Good thing about him is he is a very reliable kick for goal we could use a bit of that skill atm - not sure who he’d replace though
-
Would be better than Harmes on current form and he will be suspended anyway I suspect
-
He gets another chance today to prove something - let’s see if he’s ready to earn a recall I’d say Darcy Moore would absolutely lick his chops at the thought of out positioning and running off BBB particularly with our kicking into the F50 Defensively we were much improved last night and that is the cornerstone of our system - if you don’t understand that yet perhaps your not listening to the coach or players. BBB is playing VFL because he is poor defensively
-
Hardly injecting a ton of speed and agility with those two IMO - I do agree however that we may need another tall option in D50 this week
-
Not sure what they would make of the comments in the game day threads 🙄

I'm curious - have you watched any of the VFL games that BBB has been "playing well" in? His performance last week against Werribee was an improvement but still not great. He isn't in the AFL team because he allows opposition defenders to intercept mark too often and is easily out positioned by key defenders. When the ball is on the ground, unfortunately he doesn't seem capable of applying tackling or chasing pressure. These are non-negotiables if you want to get a game in an AFL forward line and it's the reason we have to play a 20 yo JVR atm because at least he competes hard in every contest. I'm perplexed by the weekly commentary about a number of players at Casey that should be promoted when the reality is that as a team their form is just ok but not great and individually many just don't warrant promotion. This includes Howes, Laurie and Woewodin. I'm not suggesting they will never play AFL football simply that atm their form is not consistent or at a high enough level to justify promotion. I agree Turner is one player that could be promoted if the opposition called for another tallish intercept defender - this week may be another chance for him. Our Casey team is where we develop our youngsters and where we play senior players back into some form - we shouldn't be doing that in the AFL squad IMO.

Better contested mark than any of our forwards IMO

Yes, I felt exactly the same way about that bloke Luke Jackson - ultimately the players decide.

Just saw an interview with his manager Trac's younger brother Julian Petracca - boy he looks like Trac, sounds like Trac I just wonder if that connection helps at all. Assume it couldn't hurt if young Ash was to look elsewhere. Sounds like they are looking for a longer-term commitment.

An interesting list of owners that's for sure including one of my favorites "Balls" and a former president who took over when Jim was no longer able to continue IIRC. Good luck to them hopefully they get to the winners room soon.

Just to be fair I think a couple of those were pretty soft including one handed to him in the goal square where he was standing by himself on the goal line. JVR kicked 36 goals last year and crashed packs and took plenty of marks around the ground. Some people (not me) were calling for his promotion to the AFL in the last half of the VFL season. I'm not prepared to write MJ off but his output atm is a concern he looks way off the pace even as a young lightly built forward. He has the remainder of this season to try and impact more - if he hasn't progressed at all by the end of the season, I think it's not unreasonable to start having some doubts.
-
Yet to do anything at all - BUT my hope is that young Will Verrall could be that guy. In some fleeting vision preseason, I saw enough to be hopeful - can't wait to see him with another pre-season and then get going. Hope I'm right.

Clayton Oliver Set to Return for Kings Birthday

Hopefully Petty is back then too - critical to our team structure. -
I thought BBB competed pretty well and his mobility generally seemed better than it has been recently. I have been an advocate for Joel Smith but IMO he was disappointing. Let's not forget that the two of them combined for a grand total of 3 goals against a Werribee team with zero listed AFL players - hardly knocking the door down IMO If there is a change to our forward line, I think Chandler is the first to exit - the only way he survives is if he is given the task of negating Saad's influence
-
Is there much difference in our form wet vs dry - for me out Port performance was no worse than the Freo one
-
Tomlinson doesn't have a great record against taller opponents so I reckon we might have to roll the dice and ask Schache to do a job - has played ok in D50 before with the dogs I think🤔.
-
Yep, let's hope Darcy Moore, Nick Daicos, DeGoey, Jack Crisp, and Brodie Mihocek are all feeling very ill Kings Birthday 😀

We should know how to play that ground better than any team bar Geelong - the AFL makes sure we are trotted down there every year without fail

He is never going to be a high possession player - it's fair to say we have high expectations from him and some weeks he is just doing enough and nothing more. If you want to hypercritical even his first goal (as miraculous as it was) was probably not team first sort of stuff because I think he may have burnt an option or two on the inside but chose to take the 1/1000 option which worked but more lucky bounce than anything else I do think we are one small too many in F50 and if up to me Chandler is gone well before Pickett
-
I know where you are coming from but that never happens on game day In an even comp and we seem to always be the hunted now - we are always going to have to deal with high pressure for most each game - if we can't deal with that then we are going to struggle Somehow, we need to try and create more space for JVR , fritta, Gawn/Grundy to operate without trying to take marks in packs of 4 plus players. As a side note I thought Grundy's efforts to mark against Fremantle was probably his best so far as a Demon - hopefully he continues to build on that and become more effective in F50

Interesting @watson11 I actually watched it again last night and felt similar - it was a serious contest. We were the better team overall but still managed to lose the game - had we won it would have been close given the pressure. If Oliver and Petty played, we probably win that game 9 of 10 times. I'm still worried about what our plan is to counter Carlton's big mobile forwards - Lever in particular looks a bit out of sorts. If he mans up on Curnow or McKay we have to hope they shank every kick because I think they will get plenty of the ball. Problem is we haven't got Petty so its only Joel Smith or maybe Schache that could come in - Disco is too small for either of those guys. So in selection this week I'd focusing on how we structure up defensively - needing one more tall and I'd be giving Chandler a rest at Casey. I haven't watched the Casey game yet but someone must deserve a chance.
-
Interesting, do you think there is a case to bring him in next week as an extra tall defender - I'm by no means sold on him in any position at AFL level but I think if we try and cover McKay and Curnow with May and Lever we are asking for another loss - Lever is not a KPD - he is great as third man in and intercept marker but not great one on one with anyone that is bigger than he is IMO
-
Look you are probably right, and this is the only Casey game this year I haven't watched (yet) It would be nice to see him use his mobility more to advantage and lead out to space more and command the footy - he does have good hands - I guess with relatively poor delivery and zone defense by most teams the ability to do this now is very difficult. One thing I do know is that atm trying to tack pack or contested marks is not his go he needs to find more ways to get involved in the play and have some impact
-
And yet they can't beat anyone bar a rabble in Norf ? go figure
-
Got it more than lots of his mates He is one of the very few that is capable of creating and hitting a target I’d be waving bye bye to others before him
