Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Everyone is screaming that we don't have a forward line and Newton should come back in immediately.

Has everyone forgotten his inability to kick goals/play afl? Plus he is on the rookie list.

I suggest [pCount]=&search_app_filters[forums][pViews]=&search_sort_by=relevance&search_sort_order=asc&content_title_only=1&search_term=newton&search_filter_app[forums]=1&st=50"]Reading through a few of these threads and remember how quick everyone has been to write him off in the past.

There are no quick answers to our current situation. Watts will develop, and we will probably go for forwards in the next draft. The reality is other than Butcher and Watts there has been a severe lack of forwards where our draft picks have been.

Our time will come. Patience is a virtue my friends.

I'm not overly worried. We all knew coming into this season that our forwards were crap. The hurt comes from seeing Jurrah sidelined and Watts still on limited work/not playing. The two guys were hoping to see something from are both sitting the matches out and in their place we have Miller (who to be fair didn't miss a shot at goal yesterday) and Spencer starting in the forward 50. Add to that that Petterd had the yips and you get a great deal of supporter angst.

However, whether the gameplan works or not, by the second half of the season we'll be seeing a much improved look to our forwards. We'll have Jurrah back, Morton as well (assuming that he plays a few games up forward here and there) and hopefully Watts will have worked his way into the season by then.

For now, just accept that we have no functioning forwards and have a good laugh. Think of how fondly you will remember this time in a few years, telling jokes about how inept we once were...

i was calling for his inclusion for most of last season given the way our forward line was functioning...

he's more dangerous than Miller closer to goal, and his inclusion would allow Miller to play in the position where he's played his best football, Centre Half Forward, an area of the ground we were really breaking down, because we had no target...

even if he kicks 2 goals 5 each week, he's going to straighten us up, give our forward line some structure...

I think you answered the question in the thread title. Has had his chances and didnt take them. Seriously, if he really REALLY wanted it, he would have grabbed the opportunity. We have had next to zero forward options for a couple of years, and someone with hunger would have snaffled the chance by now.

There's gotta be a reason why he's still on the list (albeit as a Rookie). Obviously, the Football Dept sees something there. I, for one, would love to see the kid finally get it all together and make a positive impact in our team.

Still dreaming...

Yes we have a huge forward line problem but make no mistake

We lost the game and got absolutely smashed between the 50m arcs which put huge pressure on our backline.

I have big question marks on Moloney,Jones & Bruce and Grimes,Scully and Trenners will overtake them very quickly.

Week in week out Junior & Greeny perform but they do it on their own.

Jeez i hope Green is captain rd. 1 next year.

Newton definitaly need to come back in. At least we will have a target up there.

Bring Maric back in and they can crum off him. I couldn't care if he kicks 1-7 as long as there a shots on goal.

I agree Jack7, Green should be captain next year... Should have been 2 years ago.

That's just not true about Newton...

Everyone right now is SCREAMING about our lack of forwards. Sylvia is a gun but only plays as a bit-part KP forward. Miller showed what he is good for on the weekend, and that's NOT goal-kicking.

Newton is a spud. Sure. but I HATE coming on here and going through posts that mention something of this kind...

"Miller: It's a wonder he's still on the list. Why wasn't he delisted 2 years ago?"

It's this kind of idiotic, thoughtless rant that drives me nuts.

The answer is simple. There was NO-ONE better. There aren't any good KP forwards that can take a hit in the league that are available, and that can stick around more than 1 or 2 years. Hall and Bradshaw would have been LOVELY but would have soaked up game time, and would have moved on in 12-24 months.

Miller is not up to it, fine, whatever... half the medium age/seniors in the side aren't either. But delisting him and leaving it up to kids leaves you with what we have. And injured Jurrah who was triple teamed in a pre-season!

I have questions about the delisting of Robbo. But I CAN understand the thinking. He's not the future any more than Hall or Bradshaw were. He could kick some goals, but would have provided the wrong message to the kids, that lairising isn't the way forward for MFC. I don't agree... but then so what? I would be MORE worried about the club if they listened to me when it comes to the direction the list is taking, or some of the nuff nuffs on here for that matter.

Just saying "Brad Miller isn't up to it" is not enough for people here. We KNOW Newton and Miller are likely rubbish, and have been given more chances than they deserve. but we CAN'T go into a season with 19 year old KP forwards. It'll do mroe harm than good.

And for the record, Miller is NO favourite of Dean Bailey's. If he had a better option, he'd have dropped him... and in 2008 he did.

Newton will play games. Jurrah's injury, and our lack of targets will sort that out. And at his age now, and his size... coupled with the fact that he knows he's gone at the end of 2010... or as soon as we can draft and train up 3 better options than him... means that he might just straighten us up.

No-one's expecting a 6 goal game... But he's scored goals in the past and has provided a marking target inside fifty that can cause a spillage. And THAT'S what we've been missing the most. Someone who can bring it to ground, stay mobile, and give the crumbers a chance to come into the game... thereby forcing the opposition coach to think defensively instead of giving the likes of Ellis, Birchall and co the chance to run around with it at will.

Agreed, but how long can you keep our list together if we cant win games

we are not wining with what we have...Jurrah was never going to be the answer, I say try something different...Warnock as a forward Bruce as a permanant forward and then play a few kids around him...When Watts is back he will take at least 20-30 games to show waht he has.

JUST DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result..............

The only way that Newton was going to get games this year was if we were down on forwards, which we are now. Lets see how a man who is on his last chance goes. Also bring in Marric as a running forward like Medhurst

Sorry to say that Newton has shown very little ability to hold down any position at senior AFL level. Newton's 6th law of motion is "when the football comes in my direction, even with no opponent in sight, I will drop it and accidentally knock it out of bounds".

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
