Greetings Demonlanders!

I'm new here so please be gentle  Been quietly reading and enjoying the views, opinions, news and updates on this site for a while now and decided to register because I wanted to do something to contribute to the club I've been barracking for since 2004. I was never a big footy fan because I didn't grow up with or understood the rules but for some reason I decided to watch a game on TV back in 2004. Round 2, Melbourne vs. Richmond. I can't recall the exact details, but I remember Neita kicking a bag of 9 and 1 more would have been a personal best for him. Free flowing footy, good to watch, everyone hitting their straps and I was pretty much hooked from then on.

So I have enjoyed the ride (not so much the last 2 years though) and would like to become a supporter. The only reason I haven't done so earlier is because I have never attended a game, and chances are I won't attend one this year. The only action I've seen is on the telly. Which leads me to seek the assistance of you fine people at Demonland. I'm looking to buy a membership for a family who in the past may have been members, but due to what's happening with the economy lately, have had to tighten their belts and an Mfc membership had to go. Anyway, I'm looking to spread some cheer to some die hard Mfc supporters by giving them a family membership. Do you know of anyone like this? And how would I go about buying a membership for them? I am hoping I can help out, otherwise the equivalent will be donated to Demon Heartland anyway.

My reasons for doing this:

- spread some cheer and in turn feel good about myself

- give it to someone who will actually get benefit from it by attending games

- help support the club I have barracked for since 2004

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Sorry I can't help you mate, but I applaud your sentiment. That's fantastic.

I would suggest contacting the club or one of the local support groups.

Here in WA the Western Dee's will buy a few memberships for people to use if they visit Melbourne to take in a game. Good starting point.

Cheers

Very fine sentiment.

The best thing would be to contact the club directly - as they ring around members who have not signed up from last year the club callers hear many reasons for people not rejoining - just had a baby, lost their job, starting a new business and no time to go, there's many reasons.

I'm sure they would hear of someone in tough times who would appreciate it so try the membership department.

What a great post. Welcome aboard deez_nutz. The MFC should take the initiative here (if not already) and set up 'pre-paid' options across all membership types such that a supplied code can be used by the recipient to activate and give their required info.

Thanks for your responses guys. I've just contacted the membership hotline and they advised me that the best way to go was to contribute to Demon Heartland, which I have gone and done. So here's hoping the seed of faithful Demon worship will be planted into the hearts of 70 little ones during the year and our club grows stronger for it. And here's hoping for a great 2009. Can't wait for the season proper.

Cheers.

I wonder if the demon hearts goes to the membership tally.... as we all know its all about the numbers

Nope it doesn't. They would be non-ticketed members which aren't counted.

my aunt buys our family memberships every year for christmas.

i suggest ringing the club.

also i think there are country memberships for yourself too - you dont get access to many games, but its cheaper and youre still a member

Posted
Future members though, and that's the point! Go dees

Yep that's it. We lose 5 members in the tally; which really is nothing in the scheme of things.

Great thing to put your money towards - 70 potential future members :)

Posted

I agree its a great thing and not too worried that they are not counted but they are ticketed member because 10 kids can go to the footy. Are jnr memberships included in the total

Posted

They're not ticketed members, they just get a ticket to go to the game organised through the club.

I am a Swans supporter, and despite not buying a Demons membership, if things go according to play, I will be going to 30 games this year, and 6 of them will be to Melbourne games. I'll be doing my bit to help Melbourne out. I have brought my AFL membership for the 2009 season, and I'm looking forward to going down every week. :)

I hope you enjoy the Red and Blue mate! Maybe it'll entice you to ditch the White :P

I'll never ditch my beloved Swans mate. I know what it's like to go through hard times. I'll try to help out any which way we can, since we share a legendary figure in Ron Barassi, who saved my club from exinction. God bless his soul. :)

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
