Maynard must get at least four weeks
Diamond_Jim replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Biomechanist: Once he's airborne, he's essentially a projectile. He's like a frisbee with arms and legs. Damning to say the least and it's Maynard's witness -

Not addressing the issue It was impossible to adjust because he chose to leave the ground in a manner that attracted a dangerous outcome ie a careless act -

OMG the quality of sports reporters.... The biomechanist has arrived four minutes early. She is officially better than any medical professional I have ever visited. -

Woods (AFL): This type of contact isn't common. Leaping forward in the air with force to an opponent running in the opposite direction holds a key risk of badly injuring their opponent. It's a dangerous action to undertake & it breaches the duty of care owed to the other player. -

Is there a link for the transcript or better still a video link Thanks -
Goodwin said this morning he is going in for a scan (presumably a brain scan). Not an expert but as I understand it they will compare that scan to his base former scan. Frankly if he was unconscious for 2 minutes as reported in the media he won't be back for the prelim and why would you risk his health for the GF.

At 9:43 in that video they show several instances of what is now described as a "football act" intended to exculpate Maynard. Not one is similar to the front on flying charge undertaken by Maynard. Perhaps they are meant to support the other furphy being promulgated namely that Maynard had a right to protect himself by raising his shoulder. He lost that right IMO when he chose to leave the ground in an uncontrolled manner. On a separate note the discussion about knees to the head in high marking attempts certainly raises issues but has nothing to do with Maynard's infringement -

Look at the replay It's not a smother .. it's an uncontrolled head on jump from metres away Never seen one like it before -

Yes (have never seen it done).. the question is what happens to substitutions. Seems hardly fair just to even up the game and say you've both got to put in your sub player -

What does a red card mean though. NRL.. ten minutes in the Sin Bin Soccer.. off for the match and auto suspension for at least one match (Both games have NO interchange) -
As the song says... Too much, too little, too late

Been saying for years we should give some players a half game in VFL at different positions. Even if it has 10% success you will find a back up. Who knows if Tomlinson can play forward or Spargo down back. You don't need to rotate the whole team but say one half every three weeks for six players. Turner up forward,,,, never been forward of the 50m line to my knowledge. (Mind you he's been injured for so long it's not surprising) Too late to try it now Jefferson down back for a while next year?

Flying up to second place on %
-
In a comp where % will be all important this is a very good win
-
My logic is Port If we do get through to the GF I would prefer it not to be on the back of a match in the relatively draining heat of Brisbane. And we did win the last prelim we played in Adelaide
-
A GWS v Collingwood prelim would be a fun match especially if ................
-
You forgot to mention Spargo's ten screamers and 20 goals
-
No but we have a Petracca In 2021 he had a finals series to remember as did Max. Need to recapture that energy somehow. A warm dry night in Melbourne before a near 100k crowd might be a good place to start
-
We need to dominate the midfield. JJ is not the answer
-
Petracca needs to play midfield with Brayshaw out. The Casey player who has been "good" up forward over the last 6 odd weeks is AMW. It's him Woey or Spargo. Spargo's form at Casey has been middling at best but he has finals experience. Can't see Jordon or Laurie performing meaningful roles. BTW... Time for Sparrow to play a blinder !!

The radical move is Max to the TMac position and Grundy to ruck. Carlton will be forced to defend against Max on the 50 allowing space to Fritsch. Make sure Chandler is at Max's feet to take the crumb or handball. Max should not kick unless he has to.
