ah yes i completely forgot about Wheatley. Now he is a player we need to get the ball into the hands of. Someone who can kick 60 metres is a plus for any team, Not only that he is actually quite an accurate kick. I would be tempted to leave him at half back and swap with CJ.

CJ to the wing then?

yeah use his new found confidence in his disposal to hit up miller or sylvia for sausage rolls :P

His dad was a very good player, AJ. He was great in 1987-1988-89. He along with Duursma and B.Lovett were the backbone of the defence then. I recall when he snapped his hamstring too at the 'G' - it may of been in a final from memory, I reckon you could of heard it go from all around the ground. he went down as if someone shot him in the leg...................ah memories.

Hope CJ is just as good.

B. Warnock Martin Whelan

HB. Rivers Garland Petterd

Whelan and Rivers as the generals, plus youth on both lines. Plenty of discipline, marking capacity and a fair bit of dash.

Wheatley, Bucks and CJ further up the ground.

Woops, the same selections as YM ... thats a worry!!! Maybe I should include Bruce.

Petterd would want to get back into the side and perform first.

B: Whelan Warnock Martin

HB: CJohnson Rivers Bell

I think Garland can be tried as a leading forward. He could be used as a swing man similiar to Adam Hunter from the Eagles. However, can be named in the back pocket. Replacing most likely a Bell or Martin. One of these players will be used off the interchange.

B: Warnock Martin Bartram

HB: C. Johnson Garland Rivers

Garland forward?? If it's not broken why fix it?? Interesting point is the height of this defence. Bartram is about 181cm and next tallest is CJ at 189cm. I like the fact that we are developing a backline based on tall, athletic players who are capable of playing tall and small.

I would consider Petterd for a role across half-back, but I think he could develop into a midfielder.

Agree, Garland is better suited down back. Much like Rivers.

Where do you see Whelan at?

I would consider Petterd for a role across half-back, but I think he could develop into a midfielder.

In a recent article I read that he wants to play midfield.

However, I see him as a HBF for now.

There's a little bit of support for Frawley (Chippa), for a starting defender in the line-up next year. May just get a spot on the interchange bench in our line-up i reckon.

Not saying that your team is lacking in quality,

but that is very in experienced. There must be less than 100 games in there.

One way to give them experience :P

Didn't really think of that when I picked the back 6 tbh. Whelan could probably take Buckley or CJs spot if they were playing a team that has good small forwards eg Collingwood, Doggies

One way to give them experience is play them....correct Eastie Boyz

Not much has changed after 90 odd votes. I think we can now lock the top 6 defenders in now. Frawley (26 votes) and Bartram (21 votes) will be considered for the bench.

My back 6

B: Whelan, Garland, Frawley

HB: C Johnson, Martin, Rivers

Int: Bartram

Mids: Petterd, Buckley, Wheatley -- not considered for back 6

Yes. Nice back 6. Do you prefer Frawley over Warnock?

Buckley, Wheatley have been posted a number of times and recommended as players for the wing, midfield, as has Petterd, by various posters.

Personally I think Buckley has what it takes to fill in a Half back Flank role in the future. He just needs more development on his defensive side. He has the run & carry to break lines at half back which helps set up forward moves and the quick transition of the ball to the forward line. Much like the Peter and Shaun Burgoynes and Peter Matera's of the football world.

Garland and Rivers the standouts for defence, Martin then follows...this is a very significant opinion.

The 6 are locked in.

As much as Warnock has improved this year, I would still rather give Frawley the chance next year. Warnock still has his deficiencies and we have been praising him this year even though he has had some bags kicked on him ie: Roughead still kicked 4 or 5 on him and Richo smashed him..

Besides Frawley has more strings to his bow and can be a bit more damaging going forward..

That's taken on board. Frawley was the 7th most voted defender, and has earned himself to be nominated to the interchange, and worst case emergency for the best side for next year.

A poll will begin soon for voting to commence for these with 10 players. 7 positions will be filled (4 interchange).

Stay tuned...

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
