Does it generate that much? Everywhere within 60kms of Adelaide books out for the Adelaide Test Match. Average daily crowd is around 35k. Assume tourists make up 20% and you come up with 7k tourists. Judging from this forum which contains ardent supporters few made the trip. The reality is that for each club less than 1k can attend. Perhaps a game at Renmark and Port Lincoln would open things up. Renmark has the nearby towns of Mildura and Berri each off which offer additional accommodation options. There was a lot written on the benefit of event tourism around the Taylor Swift concert. The bottom line was that unless you attract international tourists there is no net national benefit. Taking that to State level you need to attract interstate visitors. The reasoning is that if the money had not been spent by locals on the event most of it would still have been spent locally on something else On the assumption you are getting 10k interstate tourists the Govt of SA is paying $2000 per visitor. Event figures have always been rubbery but politicians love them. WA will pay a fortune post 2026 is my guess
  2. Tough game given that a few players are literally walking wounded. Definitely need that bye for a few. I'd be tempted to rest BBB and play Fullarton. This would free up JVR from relief ruck and give Max a little less time in the ruck (say 60%). Win this one and we have built a great launch pad. If Kozzie is suspended I'm not sure who we bring in. AMW I assume. If Chandler doesn't come up and Kozzie is suspended we might struggle
  3. One week would be lucky I think...
  4. Thank you JVR !!
  5. We could have been five goals up but we're ahead
  6. Our four key forwards are almost statless as a group
  7. Let's get that scoreboard ticking please (with goals)
  8. 4 behinds grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  9. Oh well we are at least getting forward Let's go
  10. Completely outcoached and outplayed that quarter Lucky they didn't kick straight Adelaide play a chip game.... you win 70 metres out from their goal and rebound
  11. mmmm Not the start we were hoping for early days
  12. some scoring would be nice

Nowhere near that much The league’s first so-called festival of football was held last year, and a deal with the South Australian government reportedly worth $15m annually was extended until the end of 2026 To this you would add the stadium profits... AFL get the gate receipts, catering fees etc less expenses. All up it gives each club extra revenue of around $800k is my guess https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/apr/04/afl-gather-round-2024-south-australia-schedule-matches
  14. Fans who leave after the Fremantle v Carlton afternoon clash can hand their tickets back. Others can buy them for $10 to access to the Western Bulldogs v Geelong game starting 7.40pm local time, and the money goes to the Children’s and Women’s Hospital. The Presets will also perform during the break between matches. This system has operated for many years at Wimbledon tennis and works well https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/apr/04/afl-gather-round-2024-south-australia-schedule-matches
  15. Reap what you sow. The use of discretionary draft picks to prop up teams has now become a farce. The Suns, North and now the Eagles. Hawks fans will be screaming
  16. It was open slather. No salary cap. Collingwood almost went to he wall. MFC was a division of the MCC just like their lawn bowls club etc. In 1967 Richmond became a co tenant at the MCG. (Before that every supporter of another club would always come to the MCG game against us because it was the only ground where most could sit and watch a game in comfort) The list goes on Our zone was not as productive as others is another factor often mentioned

I did not know there was a double header. No Adelaide team being involved this year makes sense. Would be interesting to see quarter by quarter attendance figures across the day. A great day for a neutral supporter to dip in and out of the football and surrounding parklands/restaurants/food trucks.
  18. You don't They spent two first rounders on Kelly. They have had the number 1 pick in 2022 and 2023. (They could have had L Jackson for example.) Sumich's comments in this article in the Age are insightful https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-eagle-has-crash-landed-what-on-earth-has-happened-to-west-coast-20240402-p5fgrv.html
  19. Our next level is not exactly bashing the door down BBB is of course a worry but his form will demand the first or second defender. If we played Schache he would get number 4. You can start to make a case for Tholstrup but he has lots of time and who would he replace. Once you include May any argument for Tomlinson disappears PS In a perfect world you'd be resting BBB and rely on Petty etc up forward. I think they need the extra nominal forward to cover Petty going back should May not get through the whole game
  20. Five changes for the Crows.... reminds me of our revolving selections pre 2018
  21. You can't really complain about that side. May's injury is a club call. If it goes wrong there's the ability to play Petty down back. JVR needs to fire (please)
  22. The depth player such as Laurie, Tomlinson etc should definitely be exposed to other positions at VFL level. The reality of the modern squad is that you can't cover every position and develop players. Can Tomlinson play forward. Probably not but worth looking at. He did play wing IIRC at GWS in a rather good side. Laurie on the other hand is a perfect candidate for multiple roles. Could he have filled the Bowey role for example?
  23. Adelaide are presently playing a chip and kick game as the corridor game is not working. Same with Hawthorn. Amazing how quickly the helter skelter style of the Pies etc has been countered. Kick straight and we win
  24. It's a long season so you have to invest your MFCSS wisely. Thursday is a regulation win. The Lions in the following match worry me a little more. Could do without a new injury each week
  25. Last week he was 3-5 weeks so there's some movement. He'll need a couple of weeks at Casey so he's still a way off
