  1. Amen to that. Look at GC and GWS with all their picks they still got quite a few gun juniors that haven't turned into the A graders they were hyped as in their draft years. Looking past their first few years in the system is sound recruiting if you develop them right.
  2. Thread digging... After Qwerty30 posted re De Goey being a possible pick 3.
  3. I honestly don't see the point given his output since he was drafted.
  4. Correct and we should not be shy in picking kids who won't play immediately. Our new structure off field and the apparent coaching group mindset should be backed in to develop them into A graders in time... Not overnight.
  5. True. It'd be hard not to look at who has done what when making the selections I guess.
  6. I spent about 15 years swimming and jumping into a local creek off platforms, out of trees and from rope swings with not one injury to me or any of the local kids but I've seen half a dozen people pulled out of the nice clear ocean and treated for spinal injuries after going head first into a sandbar. There's risks to all scenarios. Our creek was slept by a large group of us looking for and removing debris that may have moved into our swimming area. I'll bet the same was done where Jonesy was jumping from.
  7. That's a pretty redundant question given the benefit of hindsight.
  8. I'd prefer not to take Lever but the jungle drums are beating loudly about him.
  9. Its diabetes... He's not a lepper. I've played footy, cricket, raced motorcycles and raced in marathon mountain bike events with type 1 and its only skill that stopped me doing anything professionally NOT diabetes. Being a professional athlete is the perfect environment for micro managing T1D. Great fitness, nutrition and medical staff watching your every move. His diabetes is less of a impediment to his personal future playing success at AFL level compared to drafting a kid with a previous hip, knee or shoulder injury.
  10. Is there any merit to having 2 age groups within elite junior ranks if the draft level was raised a year? Each current club would field an under 17 TAC cup team with current rules in place regarding tagging and flooding etc and a under 19 TAC cup with no restrictions, played in the true spirit of senior footy.
  11. I agree with you. My point is posters talking about drafting kids "ready to go round 1" are blinded by kids with size about them due to our poor recent drafting of skinny kids who never developed.
  12. Its all a throw back to our habit of drafting skinny kids.
  13. I'm happy to take 2 mids if they are best available at 2 and 3 but I don't discount another fwd if he's deemed next best. My point about hogan is that he will be offered a tonne of cash at the end of his current contract. If he goes and we have another quality fwd on the list its not such a bad outcome.
  14. You've not watched the kids recently naming their price and club? Most have got what they want and where they want. Having McCartin or Wright plus Hogan is not such a bad idea. Not to say hogan will jump ship but pinning your hopes into the future on just one key forward who could get injured... Again or leave is poor recruiting.
  15. The only reason I'd go after McCartin is insurance for the possibility of Hogan naming his price and pissing off home to Freo.
  16. Agreed with most of that. Having said that now there are better recruitment staff and talent ID staff within the new regime and after last years trade and draft period I'm keen to use 2, 3 and 40 plus stretch. A few special kids can really make an immediate impact.
  17. I have no real problem with Matt Jones though it seems like he will probably play a fair bit at Casey if the likes of Salem, Toumpas, Riley, Newton, Michie and our new draftees come on this year. I love Terlichs attack on the ball and the contest but his disposal is shocking and he makes poor decisions which compounds the disposal issue. So does Trengove go straight on the LTI list? I wish Jack were injury free and dominating games for MFC. I was appalled we almost traded him given how he's been treated and the loyalty he's shown to the club.
