Watched him in the final of the Tac cup and got Best of Ground (if anyone taped it put together some footage please). There was a certain passage of play where he side stepped a player 3 times then delivered the ball inside 50. I thought he looked fantastic. By no means just an inside midfielder but is quick and evasive. Co-captain of Dandenong Stingrays. Just putting another name out there, you can never have enough ball winners.

I think he will go inside the top 15.

Ryan Bastinac (Dandenong Stingrays, VIC)

Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 22/06/91

Recruited from: Rowville

Midfielder with terrific contested ball winning ability. Vision, awareness and clean hands in traffic a feature. Clean foot skills off both sides other impressive assets. Vic Country U18 representative in 2009.

STRENGTHS:

A beautiful user of the ball

Has clean skills off both feet

A good long handballer also, abtly off the left also.

Good decison maker.

Line breaker when in full flight.

Strong worker and will run all day.

A strong marker for his size.

Goalkicker.

Smart player around the stoppages.

Has already played some senior football at the ripe old age of 15.

So you're saying he doesn't use the first option??

Agrre with most of your sentiments but plese note Jake Melsham was awarded BOG.Ryan is an outstanding young footballer- however lacks a little class in my opinion.I'd rate him as 2nd or 3rd round pick.

If Bastinac or Melksham slide to pick 34 I hoped we would grab one of them .... outside chance but possible.

There is no way either will be available at pick 34.

Would only consider taking him with pick 34 if he were still available, but doubt he will be. We need to consider tall timber with picks 11 & 18, especially if we go with 2 mids with 1&2

Alrighty, I know this is a complete laugh, but thought i might as well share.

Was at my mates house today, and his dad was telling me how he was talking to a friend of his whos a south-eastern region recruiter for Collingwood, and he said something about Scully, and this the recruiter said he was good, but won't go number one, and that this guy bastinac was a good pick for number 1 as he had freakish skill.

Course I cacked myself laughing, so i got a bet on with my mates mum that Bastinac doesn't make top 10.

Pick 18 - Ryan Bastinac (Melb)

I couldn't think of anything more perfect (excluding Zooey deschanel) then Scully, Trengove and Bastinac in one draft.

250 games all the way.

You mean 750 games... right?

Looks like a good prospect, good hands and nice long kick, he seems very strong in the hips and can therefore withstand tackles. Based on his beep test and 3km time trials he can run all day. He and scully are in good mates in the Stingrays and i believe have been reported to push each other in all activities and Bastinac is usually second only to Scully.

Would love to pick him up with 18, although he may already have been taken.

The problem with Ryan is wed probably like to take a tall at 11 and he probably wont be around at 18...( though ive got him down somewhere ( other thread) if Vardy was gone . Probably amongst the better 5-6 mids this draft... be a bit cheeky getting 3 of them !!

I'd be happy if we picked him with pick 18.

Although we need tall players, if Talia and Butcher are both gone by 11, he could even be a chance, but I think he's more likely to drop to 18.

I would be happy with that too. Originally in your opening post you thought he would go top 15. Would you want him at 11 ?

HT...the problem I see is that after gaining two top mids...we will probably need another type at 11...even if Bastinac was there and tempting.

The recruiting staff will be analysing each team's needs.

I'd say most of the top sides want midfielders, so taking Bastinac at 11 might not be the worst decision, as it may free up some KP players at 18.

Yerp.

I still think he will go top 15, thats why I would love to pinch him at 18.

DITCHA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I attended some of the training today. Richo spoke to me and said not to believe what is in the media, as we will good this year. Jefferson and Kentfield looked big and strong.  Petty was doing all the training. Adams looked like he was in rehab.  KE
