  1. Don’t agree. I was also at that match. We had real momentum, in spite of the loss of Flower, who was absent for at least half the match. It was our dropped marks in the final quarter which were crucial. We were superior in all other aspects of the game. One of the saddest days of my demon life. The only concilation is that Jim Stynes subsequently had a fabulous career and did play in the 1988 GF as a precursor of a powerful 1990s for the club, but sadly no flag.
  2. Rewatched the replay of the games against Saints and GWS over the last week. Both were a lot closer than we acknowledge on here. The absence of Fritsch really worries me as he was the catalyse for the come backs in both games, and we will really miss May. It is important we win and win well. In at least two games so far we have been ahead by more than 30 points before three quarter time and failed to go on with it. We need to start burying opponents as we regularly did in 2018. We so far seem to lack the killer instinct.
  3. Rated by Wayne Carey as the best CHB he ever played on. A very talented footballer and leader out Neiter. Would be an excellent addition to those mediocracies on Seven and Fox footy.
  4. Largely agree, although l would swap Hibberd for Jetta, and maybe Petty for Jordon, although let’s see how he goes when he replaces May for the next 3-4 weeks. Overall a pretty good inform side. I’m also predicting Jackson is going to have a breakout game during the next couple of months, similar to the one Max had at Kardinia Park,l think in 2013, when he announced himself to the world when he marked everything, and has been the premier big man in the game since. When that happens, we will become just about unbeatable!
  5. I think Weid could really flourish in this set up. For so much of his career so far he was the main forward and was expected to kick a large part of our score. In this team there are so many other options and he would get the the second or third string key back, as well as plenty of other key scoring options like Kossie, Trac, Fritta and TMac. It is potentially the best forward set up l have seen at the Dees in my 50 years of support. We are about to enter “interesting” times!
  6. For what it is worth l think having a highly competent female President is fantastic. Just look at the Tigers. I suspect there are other issues at play here. People simply do not leave senior positions suddenly in large organisations without that being so, whether that be personal, professional or cultural.
  7. I’m not saying “political correctness” is necessarily a good thing, merely a fact of modern life. If you need for me to spell out what it is, then you have missed the implications of this thread completely...
  8. Yes, l think this is probably pretty right. Maybe playing TMac in defence some of the time. It is no doubt tho a weaker side without May.
  9. I doubt we are being told the whole story here. It is just too sudden to be a coincidence. In this era of political correctness, often quite justified, l wonder what more there is to this story. Certainly, it seems very sudden...it would be good for all concerned (including Glenn B) for there to be more transparency in this, especially as it comes as we are seemingly about to embark on a golden era, in no small part set up by Glenn himself!
  10. I am a 50 year MCC member and a die-hard Dees fan. This side is certainly better and more versatile than 2000. More strings to the bow, but also a very different era. What l like about now is that everyone seems to be playing their role, and the effect is just fantastic. No doubt there will be down times, but it is very encouraging nevertheless. Go Dees!
  11. Melksham crucially has kicked pressure goals in pressure games, notably in Perth when we beat WC prior to the finals in 2018. He is a big occasion player. He has to prove that tho as we meet our main rivals in the next six weeks. I worry that we have some good servants, who go missing in cut throat games. This is now getting serious as we move towards being genuine contenders, the selection criteria therefore becomes a little different.
  12. I’d play Fritsch on the bench to start with. Certainly he deserves to be in the 20.
  13. Here’s my thoughts... FF: Spargo. Brown. Jackson HF: Kossie. Weid. Melsham With Tmacd now back to close to his 2018 form, clearly he deserves a spot. Apparently, the plan preseason was to play him on the wing should his form warrant it. Whilst this is a good idea, l think we should consider having him on the ball since he is the best endurance runner at the club, and also a good kick/mark. Jackson also needs to be encouraged to back himself in his marking. We have seen just flashes of what he is capable of, which is very exciting. Oh yes, and we need to teach him to kick!! This I think turns the forward line from our biggest weakness into one of our biggest strengths, and could just about turn us into a top two side.
  14. All the more reason why we need to be in the top four from now on. It is the best way to retain the our best players and attract top talent. Once Brown and Weid return, l really think we have the makings of a premiership team. Is the coach up for it?
  15. And the Weed. Will make us airy strong outfit.
  16. Reminds me a lot of Jeff Farmer....
  17. Who can we get to teach Jacko to kick? Gary Lyon, Tom Macdonald??
  18. Yes, imagine what we can do when we get our two key forwards in. Will be powerful...
  19. Heard Max earlier in the year describing his breakout game (l think in 2013) down at Geelong when everything clicked for him. I remember it: clearly BOG, we won well, and Max’s became thereafter one of the elite players in the game. Before that he was good at times, but hardly elite, and inconsistent. Jackson will have one of those days in the next year or so, but l think he will be more Carey than Gawn. Huge potential.
  20. Just finished watching the replay again. No doubt Jackson has a very high upside. Some of the marks he took up forward, particularly in the second half were true class. l still don’t understand though why these guys are such unreliable kicks, particularly for goal. Jackson was the worst offender on Saturday, some awful shanks, but you could also put Tracca, Max, Harmes, Brayshaw, even Fritz at various times times in the second half in that category.
  21. I think this shows what a lack of ambition a lot of Dees supporters have. In my past senior corporate life there is no way l would have put up with the mediocre performances of my team, particularly in the last half. Unfortunately that is what we have put up with for the last two years after an outstanding performance in 2018. No competent Board would tolerate this. Unfortunately l think we have mediocracy with our CEO as well, there are good reasons why he was let go by the Magpies. I support Goodwin this year, but given our outstanding list, there needs then to be an end point. In the meantime we need to give our outstanding players a reason to re-sign, as they did after 2018. The complacency on here though is a concern. If the rumours about Alistair Clarkson are true about his interest in the MFC as he comes out of contract this year given his historic connection to the Demons, then that might provide a way forward. Having said that though, go Dees! Let’s go one better than 2018. I think we have the list to go all the way. I really hope Goodwin and his team can make it happen.
  22. Hunt is too loose in the back line but we need his run and carry ( wing is my suggestion). Put Hibbert to half back although l have question marks about his pace. Rivers on his day is class and deserves another chance. Daw l think should be seriously considered perhaps for ANB.
  23. I agree. I an not saying he is not important, far from it, l am simply saying we need to be able to make the case that he has a brilliant future playing for us. This is why our performance this year at the least needs to reflect 2018.
