Jack Viney

Featured Replies

Incorrect. Viney decided to move back to Adelaide for Family reasons and his position at the AFC is subsequent to that decision.

I believe that he wanted his kids in Adelaide for their final school years.

The point that I was making is that Jack is well versed in the goings on in Victoria, and will not have any issue with relocating here, once the current stage of his schooling is complete.

1 - It's called the English language. You should learn it some time.

2 - He broke his hand on the other guys face, hence the injury-prone line.

3 - Grow a sense of humour you muppet. Of course the kid's a gun.

Humour wasn't evident in your original post buddy, as for the English language comment, this is a footy message board and you seemed to understand what I wrote perfectly well, unlike having to decipher your attempt at humour... I've read plenty of muppet posts from you lately, such as your uneducated comments on jetta in the other draft thread. So you can stick your points where the sun don't shine

Given that his family is based in Adelaide, and that Melbourne is a resource poor club, is there a chance he won't apply for FS?

If I understand the situation correctly, and assuming Jack will be a high draft pick 2012, won't his real choice be between

(a) Melbourne under the FS provisions; or (B) GC under their preferential draft provisions? Being drafted by a SA club would only be a faint possibility. Correct me if I'm misreading the situation.

GWS, not GC

GWS, not GC

Of course. Thanks E25.

I would of thought the Father-Son rule at melb would take precedence over any draft pick concessions or SA.

I would of thought the Father-Son rule at melb would take precedence over any draft pick concessions or SA.

Not if he doesn't want to go to Melb a la Marc Murphy not wanting to go to Brisbane

Why would he not want to go Melbourne when his old man will be coaching them by then? Unless he wants to live in Bankstown and get shot at everyday.

Chasing tail should be his priority atm.

Probably is.

Let's hope he falls under the spell of a young minx we can convince to move to Melb...

Is it a serious question or are you just trying to make a point?

Both. I'm concerned that people get all excited by the F/S thing, and the fact his Dad was a great demon player. But what if he couldn't make it in the AFL? I wonder if his Dad would be a star in the modern game. If he remains small, and if he's a bit slow, then he's going to want to be an amazing kick and tough if he's going to be WORTH the pick. The whole F/S thing is all well and good, but our last one was Chris Johnson FFS. It can go horribly wrong. If it turns out he's just another mid-twenties player, we may be able to take him with our second round pick, which with GWS, would mean something even later. In that case, it's a bargain...

Unlike others, I'm hugely concerned about the drafts in the GC/GWS years coming up. Drafting well in your bottoming out years is just the beginning. We're going to need to get everything we can in 2010-13... It may make the difference between a flag and a prelim.

Considering he has no physical handicaps, yes he can physically do all those things..... Or did u mean 'can he do these things well?' LOL

I haven't seen him first hand but from all reports, can play and would in the top percentile of his age bracket in the country, but a few years is a long time in footy so by the time he's eligible who knows, he may keep breaking his hand and never get on the park! Ha!

I meant can he do them well, of course... And yes, there's a long way to go.

I think it may depend on what his Dad does a bit. Also, Lyon with his new job may run into him in the next few years. It seems to me that Adelaide kids really are very proud of their state.

Chasing tail should be his priority atm.

When does that ever stop being a priority? :)

As far as I can see, we have his height (yes, I know he's just a kid), home state, and his fathers job to think about, along with his F/S choice (a la Marc Murphy) and whether or not it would be a 1st round, or 3rd round pick we'd be giving up.

It's all good fun, but a lot of water to go under the bridge before I can get excited. I've been burnt before... :D

You're a pretty negative or 'naturally concerned' type of bloke. I've been tracking young Viney since he was about 11. You can go to the Ashburton Football Club and see his continuous Best & Fairest wins on their honour board. His ex coaches have said how good he is for years. Will he become a good AFL player ? Who knows, but he's better skilled than his Father and tough. Lord knows, it's about time we had a decent F/S.

He's 172cms, but not yet 15 and a half. My guess is he'll end up around the 182-184cm mark which is fine.

Anyway, I'll assume that he's going to be a gun until it's proven otherwise, and you can have your inbuilt, naturally cautious, and slightly concerned alternative view.

I hope so. Flower's son was suppose to be a gun but he was also a midget and that's why we never went after him.

Jack Viney and Chris Johnson isn't a good comparison. CJ was a good junior but he never dominated at his level liek how Jack Viney has been doing, CJ was more of an underdeveloped type how showed promise. Granted anything can happen between now and when young Viney turns 18, but geez, it's difficult not to get at least a little excited by his performances

Who will be his assistant then, Lyon?

Dan, the player you've described there is a dead ringer for Sydney's Dan Hannebery. He's played six or seven senior games as a Year 12 student for a club that trains and prepares 1000km from where he lives.

If Jack Viney is anything like Dan Hannebery, I reckon our football department couldn't spit his name out fast enough.

Make no mistake Jack Viney can really play

At school umpires had to penalise him for fair tackles - because he hit so hard!. He's as tough as any schoolboy footballer I've ever seen - although he's not particularly big. He's also got great endurance

He is a powerful left foot kick - not a classic action but effective.

Actually it was boring watching him play. He'd just take the ball out of the middle - kick it to the goalsquare - run down - regather the ball and put it through.Back to the middle - same again

Before he moved to Adelaide, he was quite conmforatble with the thought he'd go to Melbourne under the father son rule.

Main thing is that he keeps growing

I believe young Viney is a very good rower. Lets not get ahead of ourselves nor push him away via the meat market stuff.

You know that we had a young ruck/forward years ago down @ melbourne who played a couple of our practice matches.

He left to go on to row for Australia. His name was James Tomkins.

And he was also no good at footy.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
