Good Luck - Apologies for the Poll not working. ;)

Sorry I forgot to put Brock Mclean in guys & girls and I didn't have enough room for Lynden Dunn and Rick Petterd......................Am I safe to assume that McLean is a shoo-in? Let me know otherwise!

Demonland voters have named the preferred back 6 and forward 6, now its time for your best 6 midfielders to take the field in 2009. It doesn't include this years NAB draftees in October either (ie Rich, Naitanui, etc)

Remember you need the centre line and the Followers including starting Ruckman!

It's a hard job selecting, BUT YOU CAN DO IT!

(you thought the selectors had an easy job!)

7th, 8th and 9th ranked players will be nominated into a vote-off for places on the interchange and emergencies (voting to follow - once the 6 midfielders are clear cut via voting).

For your information the BACK 6 as voted are: -

WHELAN WARNOCK GARLAND

RIVERS MARTIN C.JOHNSON

(with J.Frawley and C.Bartram nominees for the bench/emergencies)

The FORWARD 6 as voted are: -

WONAEMIRRI MILLER SYLVIA

ROBERTSON BATE DAVEY

(with M.Newton and A.Maric nominees for the bench/emergencies)

NOTE: The 2nd most voted ruckman will also be nominated for the bench/emergencies.

Final Word: Good Luck selector!

No Brock?

Shite! Sorry how could I forget the Brock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's a shoo in!

I am imposing a 8 week suspended sentence on myself!

Apologies.....

Do you mean Jace Bode instead of Matthew Bode?

Yes....got mixed up with the other Bode..I f%$@#d it up. Midfielders has been a right royal f@#^ up for me overall.........

My 6

C: Green, McLean, Davey

R: P Johnson, Moloney, Jones

Int: Wheatley, Bruce, Morton, Buckley

You know what. Filling out this list made me realise that we need some topline midfielders. Rich may well be our pick. I mean you've got the Brockinator, hopefully Grimes, Morton and then a string of unproven or dodgy skilled slowish players but no ELITE. Let's hope Grimes and Morton come on as expected. I'd say Bailey would be looking very closely at Rich. I think our back 6 are the strongest part of the team. I'm also reasonably confident about our forwards. The midfield needs to be better if we are going to win a flag, much, much better. Quicker, cleaner and meaner!!

C: Green, McLean, Davey.

Foll: P.Johnson, Moloney, Dunn.

Int/Emg: Grimes, Jones, Petterd.

Good point Roost It. If we'd have 1 and 2 (ref: Rd22 last year) picks we could solve all our problems quicker. Ie Rich and Watts!

Forgot Petterd and Lynden Dunn too...........but the polling only allowed me a max of 20.

C- Green Bruce Morton

Foll- P.Johnson Moloney Jones

(McLean in for Moloney if he was there)

High Tower- has been a good exercise to see what everyone thinks. Congrats!

Early days yet, but early votes in the back and forward 6 sort of remained unchanged. The midfield line up is already increasingly looking like: -

CENTRE LINE: MORTON BRUCE GREEN

FOLLOWERS: P.JOHNSON McLEAN JONES

With Moloney, Grimes and perhaps Dunn to follow.....

Keep voting!

Yes I think McLean will automatically be included (I stuffed the polling page up by gulp! ...forgetting him), unless others tell me otherwise in serious numbers, but I doubt it!

Thanks..

Looks increasingly likely Wheatley will struggle to make the starting 18. Looking shaky for the interchange too perhaps......

Going forward I think the midfield group will look something like this:

C: Buckley Grimes Morton

Ruck: Jamar McLean Jones

Additional players who will get rotated through:

Dunn, Valenti, Moloney & Davey.

Guys like Green and Bruce will play a more supporting role at either HFF or HBF, of course this depends on who we draft/trade at the end of the year. If we snare Warnock then you can pencil him in, ditto for Rich or Hartlett.

I liken your line-up to probably our 2010 line-up you have good foresight, with Jamar the only query. Your right probably Warnock if we can snare him to be pencilled in.

Going forward I think the midfield group will look something like this:

C: Buckley Grimes Morton

Ruck: Jamar McLean Jones

I don't see a role for Jamar going forward. He is only getting games ahead of White because Bailey wants to have one last good look at him before they decide he's definitely not up to it. He may be a decent tap ruckman (though PJ kills him in hitouts to advantage) he struggles to impact around the ground.

C - Morton Jones Davey

Rucks - Warnock Green McLean

Bench mids - Moloney Buckley Dunn

Struggling to find a spot for Valenti, though I suspect he will command a spot somewhere off of his own form. Looks to be a player.

Also, will Junior go on?

Also struggling to find a spot for Bartram.

Apologies.....

You might wanna get the moderators to add Brock, Dunn, Petterd and Davey in there, otherwise the poll is useless.

You can take out Bode, Yze and Meesen for starters.

I have sent a message to Moderators, with the request. I was going to automatically include McLean anyway.....

Meesen can stay in.

You could leave out Yze and Bode.

Not Meesen though. He might just suprise us I think.

I also think he will stay on the list for '09.

C: Bate Jones Morton

R: P. Johnson McLean Petterd

- Junior to retire

- Apologies to Moloney - last position between him and Petterd

- Did not include Grimes or Maric as we have not seen them yet

- If we pick up D. Rich (unlikely) in the draft then he is straight in there

- Green to play off half back

- Bate to play more across half forward/wing

- Bruce. Trade bait?? Perhaps a return to the forward line

Looks as though James McDonald is on the outer with Demonland members for 2009!

Perhaps this years outs include: Holland, White, McDonald, Carroll, Weetra, Yze.

According to votes so far in all 3 categories.............

Perhaps Bails should log onto Demonland to make his job easier....... ;)

Lol..

Its ok mate..

A good topic!!

I went with

Meeson (if he can get going, look out!)

MCLEAN..Jones, Valenti, Green, Morton, Grimes..

Bruce more a utility, same with Wheatley..

Mcdonald will be a hbf from now on,

Maric will be a small forward who will drift into the midfiled on occasionally next year..

Grimes.. he's the one 2 watch, im pumped 4 this kid!

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
