SAM NEWMAN

Calabreseboy, what do you mean by 'political correctness'? The way it struck me was that it means that you don't go around deliberately being offensive, particularly to weaker or marginalised groups. How do you understand the term, cause it strikes me that a lot of people think that it means you cannot say anything about anything?

PC is a good thing, but this country is becoming too censored for its own good. You can't do anything now. People complain for the sake of it.

Newman is a typical shock jock

Most of the time he is entertaining but to me smut has a 2 edged sword

Saw him play many times and never rated him above a very good ruckman but his status of *champion* is media hype

remember the day he clashed with Don Mckenzie (Essendon) and lost a kidney as a result

never questioned his courage though

CB, I agree that PC is a good thing. I think the difficulty comes from two over-reactions. First, something is said that is offensive; then somone says that nothing can be said. In reaction to the seond statement, people throw out the logic behind not be offensive and being thoughtful.

That said :), I do not think that PC has gone too far. When have you been corrected for saying something non-PC? It has never happened to me and I've worked in some relatively robust places.

I just find it difficult to comprehend why there is more criticism thrown at Sam NEWMAN for his actions than what there is for a 'rock-spider' photographer who wants to display nude 13 year old girls and call it 'art'!

Women came out and defended that 'so called artist' for his portrayal of the naked girl, but they attack Sam for attempts at comedy.

More cases of bullying against Sam, but that seems to be ok. Go figure?

God I hate Hutchy. Take himself so seriously.

Moose, I think the two things are fairly different. Henson's work has been about portrayals of adolescence and a good argument can at least be made about it. Sam just attacks and demeans and no good argument can be made. He's sexist - makes derogatory statements/acts about women as a group. Henson plays on innocence/purity/growing up in an entirely different way. He is not being derogatory/sexist, stereotyping anybody. That said, you can evaluate the 'porn' or not nature of his work of course. It just isn't sexist.

Sam's great. Finally someone on TV who isn't afraid to speak his mind even with some people in this overly politically-correct country constantly on his back.

I know a lot of people will agree with you CB and I respect your right to have this opinion.

I'm not one of them, however. I find Sam crass, insensitive, rude, disrespectful, unintelligent and not funny at all. Just my opinion.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
