Which genres and bands/artists are MFC supporters up with?

Some of my favourite artists are The Smiths, Bloc Party, Foals, Editors, Interpol, Starky, The Dirty Secrets, The Bravery, Joy Division, New Order, Depeche Mode, The Kooks, MSTRKRFT, Klaxons, Death From Above 1979, Metronomy, Modest Mouse, Billy Bragg, M83, Phoenix, Red Riders, Santogold/Santigold, CSS, Cut Copy, The Presets, The Killers, selected Franz Ferdinand, selected Kings of Leon (mostly earlier stuff), The Postal Service, The Strokes, The Whip, Van She Tech.

I love 80s pop (new wave-synth pop+post punk), most indie disco stuff, dance punk, indie rock, bits of pop, bits of house, bits of electro.

I love house, electro and club. And not the DOOF DOOF stuff thats mainly Techno crap. I do a bit of mixing/dj'ing in my spare time.

favourite bands / dj's: Ministry of Sound, Tommy Trash, Tocadisco, Spencer & Hill, Jamiroquai and also and a massive fan on Hilltop Hoods (aussie hip-hop).

Ah yeah, cool. My mate's becoming quite the DJ, still hasn't played a venue yet, but will soon. As will my band, we're a bit slow on the uptake. My mates are big on the hardcore electro scene at the moment, not a big fan myself.

Do you like MSTRKRFT's stuff? By the sounds of it, I reckon you would. Particularly, their first album. And Van She Tech maybe too? Their remix of Gravity's Rainbow by Klaxons is just the bomb. Old, but awesome.

THE BRONX, Hatebreed, Terror, System of a Down, Blood for Blood, Gallows, Downset,

Kanye West, Johnny Cash, Matisyahu, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Wu Tang Clan, TZU, The Herd, Butterfingers, Hilltop Hoods, Bliss n Eso, Cut Copy, GreensKeepers etc etc etc

To quote Cannonball Adderley - "Hipness isn't a state of mind, it's a fact of life"!

How about Miles, Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler, Art Ensemble of Chicago and all the other music groups formed from within the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.

(if you're not hip enough to know 'em - look 'em up and learn something)

I listen to pretty much anything, and it'll be impossible to list all the styles I love -let alone individual bands- in one post. Like, five minutes after I post this, I'll probably go "siht! why didnt I mention such and such". But I'll have a go.

My absolute favorite artists, who I am not at all joking when I say that I would rather have all four limbs removed with a rusty fork, with no anesthetic, than never be able to listen to them again, are Tom Waits (hence the display pic), Van Morrison, The Pogues and Tim Rogers (counting You Am I and all of his solo efforts and side projects).

I love 60s-era rock; massive fan of Creedence, The Doors, Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin etc etc. Really into blues, especially the stuff that came out of Chicago in the 50s (Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters etc), gypsy swing, jazz generally (particularly Dixieland rooted stuff).

Also a huge fan of Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and generally anyone who transcends musical boundaries, writes incredible if somewhat depressing ballads, smokes heaps of cigarettes and sings in a ballsy baritone voice.

Some of my favorite Australian musicians (other than Nick Cave and Tim Rogers) are Billy Thorpe, Johnny O'Keefe, Tex Perkins, Australian Crawl, Spectrum/Indelible Murtceps, INXS, Hunters, Cog, Frenzal, Divinyls, I could go on and on. I'm also a massive wrap for John Williamson and think he's an incredible song-writer.

The next gig I'm going to is Alice Cooper. Absolutely cant wait.

Gravity's Rainbow" The Klaxons (Van she Remix) is pretty good, the music video is really good.

MSTRKRFT have a few good songs, bounce and John legend andre 3000 remix are a few new good ones, oh and Justice Dance remix is a good oldy.

Listen to Pjanoo (Original Mix) By Pryda might not be your style but great club song.

Has anyone picked up the new Alexisonfire? It's 'officially' out tomorrow, but we started selling it at JB yesterday. If this doesn't debut close to number one, then something is seriously wrong. What a KILLER cd! Very different from their earlier work, but man.. these boys are freaking talented.

I have a very vast music taste. I guess my 'ideal' music is melodic hardcore.. pretty much Alexisonfire/Thrice.. and bands like Brand New, Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon AFI, Coheed and Camrbia, A Wilhelm Scream, A Day To Remember and so on.

I'm pretty big into metal as well.. Machine Head are an absolute favorite.

I like to get my 'electro' on a fair bit.. bands like Does It Offend You Yeah?, Pendulum, Royksop, MSTRKRFT, Junior Boys and a few others... then there's Miley Cyrus. Oh dear. I don't know why i like her!

Ah I have been too a couple of Bulldog Spirit shows at the Arty. Really good live. You a fan of Toe to Toe, another good aussie punk band.

Also try to find Nine on myspace. He is a rapper from NYC you might like if you like the Ghetto boys.

Yeah Toe to Toe are a great harcore band.

Yeah I love Bulldog Spirit, great band. The don't really play any more, but at a mates birthday the other week we got them to play (all mates of mine) and it was awesome to hear them again.

That's a fair list Condemned84. Anyone you don't like ;)

Can't stand Nick Cave. Never heard of Dead Kennedy's.

Going to Pink concert next month. Should I be excited? Because I'm not.

Plenty I don't like and Pink is right up there :)

Pretty much if it's on Fox fm or top 40 or played at a night club/ rave. I won't like it. :P

Dead Kennedy's were a early 80's punk band from USA. Not every ones cup of tea but a good band.

I'm amazed that nothing has been said about Michael Jackson, so let me just say this.

While he was embroiled in controversy in the later parts of his life, MJ was one of, if not the greatest musical talent this world has ever seen.

I was lucky enough to see him live in concert during the 90's, and grew up listening to him. His was the first CD I ever bought.

I hope that, particularly those who grew up post his big success in the 80's and 90's, remember him for the amazing entertainer that he was, and not for the mistakes that he may have made as a very fragile and damaged human being.

He was truly a living legend.

Michael Jackson........had all the dance moves. Songs & Clips such as Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean were ground breaking in the Music Industry, particularly the Video Clips. Sadly, I thought he started to go downhill after this from the 'Bad' album onwards.(Or was it Black & White album). The moon walk was something else.

We had the King of Rock in Elvis.

MJ was the King of Pop.

Ironically Lisa Marie Presley was close to both.

I work in a cd store, and was struggling to keep a straight face when people we're streaming in two weeks ago asking for Michael Jackson CDs, and when we told them that we sold out pretty early, some got abussive.

I don't even want to start about the hoards of 'fans' that decided to go out and buy his music after he died. It infuriates me.

Anyway, two rather big cd's were announced for September. AFI will be dropping their eight studio album, "Crash Love" on the 29th, and Brand New will be releasing their new one a week earlier. Does It Offend You, Yeah are playing their first headlining tour around then as well.. What a huge month.

Well i did not mention him cos I don't listen to his music and I gather that the others who posted here did not either jaded :)

It's like Johnny Cash, how many people started listening to him after the movie/ he died etc?

Doors the same after that movie came out.

Up coming gigs I am excited about

Gallows playing grand final night.... aaahhh going to ne one big big big day.

Terror playing 7th of oct at corner hotel.

The Bronx are playing there mariachi set shortly too. Love The Bronx, one of the best live shows you will see.

Terror are playing the corner!!!!!!

Sweet as!

Got the specials at the end of the month, original line up for the 30 year anniversary, getting the dancing shoes on!

Yes they are!! Raised Fist are coming out again too!!! THink Oct.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Hatebreed/Terror show at the HiFi bar a few years ago. Terror were awesome!!! Can not wait for these few gigs. I suggest you go see the Bronx too, the lead singer is one of the best front men you'll see. Just insanely into his craft.

Yea a mate just offered me two tixs to the Specials he can't use now, just the cost is a worry.

Seriuosly, they are worth it, Special Beat with Neville staples is amazing, the specials will be super awesome!!!

Just heard the Spermbirds are out in October so that will be awesome!

I was at the Terror/Hatebreed gig and left after Terror, not a fan of Hatebreed.

One of the best front men I have seen is Jeff from C0ckney Rejects who shadow boxes through the whole gig! Not bad for a bloke over 50

Monkey from the Adicts is also amazing to watch.

AC/DC ! kiss, the who, the beatles, fleetwood mac, pink floyd

I'll hopefully head to that Gallows gig..

And like I mentioned before, Does It Offend You, Yeah? announced a tour. Half of my workplace is going.. it's going to be a BIG night. I can't wait.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
