good news.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
