The point that I was making is that Jack is well versed in the goings on in Victoria, and will not have any issue with relocating here, once the current stage of his schooling is complete.

(a) Melbourne under the FS provisions; or (B) GC under their preferential draft provisions? Being drafted by a SA club would only be a faint possibility. Correct me if I'm misreading the situation.

I would of thought the Father-Son rule at melb would take precedence over any draft pick concessions or SA.

Both. I'm concerned that people get all excited by the F/S thing, and the fact his Dad was a great demon player. But what if he couldn't make it in the AFL? I wonder if his Dad would be a star in the modern game. If he remains small, and if he's a bit slow, then he's going to want to be an amazing kick and tough if he's going to be WORTH the pick. The whole F/S thing is all well and good, but our last one was Chris Johnson FFS. It can go horribly wrong. If it turns out he's just another mid-twenties player, we may be able to take him with our second round pick, which with GWS, would mean something even later. In that case, it's a bargain...

Unlike others, I'm hugely concerned about the drafts in the GC/GWS years coming up. Drafting well in your bottoming out years is just the beginning. We're going to need to get everything we can in 2010-13... It may make the difference between a flag and a prelim.

I haven't seen him first hand but from all reports, can play and would in the top percentile of his age bracket in the country, but a few years is a long time in footy so by the time he's eligible who knows, he may keep breaking his hand and never get on the park! Ha!

I think it may depend on what his Dad does a bit. Also, Lyon with his new job may run into him in the next few years. It seems to me that Adelaide kids really are very proud of their state.

As far as I can see, we have his height (yes, I know he's just a kid), home state, and his fathers job to think about, along with his F/S choice (a la Marc Murphy) and whether or not it would be a 1st round, or 3rd round pick we'd be giving up.

You're a pretty negative or 'naturally concerned' type of bloke. I've been tracking young Viney since he was about 11. You can go to the Ashburton Football Club and see his continuous Best & Fairest wins on their honour board. His ex coaches have said how good he is for years. Will he become a good AFL player ? Who knows, but he's better skilled than his Father and tough. Lord knows, it's about time we had a decent F/S.

I hope so. Flower's son was suppose to be a gun but he was also a midget and that's why we never went after him.

CJ was a good junior but he never dominated at his level liek how Jack Viney has been doing, CJ was more of an underdeveloped type how showed promise. Granted anything can happen between now and when young Viney turns 18, but geez, it's difficult not to get at least a little excited by his performances

Dan, the player you've described there is a dead ringer for Sydney's Dan Hannebery. He's played six or seven senior games as a Year 12 student for a club that trains and prepares 1000km from where he lives.

If Jack Viney is anything like Dan Hannebery, I reckon our football department couldn't spit his name out fast enough.

At school umpires had to penalise him for fair tackles - because he hit so hard!. He's as tough as any schoolboy footballer I've ever seen - although he's not particularly big. He's also got great endurance

He is a powerful left foot kick - not a classic action but effective.

Actually it was boring watching him play. He'd just take the ball out of the middle - kick it to the goalsquare - run down - regather the ball and put it through.Back to the middle - same again

You know that we had a young ruck/forward years ago down @ melbourne who played a couple of our practice matches.
