Left footers kick better

"There is a direct parallel between kicking efficiency and winning premierships," Pelchen said. "If it came down to (drafting) players of comparable ability we'd take the player who kicked left foot."

I think one of the sub editors at the newspaper got his dates miced up, this should have been in tomorrows paper.......

Just for fun, how many left footers do we have?

About as many left handers.

Perhaps this is part of the problem with our kicking, if the player is going to kick right footed, I have noticed a lot of our players raise their left hand to identify themselves as a target, and vice versa....I am sure with a bit of training we can fix this.....we could raise both hands.....I think we practiced this in the first quarter on Saturday

Given we only had 6 players who had more than 10 kicks on the weekend I'd suggest we just want players who can kick!

The fact the Davey and Green can't/won't kick right foot has peed me off for years. For example,in last years Queen's B'day game,Pies players took Davey's left foot space and instead of getting on to his right,he moved right, turned right, turned right, turned right again and kicked on his left, this happened twice on half back and once on the wing and for a senior player not to kick both sides in todays game is appalling.

It's a pleasure to watch Scully kick both sides of his body (not elite yet,but it will come) because he will need to in the next 15 years.Imagine a tennis player who couldn't hit backhand but had a great forehand, you are behind the 8 ball and opponents soon find out your weakness.

Or maybe players who can get the pill.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
