Last time?

Greetings spacefans.

I apologise for my lack of posts... I know you all love them so much. haha

I have a question. Last time the MFC had pick 1 in the national draft we picked Trapper, was Demonland up and running then? if so what was the hype like around our selection?

I am just keen to compare the hype, I don't remember our supporters being as excited about the pick when we picked first in the late 90's.

By last nights interview it looks like Jack Watts' name is going to be called by the Demons, I hope the kid has his head screwed on right and I hope he is ready for the pressure that will tag him for his career.

Responses would be appreciated.

He has his head screwed on right. His interviews and answers to questions have been first rate. Real leadership material. Unlike NikNat.

did anyone notice in the hun today it mentioned Watts played basketball for the state as a POINT GUARD ?? At his height i would've thought forward for sure. That is exceptional.

For those that don't understand the game, the position requires great vision, awareness and agility as you have the responsibility of distributing the ball to your teammates & controlling the tempo of the game.

Its the equivalent of a quarterback or what Luke Hodge does for Hawthorn in the backline.

*sigh* can't wait to see him directing traffic in our forward line in 3 years time...

Point guard eh? State level? As you say, exceptional.

Alongside the attributes you listed, it also requires a massive motor.

Having held my tongue until now, that seals it for me.

I know! Goddamn, i was already impressed, but i'm wetting my pants right now!

Might as well be drafting Scottie Pippen.. well, not quite

Yeh whatever, I made VicState and player alongside Scott Pendlebury and at one stage in the same team as Chris Egan (no.9 selected in 2004 draft by collingwood) and Egan was a much better and talented player than Pendlebury! so dont get your nickers in a knot when you here about Watts and his basketball abilities....it just isnt the same game

Don't think anyone is saying that because he can play basketball means he can play footy.

Most here have seen he can play - the ATHLETIC attributes it takes to be a basketballer are just an added bonus for a footy player

My mates son plays basketball with Jack and tells me he is a great kid with an excellent work ethic. A very good attribute for a kid with a bit of ability. Lets get him!

was Demonland around when we draftet at pick 1 last?

the idea of my thread was to compare the fan reaction to TJ being pick 1 and to Jack Watts being pick 1.

I can't remember being too excited with TJ or pick 1 back then, but I am excited about Watts and pick 1 now.

What's wrong with NicNat? I've read a few interviews conducted with him and seems quite modest and down to Earth.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
