Watts tops another Number 1 list

Anyone putting money on watts is mad. I have a feeling he may be in contention for the 2010 rising star as we may not see all that much of him this year.

Grimes for me is the one to watch at MFC in 09 for the rising star.

Good call. I think Rich will put in a good showing, 2nd or 3rd in the rising star, bet few are better placed than Grimes.

Highly rated, skillful, hard worker, already spent a year observing & learning the system & will have put in a full AFL preseason, will be largely unknown & off other team's radars due to being out most of last year, a midfielder/HBF so has is in the right spot to earn lots of possessions (as stats do make a difference)...

he would be damn good odds too ... see ya later, i'm off to the TAB!

You said it, don't put too much on him, it might drop the odds and I haven't had a chance yet!

I am amazed Hartlett, Dangerfield, Myers and Vespremi do not figure higher in the odds. Dangerfield and Myers would be my early favourites with Hartlett heading the first year players. I would expect Grimes and Watts the most likely Demons to gain nominations this year. I think Watts will play early on this year off a flank/pocket if he performs well enough in the NAB cup/challenge games. I have copied below the odds for all players under 51.00

WATTS, Jack (MELB) 7.50

SIDEBOTTOM, Steele (COLL) 10.00

ZIEBELL, Jack (KANG) 10.00

BALLANTYNE, Hayden (FREO) 13.00

HURLEY, Michael (ESS) 13.00

SELWOOD, Scott (WCE) 13.00

RICH, Daniel (BRIS) 14.00

DAVIS, Phil (ADEL) 15.00

NAITANUI, Nicholas (WCE) 15.00

SUBAN, Nicholas (FREO) 15.00

HARTLETT, Hamish (PORT) 17.00

JOHNSTON, Lewis (SYD) 17.00

CONNORS, Daniel (RICH) 21.00

DANGERFIELD, Patrick (ADEL) 21.00

MASTEN, Chris (WCE) 21.00

VICKERY, Tyrone (RICH) 21.00

LYNCH, Tom (STK) 26.00

TRENGROVE, Jackson (PORT) 29.00

HILL, Stephen (FREO) 31.00

WARD, Callan (WBD) 31.00

YARRAN, Chris (CARL) 31.00

ZAHARAKIS, David (ESS) 31.00

GRIMES, Jack (MELB) 34.00

CORDY, Ayce (WBD) 41.00

MC KERNAN, Shaun, (ADEL) 41.00

STRAUSS, James (MELB) 41.00

SWIFT, Tom (WCE) 41.00

BEAMS, Dayne (COLL) 51.00

BLEASE, Sam (MELB) 51.00

BROADBENT, Matthew (PORT) 51.00

BROWN, Mitchell (WCE) 51.00

HENDERSON, Lachlan (BRIS) 51.00

HEYNE, Nicholas (STK) 51.00

MAGIN, Rhys (ESS) 51.00

MYERS, David (ESS) 51.00

SHUEY, Luke (WCE) 51.00

THORP, Mitchell (HAW) 51.00

VESZPREMI, Patrick (SYD) 51.00

Petterd is ineligable. I think Melbourne will get 3 nominations again next year: Watts, Grimes and Strauss

EDIT: Sorry i see you edited your post about Petterd and put in the odds. Veszpremi is at very good odds, impressed me last year.

Yes sorry M2W I put up post before I checked how many games Ricky has played.

I have just taken $50 and plonked $10 each on the below

Grimes @ $34

Rich @ $14

Masten @ $21

Dangerfield @ $21

Henderson @ $51

all bar Rich are 2nd year in system and highly rated but injury/circumstance kept hem out for most of 2008.

Rich or Hamish Hartlett

Unlucky. Looks like the dees got lucky about time

Instead of thinking like that I think its unfortunate we won’t get to see him play earlier. ;)

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
