we did it to ourselves, langdons comments did certainly help Gee up the pies, they went in hard especially on langdon. I think Langdon's words reflected the thoughts of other players who thought they have this, when they dont. Our record against collingwood even when playing at our best is extremely poor, so there is no way we should be making comments on how bad they are. Our kicking and handball efficiency was certainly not as good and our kicking for goal was far worse. We had 3 or 4 very gettable shots from some of our best players miss. I dont know if it was nerves or over confidence. No offence but no players should be smiling after shooting for goal and kicking a point, they should be angry and disappointed in their effort.
-
the crowds behind them, the umpires with with them the commentators go along for the ride. Not too many complaints from them on the umpiring, even though they are watching the same games as us.
-
we need to swap out some players and try some new players, i thought brown was pretty good tonight some of our other forwards could have a rest. we need to not continue to rotate the same players in and out when they are not playing well.we need to try something different.
-
What i would like to see is our forwards actually work together when someone is kicking the ball into the forward 50 we have 3 or 4 players who can mark who all should be leading in different directions instead of all standing still. other players should be helping to run interference or clear areas so that our forwards have space to run into, or they drag their players away from the contest to give our forwards a better chance of marking. instead we kick it deep into a forward pocket, i still dont understand why you dont go to the front of the goal square or have players leading up. need to work together to give the kicker options to go to. We have a massive number of inside 50's but our crumbing forwards did bugger all, one goal was the best we got out of any of them, which is not great considering the number chances they had.
-
I dont disagree that they should have been paid, but it would have been nice if the same rules where applied all over the ground to both sides, if they had then i doubt we would have lost, because they held the ball, dropped the ball, threw the ball, dragged the ball in endless times and were not called. so yes i agree Elliotts frees were there but so were so many others
-
Agreed, the ball went over the back of the pack to 2 or 3 collingwood players, all of our players were either going for the mark or sitting in front watching the pies run away with it. We need to do something about how clubs switch on us. All night long they switched down the same wing and we failed to cover giving them easy access to their forward 50. we need to work on how we lock down so that we dont allow that easy switch.

Elliot and Johnson kicked 8 of their goals, that is where we lost it. Elliot seemed to get a free kick everytime he tackled a player and stripped them of the ball, a different umpire and that would be a different situation. That is where the main difference was. we had a more even goal kicking performance with no one standing up and kicking a bag full. let collingwood get ahead of themselves. the more there winning streak goes for the greater the chance of it coming to an end. We were not disgraced, we did not do as well as we should/could have but thats football, hopefully next time we play them in the finals, their big head will get the best of them and we will overrun them. hopefully we learn from todays loss, as it seems to resemble quite a few of our other loses this year.
-
Collingwood tackled with venom and intent our players did not. They played well for 3quarters but ran out of gas, very different from last year when were running over clubs in the second half. our defence was possible had the worst game of the year, so many goals from so few entries. a shame about the dropping or holding the ball rules, and possibly even throwing the ball not being applied consistently, but we had the chances too many simple shots at goal early on cost us the game.
-
we should not be relying on free kick to win this, we need to rely on our field kicking, our kicking is pretty poor. The team is putting in the hard yards around the ground but then turning it over. we need to stop that switch, quite a few times they switch to langdons wing they get a kick at goal. Where are out players on that side of the ground where is their accountability. We need to strong last quarter to show then who is the better team. we have a few players who are down who need to lift, ANB is certainly one.
-
need to cover the switches, that is what killed us last time we played, we are still playing better than them, and agreed we should be a few more goals ahead as we have had a few easy misses. Need to keep going, need to improve our accuracy going forward. some of those long shots probably should have had a player or two provide a lead as an alternative. hopefully the 3rd will be our best quarter again so that we can draw well clear of them. It is interesting that Cox was called for sticking his knee into gawn and a few bounces later did the same thing. this is a blatent free kneeing a player who is going for the ball.
-
a great game they are playing well, we are playing better. lets just keep it that way, two of the easiest shots for goal missed, but we are still ahead and need to keep building on that lead. the pies are going very hard at our players trying to bury them i hope the umpires are keeping an eye on that.

I agree with JVR and Chandler coming in. Give Ben a run with Casey to get a bit of form we want him cherry ripe for the finals, he is under too much pressure playing with the dees to find that form. Casey should give him sufficient opportunity to run into some form the way they have been playing. JVR seems to have been doing well so deserves Weids spot. I dont think we should be writing Weids off yet, he has the potential he just has not been able to pull it together, back to casey for him, maybe put on a bit more weight and mass over the summer for next season. Tonight he was manhandled all night long, he needs to be able to fight that. I would also put Chandler in for ANB, While ABS tackling at times was good there was not a lot more to his game, given he had a fair bit of latitude to roam all over the forward line and still could not pick up too many possessions. He was not clean with the ball and got run down from behind a couple of times. Again give him time with Casey to get himself right. Chandler needs a chance to step up and fill the gap and possibly claim a finals spot if he is good enough. He knows how to kick goals so would be a handy addition to have.

A great team effort, selfless passing to players in a better position kicking for goal was great to see. I would like to see some of our players move the ball on a bit quicker. A few mark and then hold things up and allow the opposition to get into position. We play our best when we are running, and kicking long.
-
max is usually far better on the opposite side of the field kicking for goal, so that when he runs around he opens the angle, he ran around with his usual routine and closed down the angle. still it is wet Brayshaw has been fantastic tonight, weids has a goal hopefully he can add to that in the last and help us extend the lead further.
-
well played dees. go again and finish them off
-
hopefully chandler is the medical sub, we need someone who can kick goals available if things are not going well with our small forwards
-
I would love to see chandler get a game or two, we risk losing him if we cannot play him especially when he is in better form that some of the players who are playing now. i think we could have rested spargo or ANB to give him a chance.

Yes maybe but still a few weeks to go and injuries and other things will take their toll. We have some hard matches but so will other teams, even some of the easy teams are putting up a fight. A few injuries will hurt any side. Tonight was not a great result, may be they need another kick up the butt to get them moving. We had a few passengers, we had some mistakes and we had some bad calls from the umpires, same as every game. as long as we are playing finals we are with a chance, our attack out of the middle is the best in the competition. our defense is usually better, but missing lever and having a couple of others down did hurt. time to fix these before the finals.

may has to stop kicking the ball out to Max when English is there with him, he gets pushed out of the contest and english has longer reach, go around, find another avenue to move the ball on. we have so many returns to our kick ins because of the same thing. good finish to the quarter, but frankly they ran over us in that quarter thankfully they were kicking astray. we need to finish them off asap. -

i do wish sparrow and Jordan would move the ball on quickly after taking a mark. they seem to ignore short passes that look a certaintly and go down the line to a contest.we play some of our best footy when we move the ball fast. -

it been a pretty good game so far, we have played some good football, but been a bit lax at time. I think we need to do more about when the opposition kicks in. we do not put pressure on the player kicking in we let them run and bounce the ball and gain another 40 meters. by that time they are kicking over our players heads. I wonder if harmes was trying to kick the goal rather than pass it. we are doing pretty well, time to come out and do what we do in the second half kick away, add some percentage so that we can take back top spot -
Danger does not think it is a problem as it would rob geelong of frees for their players who do exactly the same thing.
-
disappointing as it was, it was a loss that hopefully will make geelong feel like have it over us, so that next time we play them at the MCG with a melbourne crowd and hopefully better umpires and us not having so many players contributing that we beat the crap out of them on the scoreboard. We need to make changes cannot drop all of the players that were poor, as there were just too many, but we have to drop enough and bring in players who have earned the right to wear the demons jumper and potentially play in finals to be given that chance. that should put all on notice that if you dont turn up now, you will not be there at finals time or possibly even next year.
-
even losing the clearances we could have won if our delivery into our forward line had been better, far too many kicks from both kick ins and kicks into our forward 50 were marked by [censored] players without any Melbourne player around them. If we had given our forwards the ball instead of their backs or their forwards then the scores would have been far better and maybe it would not have blown out at the end. We need to makes some changes I would like to give Tomlinson a go on the wing again. Chandler in, rivers.

need to be wary of handpassing to Viney his opponent is right on his heels and taking him down. unfortunately viney tries to get rid of the ball and gets penalised for it. it may be better if he just holds it in and pretends to try to get rid of it. Time for the dees to put in a big final quarter, show the cats and the commentators that we are on top of the ladder for a reason.
