Warnock's future

Featured Replies

One would hope that when supporters look back at Warnock's preformance against Lloyd, in five years time, we see it as a great learning experience. He made errors, showed inexperience and struggled to read the game sometimes but he never looked beaten and showed resilience. He tried and put in his best effort in every contest. i hope that in five years or less, he gets his reward for his persistence.

He has been given another chance by Bailey and has improved. He is now at a level where it would be nice to see him playing in the same side as his brother Robert on the G in the red and blue.

Fingers crossed that is the case..... ;)

When Warnock first played at Sandringham, it was as a full forward. Given our problems up there atm, why not try him up there again for the rest of the year and bring Frawley and or Carroll into defence for the rest of the eyar?

Agreed. Or we could do much the same thing with Stefan Martin. He seems to read the game well, has a good pair of hands, could stretch a few defences.

I would prefer to see Garland take the best forward. Warnock's best games were on Roughhead and Kosi both the second best forward in their team. He's struggled on Brown, Hall and Lloyd. Garland is the better defender he should be getting the better opponent.

While not ready to declare that we have the new Langford, Ayres & Mew, there is a bit to like about our three talls. One of those elements is that they appear to be interchangeable, giving the backline a bit of flexibility - a valued commodity in a game where players are regularly rotated in, out & around forward lines.

I'd expect continued improvement from Garland. I'd hope for continued improvement from Martin. Just get the gut feeling with Warnock that what we're seeing might be all we get. But if that's the case that's ok, it's nice to watch a key defender kick the pill without having my heart in my mouth as the ball leaves the boot.

An Essendon supporting mate was fairly impressed with Warnock. A few of Lloyds goals were unstoppables. He thought he matched Lloyd in a lot of one-on-one contests & forced him into positions where he hasn't kicked goals for two years. Unfortunately for Warnock, Lloyd got his kicking mojo back on Saturday.

Warnock appears a lot stronger than in previous years.

Warnock is stronger and more physically mature than Garland at this stage, hence he has been taking the bigger roles. Roughead and Kosi, as well as Bradshaw, may not be their respctive teams best forwards, but they are big bodies that Garland may not have been able to contain.

I don't think anyone doubts Garland will be the better of the two, but he's just not big enough to consistently compete with the bigger-bodied forwards of the comp just yet.

You have to say Warnock did everything he could of. When he had half a chance he did something. It was the delivery Lloyd got that.
