Nice big article in today's Herald Sun on Mac Andrew. Read it in a cafe - no link.

Saturday Morning on Demonland (3)
What the highlighted part means is that even if we made it into the finals in 2020 and even if we beat the Saints in the elimination final, our semi final opponents would have been either Richmond or Geelong and they were both far too hot for us at that stage of the proceedings. We’ll never know for sure but I don’t feel we were quite ready.

Saturday Morning on Demonland (2)
Take nothing for granted! Looking at some recent post premiership disappointments, there was Hawthorn who surprised Geelong in 2008 to take the flag with a young side. Everyone raved about how good they were going to be but they crashed in 2009 and finished ninth with 9 wins 13 losses and a percentage of 92.5. The Bulldogs crashed their way through the 2016 finals and started 2017 well enough before messing up the second half of their season and finishing 10th with 11½ wins 10½ losses and a percentage of 97.1. Before that the 1993 Baby Bombers crashed to 10th in 1994 after everyone predicted a long dynasty ahead of them. They all struggled after breaking through to win flags with youthful teams that were expected to kick on. I think in every case, they celebrated too long and too hard and took it for granted that they would do it again the next year but lost their hunger.

We didn’t draft Dogga purely on potential alone. By the time we drafted him, he had represented WA at the Under 18 Championships for two seasons in a row (2018 & 2019) and had won under-18 All Australian selection as ruckman for the winning state in 2019. He also played for the East Fremantle Sharks Colts in those years. Before that he was in the WA Under 16s. Everyone regarded him as the prime young ruckman of the future and he weighed substantially more than 70kgs. Cheese and Chalk.

Troy Simmonds got a nice whack in the windpipe too.

NON MFC: Rd 21 2021
After seeing what a depleted GWS can do, it might not be such a big deal but the loss of Tex and injuries to Smith and Hamill tonight puts the Crows under the pump big time.

AFL Mid Season Draft 2021
According to this bloke on Twitter, one of the best for Vic Country in the Colgate game was Kobi George who is also a Melbourne NGA. Quite interesting that our NGAs are attracting attention at the moment.

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
My informants tell me he’s a bit one sided - on the left.

Rhyan Mansell
With all of the NGA selections, where will our pick 50 actually fall?

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 33 & Pick 50
We don’t have 33 any more.
-
Will Papley
Tom Papley wasn’t a Casey player as such - just a Gippsland Power Under 18 player who filled in a few times at Casey.

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
The big question is what do you do in circumstances where due to the number of academy and father/son selections, your own first pick effectively sits in the early 30s? Do you give up on the draft this year and target specific players to fill your requirements or punt heavily in a field where there are a lot of unknown quantities?
