Common sense prevails.

For sure. I'm not going to take credit for White taking over from Clarke, who moves out of the team, because it's an obvious decision :P

the ICC did an all time one day side for 40th anniversary of one day cricket

Opening batsmen: Sachin Tendulkar (India) and Virender Sehwag (India)

Middle order: Brian Lara (West Indies), Viv Richards (West Indies) and Ricky Ponting (Australia)

All-rounder: Kapil Dev (India)

Wicketkeeper: Adam Gilchrist (Australia)Spinner: Muttiah Muralidaran (Sri Lanka)

Fast bowlers: Wasim Akram (Pakistan), Glenn McGrath (Australia) and Allan Donald (South Africa)

12th man: Michael Bevan (Australia), the player who received the most number of votes without being enough to make the would-be starting 11

Thanks - I hadn't heard of this.

So Bevan needs to push out Lara, Richards, or Ponting if he's to nab a spot.

You think so??

I reckon RR makes a fair point - Knott was an excellent keeper. I doubt even Prior rates his glovework at that standard. He's definitely improved, though.

Prior may never play as well again on any tour, but on this one he nailed it.

6 catches on Boxing Day in front of 85,000 he won't forget that in a while. That is the best effort from an English keeper i have seen since A.P.E. Knott was there.

That's all i was saying....

Well our wonderful Captain ( yes the under wear salesman )has done it again!

Leading from the front he has made a magnificant 10.

Continuing on from were he left off in 2010.

Well he has played at 5, 4 now 3

can we hope for 2, 1 and you are out! gone !

Perhaps we could hide him at 6 he could not be much worse than Smith.

and so we head off to the World cup

With A captain who has not played for 7 weeeks and was in poor form.

A VC who is bad and very slow on his good days ( have not seen one for a while )

A number 4 who has a bad hamstring if he gets a game

A number 6 who has not made a score all summer

Three bowlers who cannot bowl a tight line to save themselves and one of which gets very tired bowling three over spells.

Does not look pretty!

cannot see us getting into the top 6 teams.

Oh well looking on the positive side.

By April we will have a new Chairman of selectors, a new coach and several of the current lot will have confined

themselves to the shield ranks never to be seen again.

This might be the time not be picked!

How luck are Siddle and Company to be left out.

The last 2 weeks of Demonland have evaporated into the ether...thus my scathing essays on Andrew Hilditch and his band of yes men have gone-But he will not escape my wrath.

Good to see that PILLOW Clarke failed again....I cannot wait for Cricket Australia to be exposed...

Scathing. You cant even put together a substantive point when challenge. I am sure Hilditch is shaking in his boots for the next misguided revelation.

Keep on the case Sherlock.

Well you are in the Hilditch Camp RR, his comments Post Test series have been rivetting.

Hilditch is more interested in Legal work than as a selector, but his ego won't let him step down. He doesn't even read Press releases.

Spot on His selections have been either no change or he picks someone out of nowhere.

His contract is up in April it cannot come quick enough for me.

You know what. I could have predicted you would come back with that dumb response. "Well if you dont agree with me then you must think he is doing a good job". Its dimmer than your scathing essays.

Just like you dont read and understand other posters point of view.

Go and re read his scathing essays. Probing stuff.

Hi Rhino there is one unescapable fact concerning Mr. Hilditch.

He is part time!

It is the 21st. Century for god sake, Australia should have a full time chairman of selectors.

It is not his fault in this matter it is at the feet of the ACB board.

They should have said Full time or nothing.

lets get with it ACB are you serious or trapped in a by gone age?

Part time has got a lot to do with it, His comments post ashes have been quite Bizarre.

Unaware that M Hussey was going in for surgery, did he watch the game where Hussey did the Hammy-i doubt it.

Selecting Shaun Tait is another piece of comedy

There are 2 reasons the Bloke is a liability-Stick to the court rooms Andrew, Cricket shall not miss you.

Another great scathing essay WYL. Well researched, thoughtful and deeply incisive.

FWIW. His post Ashes comment was at worst ill judged. Whether we had retained the Ashes or not, Hilditch was not going to take another contract. The ACB have been planning and are grooming G Chappell for the C of S.

Given Australia has six front line quicks injured and thats not including the strike power of Hilfy, Mitch and Dougy. who would you have chosen beside Tait and what would your World Cup strategy have been WYL???

Posted

I'm not WYL, but Siddle is the obvious choice if Tait wasn't to be picked. There are also guys like Pattison (sic?).

Regarding Chappell, I'm not convinced he is a great choice as full-time selector. If he had his way when Indian coach many of the senior players would have been jettisoned before their time.

There's also the issue of him juggling selection and that development role - there's some potential conflict of interest there IMO (even if unintended).

Someone wrote about this stuff in a recent The Age article, I think.

Tait was a breakdown waiting to happen, even when "fit" his fitness seldom allows him to bowl more than 4 overs on the trot.

he is a one trick pony, fast and nothing else.

He also has trouble bowling a consistantly tight line.

Should never have been picked he is from the past and no longer good enough.

There is a God after all as he broke now and not in The middle of the World Cup.

Siddle & Dirk Nannes maybe??

Hiditch's comments post ashes were far worse than "ill timed" (you a spin writer by trade at all?)

His comments smacked off arrogance and disregard..."The selectors have done a fine job"....how can you ill time that?

Clarke out for 9 (again) The limited over game is not for him...i wish certain people could see that.

You mean there is a game for Him!

Took himself out of 20/20 because he was too slow.

Cannot make runs in the fifty over version

and has one reasonable score at Test level in twelve months.

Back to NSW for me and the faster the better.

There are a dozen batsman at State level that could not be any worse.

Give one of them a go anyone! how could they do any worse!

Well done to work off Rogues suggestion. OK so what have they done of recent to suggest they are one day options. Siddle may lack the variation for the one day game and Nannes has not featured of late in the OD arena. I am not sure there are compelling options that necessarliy make Taits selection a "comedy"

For someone who claims to work/ have worked in the media you really do miss alot.

Hilditch is not a media performer and most of that work has been done by Chappell this summer. His comments suggested neither arrogance or disregard but a defensive response to media criticism. Given their is to be a review of the performance of all sectors of Australian cricket the comment was indeed ill timed and should have been better managed.

But as usual you take things out of context and relevance. Got enough pins to stick WYL?

Sorry RR i don't buy any of that. I have actually followed Nannes for a while and he deserves a bowl IMO.

Tait bowls one over and then needs long service leave, i find it Comedic.

Andrew Hilditch not a media performer, tell me something i do not know. The Chairman of selectors should be very Media Savvy thankyou.

What is out of context with hilditch except himself??

Sorry if Rouge also mentioned Siddle as well, it's a fair call that he could be bowling, although today the Bowling was pretty good-Clarke is still continuing to impress us all, but i forgot he is the annointed captain....Carry on.

Of course you wouldnt WYL it does not suit your suffocatingly narrow terms of reference.

Tait has been a very effective strike bowler at times in the limited over forms of the game. I am sure he is a sure bet for selection but I while I may not have selected him myself, Australia is not overflowing with options given the injuries at state. And your comment about Tait bowling one over and taking LSL is more reflective of you WYL. Dismal.

Keep sticking the pins into Hilditch WYL. He'll be gone in April. The issues in Australian cricket extend well beyond your facile attacks on individual.

It would be great if you actually sweated some of the important issues in Australian cricket with some thoughtful input rather than the tepid torch bearing cwusades you seek to make but end up looking ill informed in the process.

The great Demonland crash of '11 wiped my post, but I suggested that Clarke needs to bat lower down the order, taking on a finishing role a la Bevan and M. Hussey - working the field, hard running, etc. That is of course if he finds some form - if not it's a moot point.

I also suggested Ferguson was unlucky, so if Ponting and M Hussey don't go to the WC perhaps he'll get a look-in. (I don't even figure Hodge in the equation).

I thought his main issue was with Ganguly who was from one of the elite cultural sects in India and a cultural and disruptive sore in the ddressing room.

I'm pretty sure Chappell wanted to move along some of the other guys too - just that Ganguly was the only one he was successful with.

I agree with your comments on Tait, btw - I can see why we've gone down this route.

Hilditch is just the start of the problem RR, i have always said that. Cricket Australia needs a full revamp

I would like to see memberships sold to the public, so the entire organization is made more accountable, but i am tipping you will not agree to that.

Clarke down the order makes sense at the moment. Ferguson's knee injury was cruel timing for the kid.

I trust Chappell did not want Sachin as one of them. However, it has been said for some time that the Indian cricketers are talented but prima donnas. On a relative scale to the other Indians, their wealth rivals Zuckerberg from Facebook. With Tait there is definitely a gamble there but selection is about making those sort of judgements. The player gets lauded if the gamble is good and selectors get baked if it doesn't! B)
