Watts and Riewoldt - a bit of history repeating? from WWOS

Good find.

I particularly like this bit:

Jack has directed at Riewoldt with a look of ‘I want to be better than him’, written all over his face

And thank god for that. Nothing against Riewoldt, who is a fine player, but a little less crying and a little more premiership winning would certainly be nice :D

I'm pretty sure Grant Thomas' kids are friends with Jack, as they all go to school in Brighton (it's very incestuous down here  ).

got it. and at the same time, grant had reiwoldt over for a catch up

Riewoldt pretty much lives at the Thomas residency. That family is in love with him, and treat him like their long lost brother.

Lets hope they don't get their claws into our Jack next. We don't need him getting any ideas about moving to the Saints! :o

Jack picks up the kids’ footy and starts pumping left foot precision passes to his mate Will. I contemplate how many young guys would have the confidence to start with non-preferred kicks in front of a current superstar and former coach. Good sign - I like that.

Love it!

Hey Nugget,

Where did you get that logo as your avatar or did you make it? if you made it that looks sick mate!

I've never really liked Thomas, but this is a really good article and a completely different perspective. I delves more into Jack as an individual and how he will cope with the pressure that comes with being a no. 1 draft pick.

Hey Nugget,

hey mousey, i just merged the current logo (that used to be my avatar) with the demon logo that is used here on paint.

i like the idea of using the demon, whilst still keeping the identity of our jumper on the logo

-however, if we then start using the oldfashioned "MFC" intertwined symbol and also "1858" etc, it becomes too messy. (if anything, they should be on the actual jumper)

Good article by Thommo. Good to see Watts gets the thumbs up by Riewoldt according to Thommo. I'm sure that would have been an absolute monty, anyway.

ok, ive been having a think about this.

How would you feel if you were Jack Watts?

You head around to your mates house on a weekend, jump in the pool, play a bit of b'ball, kick a footy around a bit. you know all the sort of things that you do when you go to your mates.

A couple of days later, your mates dad has written all about in a news article, saying how you were trying to show off to Nick Riewoldt.

I would be pretty [censored] off.

i recon grant thomas would have asked him before the article was published

did it ever say he was "showing off"?

I think Jack would take it in his stride.

An article like this won't even be a blip on the radar once he is done, & i think he's smart enough to know that, whether he was annoyed or not.

But i doubt he would have been.

And like Nugget said, he probably asked first, as a matter of courtesy.

Don't get me wrong, I like the article. and your probably right, he probalby did ask for permision to write it.

As for saying he was showing off, Its not written in a bitter way at all.

Jack slowly puts on his runners, purposely ties the laces, strolls over and effortlessly flicks up a basketball off the back of his leg and into his expectant hands whilst looking straight ahead. Nick looks away - not allowing Jack to know he saw it - as if to say, ‘Let’s see how you go with the oval ball’.

Jack glances across to see if his trick was observed.

I'm sure J.Watts is mature enough..to not feel embarrassed or pi$$ed off. Maybe its water off a ducks back with him. He would understand - and would have been told - as no.1 pick in the ND, alot of exposure comes with the territory of being No.1 pick.

As a Saints supporter now taking more than a passing interest in the Demons this is a great article commenting on casual interplay between Riewoldt and Watts observed by Grant Thomas:

Misty eyed hyperbole! Mills and Boon - pure and simple. And a [censored] poor effort at that.

Seems Thomas is still looking for a career.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
