  1. We're looking at the same thing from completely different angles. I can't make you see what I see. If you believe in subtleties in communication giving away the character of a person, then you'll come around to where I am. If you think it was just a generalised statement about the way the team can improve, then look, I'm not here to boil your bunny. And Stuie, don't label me a Watts hater, because I love him. He was the right choice in that draft, I think he's awesome. He's just got to believe that he's awesome, get the mindset of a champion, and he'll be out of this world great.
  2. Stuie, don't want to be obtuse, but I don't agree at all. The initial part reeks of envy. I'll try and put it in another way. In the same situation Sam Mitchell would never have talked about players from other teams. He would take ownership and say something like "we didn't want it bad enough." That's because he would never consider that he didn't have the right people in his team. Unintended or not, as soon as you start looking over the fence at your neighbour's back yard for ideas, you become a follower. True leaders would try to never do this, maybe do it in the dark of night, but never acknowledge doing it. They'd be more focused on their internal situation, their own back yard. Jack Watts is right, when he say's it's about changing the teams mindset. The mindset should be that of a champion, and his statements reflect the work that has to be done.
  3. Oops, no offence Ms Jaded. Replace 'Big Boy' with 'Love'
  4. Ok, I'm paraphrasing. Here's the quote. "You look at the good teams like Geelong and Hawthorn and Fremantle and those kind of things. You've got guys like Selwood, Joel Corey, Stevie Johnson, Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis - they stand up and they don't accept that (losing) for their club. "We don't have anyone like that today and that's the kind of thing that we need to work on." You shouldn't be making statements like that. It's not acknowledging reality. It's not taking responsibility. My problem is that you don't look at those blokes enviously. It takes you further away from being their kind of character. It's a weak statement.
  5. Yep, name says it all. Thanks for contributing big boy.
  6. Yep, fair enough about the one bloke thing. The whole point is Jack Watts stated that there is no leadership. He is blessed with tall, speed, skills, endurance, good mark. He needs to be a competitor like McKenzie, gritty like Jones, smart like Trengove, tough like Tapscott. If he gets a couple of those things he'll be a star. The main thing he needs is BELIEF. It really disturbed me his comment about lack of leadership. It was a very weak comment, for lot's of reasons. So, not trying to scapegoat anyone. He's just got to realise what he can do. Also, let's look at the list you gave me and compare the natural talent. Frawley = big, speed (for his size); Garland = speed, tall; Jones = nuggety, gritty, ok skills; Jamar; tall, (can be) tough, good mark; McKenzie = endurance, competitor; Trengove = smart, endurance, skills, competitor; Tapscott = tough, skills, competitor; Dunn = tough, competitor; Howe = skills, great mark, endurance, speed (he's another one) Frawley and Garland are the one's wasting the most talent, which is why they become the targets with ok results. They should both be game breakers.
  7. There was a crap movie made in the 80's that made an amazing point... Stay with me, the punch line's a killer! In this movie 3 want-to-be-wizards lined up on stage hoping to be selected by the Grand-Master Wizard to be his apprentice. The Grand-Master Wizard held up his hand and put a question to each of the three "Choose the finger that a wizard uses for his magic...?" The first one chose the index finger, he was wrong. The second chose his middle finger, he was wrong. The third after great pause, chose the little finger... He was WRONG! It was later revealed that the answer was to point to anyone of your own fingers... People put up with as much crap as they think they deserve. They speak with as much authority as they believe they deserve. They pressure themselves to what they think are their boundaries. To take the next step, you need to believe that you're capable of something you haven't done. That means, that you get to the last quarter and someone needs to stand up, you say "That's alright, Daddy's got it under control." If you walk around with a certain swagger, with your shoulders back and your head high, you'll become the person that you think you deserve to be. Become something great Jack...
  8. Well that sound like a very sticky situation.
  9. This happened behind the scenes of Footy Classified during the ad break. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=fqs9DYisSsg
  10. In breaking news, Caroline Wilson will be sacked from The Age, effective immediately. Ms Wilson's sacking follows a spate of articles written in relation to Melbourne's ongoing tanking investigation. The findings were published on Monday night that absolved all Melbourne staff of any responsibility. The Age's representative stated that the publication and Ms Wilson are heading in different directions. Part of the new direction of 'The Age' was to lift the integrity of the publication, by checking facts, not passing innuendo as quotes, distinguishing opinion and reporting, letting go of personal gripes and to not take notes next to the water-cooler. During the seven month investigation Ms Wilson wrote that Melbourne leaders, Cameron Schwabb, Chris Connolly would be 'finished' at Melbourne. Melbourne's 2009 coach Dean Bailey was reported to be suspended from any active duty within the AFL, all of which were not part of the official findings. When interviewed Ms Wilson raised the point that despite the official findings, "there was an unofficial finding that corroborated (her) version of events." "Unofficially, Melbourne Football Club, Cameron Schwabb, Chris Connolly and Dean Bailey are in a lot of trouble. Despite the findings officially, they were to be unofficially sanctioned by the AFL." When pushed on what this meant, Ms Wilson stated "pay-backs a [censored]... so call me Pay-Back." 'The Age' has been accused by Ms Wilson of being childish by shooting the messenger. Part of Ms Wilson's unofficial defense has been that other people wrote similar finding's, there was systemic failure in the media that allowed her to publish those ideas, the findings she printed were true at the time, she was acting on good information that had been leaked from AFL house by a former employee who had the authority to push those findings 7 months out from the conclusion. Ms Wilson then accused the AFL, of being 'soft' for not backing up what she'd written in her article and said "if the media aren't going to be protected from the truth, it will burn a lot of ordinary journalists." Ms Wilson also took a veiled swipe at her now ex-employer stating that "the place had really gone to hell over the past 7 months." Ms Wilson was reticent to take any of the blame for the short-comings of the publications, intimating that she'd noticed a trend around the place to substitute facts with opinions and repeat it often enough until it became public perception. Ms Wilson was happy to be leaving such a amoral publication and wouldn't want to be part of a paper that would put up with innuendo, poor structure or lax fact checking. When it was brought up that 'that is now The Age', she burst into tears and said "she'd try to meet with them next week to smooth things over." Standers by observed Ms Wilson trotting towards here car yelling "IT'S NOT FAIR!" and then she neighed and through her hair back.
  11. This latest saga of mud-slinging by the media is actually baring it's heart to everyone. 1. They are not close to reporting they are desperately trying to influence. 2. This was pursued by AA for another beef. 3. AA was the leaky valve in the AFL feeding information to the media 4. CW hasn't had a source since AA left, GM has shut up shop to leaks (as mentioned in CW's article) 5. MFC wont' cop a punishment, because anything other than a full acquittal is an admission of guilt. Pokies are worth too much to allow that to happen. So, bang or bust. Even if the fine is less than the legal fees to contest it.
  12. Hey Kero, I like your new name. Once again, I disagree with you entirely (I'm sure I'm not alone). War-chest is for going to war. The consequences of admitting anything are too great, and the AFL will lose any case, despite how costly it will be for us. So no. AFL can eat humble pie, and if they want to be polite, apologise for AA's vindictive streak.
  13. Let's be honest, CW is more slippery than a piece of prison soap. She deflected, contorted, distracted, bemused, attacked to every straight question, but still couldn't save face from what her poison tipped pen has spewed out. Garry did as well as anyone could considering who he was up against. The only thing she didn't do, which was the one reaction she had left was threaten to walk out. If Garry pushed any harder, I'm sure she would have pushed that button and it would have been a headache for him back stage. Mind you, if she'd done that, bring in the new 'first lady', Emma Quayle.
  14. You realize at this point Caro is grasping at straws. It's clear she is hoping that the club doesn't pursue this because if they do, and win, she and her paper may be in all sorts of trouble. I don't think the investigation will come out with the definitive conclusion that no dodgy dealing came out of the 2009 season but imagine if it did? What would happen then? I would hope that the Fairfax board listens to the Cruel Sea as they had 'better get a lawyer son You better get a reeeeeal good one'. The honest truth is that the club probably did take a dive in 2009. I had my concerns about it but was open minded about it. It was a bad nor particularly moral but that was the system that was in place and we had to work within it. We saw what happened with the approach we took in 2009 during the 2012 season and we are wiser for it. This is very true. At this point, CW, after writing some very brave thoughts down on paper ('brave', as in, I wouldn't write that without sweating the consequences), is finally seeing that the result of the investigation will not tip her way. This does open the flood gates for DB, CS and CC to pursue her with an extremely pointed legal contest, that IS career threatening. Considering the job market, that's not an attractive thought. I hope she's not highly leveraged... On second thoughts... buwhahaha.
  15. Someone just posted this on BigFooty. Quite a poignant observation!
  16. I have it on good authority that Denham was going to be traded to Kazakhstan Radio National (KRTastic). They love the stuff that comes out of his mouth because they can sell it to their farmers. SEN were prepared to accept a partly digested egg-roll. Win-win!
  17. I just wanted to put my draft thoughts on record. Melbourne's absolutely stuffed themselves with cake tonight. Did someone say CAKE? Toumpas will be a star. 200+ games Bulldogs have chosen very wisely with Stringer. A lot of teams are going to find it very hard to close down Stringer. 250+ games. Big call, but stand by it. Wines will be a good average footballer. There have been a lot of comparisons made about Wines, but I think he's more of a lesser version of Bartel. Probably gets about 150 games in his career. Probably a three club player trying to find the right fit. Menzel will be frustrated and never reach his supposed potential. 100 games. He'll never be able to get his fitness base high enough. Suffer Carltank! O'Rourke 100-150 games. GWS will be frustrated by his lack of development. Kennedy will be better then Hrovat. I don't know by how much. Macrae is a cog in a wheel. Will be a part of a team for a long time, but will never dominate. 200+ games Jack Viney will have endless comparisons between himself and Chuck Norris, if Chuck Norris ever played in the AFL. First player to get to 1000 games. Sam Mayes, will be frustrating. He has class, but I can't see his desperation to get the most out of himself. Upsetting, because he's a dees supporter and I wish him the best. 100+ games Jackson Thurlow could be anything. I really like Geelong's selection. Really good desperation and will be a vital part of their back line running out of defence. 200+ games. Just spilled my mind into a page. Sorry for the lack of readability.
  18. Honestly, let's look at our Football Dept's effort. They've turned 3, 4, 13, 27 etc. into Hogan, Toumpas, Dawes, Viney. That is a massive effort Dees Ladies and Dees Gents!!! Hats off to you good sir. Worst case scenario was, Viney, Wines, let's say Nathan Hrovat and who ever is left. Honestly, today feels like daylight robbery, without the gun in hand. Welcome Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Viney and others who I'm sure we'll get to know better. We're on our way.
  19. Thursday 22nd November, 7pm (EST National) Broadcast Live via, Television: Foxtel Radio: SEN, FiveAA, GOLD FM, 3AW
  20. I'm sorry, but that can't be right. Tippett could easily have been her focus. They don't have to invent anything. CW decided to make Melbourne and more importantly the management of MFC her focus. It was a vacuous vendetta driven by hatred and begrudged folley written over four articles based on one contentious interpretation of a small part of a long meeting, that was probably a joke. She doesn't expand her evidence across 4 articles and commits a Herodias act of spite. The gutter is too high for her!
  21. Very fond memories of Matthew. Really great start to his career and deserved the high draft selection. As another poster mentioned the game moved in a direction that didn't suit him, but great servant of the club. Thank you Matty.
  22. Can someone please mod me? I'm trying to work out where the boundary is.
  23. He was He was caught playing with himself after the game. Headline read "Micock can't get enough!" It was a think piece about passion and over doing it.
