Failure to remonstrate

Featured Replies

On many occasions yesterday we were bullied by Hawthorn players but one incident stood out and that was when Grimes was flattened off the ball and no-one - REPEAT: NO-ONE - came in to remonstrate with the Hawthorn defenders who put him down.

Getting towelled up is one thing but not flying the flag for a team mate hit behind play was an absolute disgrace.

What kind of message does it send to the youngsters that our so-called leaders don't have the stomach for a fight?

Harden the !?*$ up Demons!

Unfortunately Hodge, Brown, Lewis, Guerra and Osborne don't play for us.

I think this raises a good point and displays a lack of leadership.

Brad Green and James Mcdonald lead by example and courage in general play, but we have no real hard men who look like they want to kill you and eat you.

Moloney has tried to be that man but was low on confidence.

The other thing I would like to see is young blokes lifting thier heads when they make a mistake. When James Strauss &^&*ed up in the goal square he dropped him head in shame and no-one went over to him, he was treated like a leper. Young blokes are gonna &*)* up, they have to learn to keep thier heads up and not lose confidence. We are dropping our bundle early and the young blokes don't have the self belief to recover. The stop running and demanding the footy, they start to take on a lsoing mentality.

The senior blokes on the ground need to be geeing them up to keep it together.

Everyone in our defensive 50 went to Strauss after he messed that up...

correct

Ok my bad then, I saw him hanging his head and then I think I did the same. Must have missed it.

We did still seem like a dis-spirited lot out there.

The problem for this club lies squarely at the feet of the senior players, Bar Green they were inept yesterday and the incident with Grimes left me utterly disappointed. That Hawks player should of found himself flat on his arse.

Over the next few weeks if they don't improve I'd just drop Bruce, Dunn, Miller, Bate and MacDonald and bring in Gysberts, Maric, Jetta, Watts and Blease. They are the future, let's run with them.

F Maric Green Petterd

HF Garland Watts Sylvia

C Jetta Jones Davey

HB Rivers Frawley Bennell

B McDonald Warnock Strauss

R Jamar Scully Grimes

I Moloney, Gysberts, Blease, Martin

With Morton and Jurrah to come back in

The future needs to start now. If our senior players can't help us win then why play them. I reckon this team would give it's all and would at least get them playing together sooner rather than later.

i tend to agree with this in the next few weeks-our senior players are retarding the team more than anything- i hate saying that but it just might be the truth.

certainly worth serious consideration

Scully and Trengove must cringe when one of our 'leaders' try to give them advice.

I pray that they only listen to McDonald and Green.

I'm so over the names Dunn, Bruce, Miller and never wanted MacDonald. Spencer needs 2's time as does Bate. Moloney needs to lift as well. Hard decisions ahead

We don't protect our players be it after one gets flattened when we certainly should or be it doing the 1 %ers, the hard stuff that wins you matches. We don't protect the ball carrier, you can count on one hand the number of sheppards or even a good body position to give someone space to run into.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
