Straight Sets Simon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
There was an interesting exchange between between McDonald and Nicholson at one point. McDonald had the ball in the back pocket, was under pressure and then ended up hand balling to another player also under pressure but the ball was spoiled and went out. Nicholson then had a crack at McDonald for not kicking long down the line, McDonald said there were no options but Nicholson correctly pointed out that it was still a better option because the player he hand balked it to was not in a better position. It just goes to show how long some players have with understanding the game. -
The Herald Sun replacing The Age as a sponsor is massive news, I'm not sure if they sponsor many other clubs but with what has been written of late I find this to be very interesting.

His problem is he waves the ball around before he drops it. It's like trying to hit a golf ball while on the run, he needs to keep his hands and head as still as possible. -

Loving the look of Dawes, presents well, runs hard and has been holding his marks. -

Rodan is an on field leader through and through, very good to see him directing traffic and using his voice. -

Dunn looks toned, always had a good size but not toned. Davey looks a little more like the forward pocket he used to be, which is good. -

Great to see the players being trained on how to tackle properly, Whelan was the last Melbourne player who knew how to tackle. -

Barry doesn't look as thin as people make him out to be, he at least has some definition already. Would easily beat Morton in an arm wrestle. -

McDonald and Nicholson look to be opening up a butcher shop together. -
Jack Trengove. His Star Yet To Shine?

No, it's about doing research and fact checking. -
Jack Trengove. His Star Yet To Shine?
Straight Sets Simon replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
"Jack Trengove who burst onto the scene in 2010 and averaged 19 disposals in a manner that began to justify the club's decision to use its now-controversial priority pick to secure him." If they can't even get the basic facts right, how am I supposed to believe them when it comes to bigger issues? -
Watts might be quick but he doesn't use his speed, especially in the first five metres.

It's been far too long since anyone has written this here. -
Even when Watts is playing his best football he is still soft. That is what is holding him back from ever becoming a star.

His kicking is a bit better than say Nicholson and Fitzpatrick, the problem is he often refuses to kick the ball and too often looks to use the ball by hand instead.

Melbourne unveils new leadership group

I don't warm to Trengove as Captain, for his own sake he shouldn't have the extra pressure. -

That is a lot of players! -
Wasn't Watts going to Carlton?
-
Good stuff, Robbie. If true, I agree that things have swing our way if they are focusing on the games instead of meetings. The games are meaningless if there is no context or clear motive.
-
Prove it.
-
If Watts (or any other player) not being selected is being looked at then every time a team has rested players (i.e. Fremantle in Tasmania) they should be investigated for tanking.
-
We were all thinking it.

I love how Jon Pierik's article raises the question of why Watts wasn't given more senior games in his debut year and then highlights a number of legitimate reasons as to why this was the case. Adelaide need to be investigated because Dangerfield was still living in Victoria during his first year.

I missed that, thanks.
