Best for people to stay indoors tonight. There may be magpie mayhem. Cops in for a tough night. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/collingwood-fans-arrested-as-they-leave-the-mcg-20180929-p506v7.html

Yes taking your advice. I live in Fitzroy but just 100m from the Collingwood border and the Police Helicopter has been circling around my battened down warehouse for the past 30 minutes, just assuming the filth are on the rampage down Smith Street!

  2. Early Channel 7 coverage has Oscar MacDonald winning the final of the longest drive off the tee competition they have been running during the season. 292 meters, that’s up there with the tour guys! I think he plays off 1. You wouldn’t pick him as having exceptional hand/eye coordination sometimes on the footy field.

Well done, won a set of Taylor Mades and the gold jacket.

Nothing against Vanders leaving, i'll never be mad at a player leaving for family reasons. However, when you look at the fact that Vince and Pedo are retiring. King and Filipovic are delisted. Kent, and potentially Hogan, Tyson and Vanders are looking to leave we all of a sudden have a massive hole in our squad. We'll get the picks back to cover it but [censored] man either way we are getting 4 or 5 kids ontop of the kids we already have. Our best 22 and the 6 or 7 fringe players who are ready to play seniors are going to have an easy ride if they stay fit.

Yes the way things are unfolding you would think we had a bad year. We will have to get into trading picks for experienced players big time. No use going to the draft with 7 or 8 picks for 18 year olds.

It would be crass to sully my benefits with the notion of filthy lucre.

Correct! I'm sorry Earl but that bun that Collingwood [censored] wears has done my head in.

No fair enough as we have a no hillbilly/bogan policy here in Fitzroy. By the way Bistro Sou Sou has finally opened for business in Gertrude Street. As you know the former Madame Sou Sou bistro in Brunswick Street never really recovered from your visit some 2 or 3 years ago. Sad affair really but now they are fighting their way back. Great to see.

Thanks Earl, I'm sure Conchita would be well qualified  with a wide variety of ….. err … shall we say "experiences", unfortunately, there is a no beards policy at The Manor.

    A no hipster policy eh?

I'm too busy trying to find a new maid Frog. Any suggestions?

Uncle I have had to let Conchita go recently as times are tough here in Fitzroy. I believe she is suitably qualified and is still available.

If these are his numbers with two bad shoulders, he should be in for a decent year next year!

    • Disposals - 734 *
    • Contested - 404 *
    • Clearances - 161 *
    • Tackles - 168 *
    • Goals - 12
    • Assists - 18
    • Inside 50s - 111

    * club leader.  he was second for the club in inside 50s

Extraordinary effort and The Age article today stated that he was

first in the competition for contested possessions

    second for tackles

    third for clearances

You can’t do much better than that as a midfielder; they would be the top 3 KPI’s for most midfield coaches. Mitchell gets 28 votes, Clarrie gets 13 votes?

2 in top 5.... Great effort.

Did Braysh missing out on the first few rounds cost him the medal? ;)

Yes missed the first 4 games and imagine if our game plan included the rule that every get out of trouble handball is to go to Gus as that seems to be  the Dorks rule with Mitchell.

Are we getting excited about a Casey quality player, are we?

How's Maynard going? Wasn't he this year's hope?

Gee the kid is a raw 18 year old. What was your take on Harmes a few years ago when he was a rookie? I remember people writing him off as having no kicking skills, no footy IQ, no speed yet he kept getting the odd game and kicking a goal or two, then get dropped but then get another chance in amongst getting elevated to the main list. He kept at it and is now a major part of our midfield.

At the moment Petty is raw talent, he could be anything if he works hard enough at it and has a fair slice of luck, e.g. with injuries and how the team travels, that is it is much easier to be a champion defender in a great side, than a bottom side.

Because you posted this " Who was the guy who started this thread?"

    I did.

I answered by quoting a line from the Dobie Gillis show, used by his friend Maynard G. Krebbs, whenever he was called by anyone.

Just to educate you further, you can win a prize if you guess without looking it up, what the G in his name stood for.

Gilligan, it should be but is not I know. I meant to reply to the original questionnaire.

2 questions Why were our players slipping over so often?

Will McGovern(?) be reported on video review for the throat punch on Viney  - the one the umpire saw but missed seeing?

I wondered too about the slipping, I initially blamed the bootstudders but I now think it is a symptom of nerves, not unlike the fumbling and missed handballs. When you are nervous you tend to rush things, and slip over more.

Its Grand Final week I think the MRP went on a sabbatical some time ago.

Casey got killed in the ruck: probably the main reason they lost. The Box Hill Gent was very impressive with his 'feedouts' to running Box Hill players. Not having anyone taller than Pedersen made things rather difficult. Tim Smith is not a ruckman.

Couldn’t agree more and it should be no surprise as we saw last week the Essendon ruck Draper totally dominate hit outs and giving their midfield first use. We managed to hang on for a win but it was a glaring weakness. Just how bad was Mitch King or Flipper toward the end of the season? I thought at the time we just need a big body to compete and keep them honest, in King, out Hutchy who has struggled to get a kick for some time.

  13. Extraordinary whatever happened to the midfield today. Our strengths this year were contested possession, hit outs to advantages, centre clearances, inside 50’s, scoring more than any other side. Great statistical indicators but everyone of those were smashed today in the first half. Take away our control of the midfield contest and we, similar to most other sides, struggle. But again what the hell happened with our midfield, Max was down but still won the hit outs but the Weagles invariably pounced on the ball and worked it out to their advantage.

  14. As long as Lewis is willing to play the role that is best for the club, like Bernie, I say he goes on and if/when his time is up he happily finishes his contract at Casey and hopefully helps the coaches, then lock it in for 2019.

No use looking for scapegoats based on today’s debacle.  Going by the player ratings TMac had a shocker but that was because our system collapsed and guys like TMac were being thrown around to put out spot fires down back, up forward, on the wing and in the ruck.

Similar thinking with Jones. My thinking is Jones has been asked to play a linking role off the wing this year and specifically instructed not to get in the way of Oliver, Viney, Harmes and Brayshaw as they can get ball and handball to a target in traffic better than Jones. In the first half today we didn’t see Jones because we didn’t get a clearance. After half time he started accumulate as we as a team did. Still worth another year.

Yep that’s what happens over there. Lewis pokes Ryan who drops quicker than a $2 hooker and gets a free.

Any other game the MRP would be looking at that but will turn a blind eye no doubt. In slomo it looked like a closed fist poke/punch to his throat, potentially dangerous.
