Incorrect, A club needs to raid more than 1 draft to field a complete team. If they get a dud group such as 03 then they'll be average. if they get 08 they'll be great but it'll still take until 2016 - 2018. By then Melbourne will have won 3 premierships in a row and will give GC the mother of all hidings to win number 4. As for GWS Sheedy will make the mother of allmistakes with this team and set it's development back 10 years. I for one will enjoy watching this,

You know that it'll be more then that with the poached players and extra salary cap. Once they get going they'll have 50 players on their list. They'll be trading 2 or 3 players for 1 player or a late first round pick. They also have one and a half drafts to choice from, not to mention that they got a few decent players in rookie draft last year. Not to mention the next Warlpiri Warrior Liam Patrick, much to my chagrin.

Sheedy was coach of Essendon for 27 years and only ever stuffed it up once after winning 4 premierships. There was obvious reason for his mistakes too. With Fletcher, Hird, Lloyd and Lucas still on his list he was desperate to jag a flag asap and went after all the established players. He also over ruled our recruitment staff on draft decisions, hello Kepler Bradley! He is the perfect man for that job as he will build a lot of publicity and with all those leg ups will build a very good side. He feels like he has a lot to prove and that is the time for the rest of us to beware.

I just read all that and it made me think...what is an Essendon supporter doing on a MelbourneFC forum? Go brag about your not-so-good players elsewhere while we climb the ladder and become premiers later this decade.

I'm all for supporters of other clubs hanging out on these forums. Just as long as they give interesting and insightful comments. This guy gets a pass on both counts.

If you don't like it maybe you should be the one who leaves.

Exactly.

Thanks Chook and Titan. I have to admit to having an interest in Melbourne due to Jurrah. Just like I will have an eye on Liam Patrick at the GC next year. I always hope that Essendon beats both teams but I also hope those boys go well. Essendon and Melbourne have a bit in common too. Both are trying to work their way up the ladder after a period of substandard performance. Both have young gems that opposition don't know about and it can get up our noses how obvious talent goes unnoticed.

I think we'll start to be a good side after this year. You guys maybe one or two more years. I think we will be rivals again soon and these dark winters will be behind us!!!!

Fish please do not compare the Melbourne dark winters with that of Essendon, you have no idea what the last 46 years have been like ok!!!

Fair suck of the sauce bottle mate. Essendon have had such a rough ride over the years. (Apart from 99 which you really did stuff up-I was in thailand will never forget that day-Laughed my head off, all these Bomber supporters went quiet for a change!)

Your post are ok, but we do not cry the same tears. We know Dark winters better than most, which is why when i hear people say MFC supporters are weak i get really Peeved off.

50 something players on the list is only for the first year then it reduces significantly each year until, I think, their 3rd year when their list holds the same number of players as other teams.

They DON'T have one and a half drafts to choose from as GWS has acces to 17 year olds this year just like GC17 did last year. Those same players are of the age where they'd be in the coming draft at that age anyway.

And let's be honest - their rookie draft wasn't that spectacular.

As for Sheedy, he is a great spruiker, but a lot of the developments in the game recently re: sports science and advanced zones, interchanges, certain tactics, I feel will have gone past him. He'd be too reliant on his assistants for mine.

I agree with you regards some of the developments in the game have gone past him. It is a bit sad as first Barassi then Sheedy were the men who revolutionised the game into what it is today. It is sad to see it go past them. But even though the game had gone past Barrassi he did some good things for Sydney and got them on the map up there. All Sheedy has to do is not get in the way of his recruitment staff, like he unfortunately did at Essendon in 01-04, and get a very good bunch of assistants. He will just be like a coach of coaches very quickly.

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers braved the rain and headed down to Gosch's paddock to bring you their observations from the second day of Preseason training for the 1st to 4th Year players. DITCHA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I attended some of the training today. Richo spoke to me and said not to believe what is in the media, as we will good this year. The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
