picks 17 & 19

haha, i think by agreeing to sign a new contract you are agreeing to not want to go to another club via trade.

01- WATTS KEY POSITION FORWARD

17- L. JOHNSTONE FORWARD/MIDFIELDER

19- SLOANE BACK/MIDFIELDER

COULD POSSIBLY TRADE FOR A LOWER PICK AND PICK UP TYRONE VICKERY (PAUL SLAMON LIKE- CAN PLAY FULL FORWARD). TWO OF SYLVIA, GREEN OR JONES FOR ESSENDONS PICK 5. HARD TO SAY WHO BAILEY HAS PUT A LINE THROUGH. WE DONT KNOW WHO HE RATES. POSSIBLY COULD EVEN TRADE BATE.

What about this 3 way deal!

Melbourne - Picks 3 (Freo) and 6 (Carlton)

Carlton - Warnock and Green or Sylvia

Fremantle - Pick 1

If Watts falls to West Coast at pick 2. Melbourne select Vickery and next best with pick 6. If West Coast pass up on Watts. Melbourne select Watts and hopes Vickery slips to 6. Will get a very good player with 6 either way.

So Green or Sylvia will yield pick 6 ?

And Freo lose Warnock to gain 2 places in the draft ?

Fail.

Freo gain a pick over West Coast which is very important if they want Rich. How else are they going to do that? They are going to lose Warnock anyway. Carlton gain Warnock and a player. Maybe it isnt Green or Sylvia. Throw up another?

watts won't fall to west coast, because they want rich or naitanui

If that's a certainity! Definitily Trade 1 for 3 and get the extras that come with it. You would think that would be the case. But West Coast may not want NikNat! They have Seaby and Cox already. I think it is worth the punt if we get 3 and 6.

it'd work out well..cos then we'd have 4 picks inside the top 20, which is what we need- plus warnock

i just hope that freo like what we offer them, if this is in fact an offer we are thinking of putting to them

Warnock would be at Carlton if the deal would work. We would have 2 top 10 picks and 4 top 20 picks. Hopefully Watts and Vickery could be two. And I really like Sloane for 17 or 19.

I too like Jarrad Redden. I reckon he'll develop into a good ruckman. I saw him play on Naitanui at Casey Filelds and I liked the look of him. He moves well and is coordinated for a beanpole. Plenty of upside.

1. Watts

17. Zaharakis

19. Walters

35. Hannebery

51. Redden

I'd be very happy with these selections, but having seen quite a few games live it was evident that there are a number of good kids this year. Many that you've mentioned.

Interesting. Walters I'd be happy with, how did Redden go that day at Casey against Nik Nat? I agree with the first two (1 and 17). What about Hannebery, what is the mail on him Hannabal?

I would love to grab Stephen Hill if available at one of those pics, he will surprise a lot of people i think

I liked Hill to.

He's tall, good overhead, mobile and got good skills.

Alot similar to Morton, without the massive motor.

yep and its very very quick too which is what we need

not for me. his skills aren't that good.

i know this is only 1 game but his action is not ideal and half of his disposals were clangers. He is a poor mans Shane Edwards I think

Ouch. Plenty of players had average disposal when drafted, it can be worked on. Despite his sometimes questionable disposal he was still in the best couple of kids for WA over the whole carnival.

If we take Watts at No.1 i'd like us to take 2 of Blease, Zaharakis, Hill, Deboer or Swift.

Blease & Zaharakis are preferences but both could potentially be gone by then. Zaharakis is not only quick but is super impressive in the amount of time he seems to have to use the ball. People underate Deboer and he could easily be a late first round pick, main issue is his disposal can sometimes be a bit poor but that can be worked on. Swift is the wildcard of the first 2 rounds, someone could take a punt on him with a top 10 pick or he could go as late as 30, i'd like us to take the risk at 19 if some of the others we're considering have already been chosen.

You've got to be kidding, this kid can play. He grassed two kicks, the other possessions were fine, he can get to the ball and appears very hungry. He wants the pill!

I don't know which player you were looking at Freak, but he wore No.4. for WA.

Action is not ideal you say? To me it is. And he's a classy left footer too.

Naitinui - Cornelius & Zaharakis.

Watts - Roughead & Zaharakis/S.Hill.

I haven't actually seen any of Roughead. Is he KPP forward or defence or is he more a midfielder?

Would anyone consider Tom Swift? Missed a lot of footy with knees but could be one of those high risk, high rewards situation.

And who is this Mitch Brown playing for Sandy Dragons? Any interest?

He is a ruckman, could be a good one too.

At these picks im really hoping for Zaharakis and De Boer.

If with our first 3 picks we get Watts, Zaharakis and De Boer I think we will be looking very good.

Anyone else like the sound of

1. Watts

17. Cornelius

19. Lisle?

Personally no. My preference would be....

1. Watts FF (should be the number one pick)

17. De Boer or Zaharakis Both MID (De Boer is a magnet plain and simple possession winner, Zaha is a tremendous leader who plays with passion, kicks goals)

19. Roughead RUCK (I think he could end up a good player, we prob won't get Warnock so Stick with Jamar until either Spencer or Roughy develop)

Alright after a little bit more research I've decided on whom I'd like to see Melbourne draft, I have two lists, the first if Carlton can't strike a deal for Warnock and Melbourne can get him in the pre-season draft. The second if that's not the case and instead we land someone like Thomson from Port.

1. J. Watts

17. S. Blease

19. A. Cornelius

35. T. Salter

51. J. Klause

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
