  1. Port would have been going into GF with 8 straight wins, having finished 2nd on the ladder, compared with 5th for the Dogs.
  2. And to think I was wondering how I’d spend the weekend. The replay will be a joy to watch, and the one time of the year when I buy a Herald Sun. Well, hopefully, the second last time I do that.
  3. I normally very much look forward to Dees games. But tonight ends either in despair or a continuation of nervousness and anxiety for a whole fortnight.
  4. Geelong 6 goals to 19 since half time last week
  5. A Premiership will cheer us up, and make us look forward to a repeat next year when we can attend. In the meantime, I'm reading
  6. Highest-ever number of home and away points for Dees in a season, thanks to the draw. Equal (with 1990 and 1956) greatest number of home and away games won.
  7. Apologies if it’s been said earlier, but Max winning the toss was so vital last night. 15 of the 19 goals were at the end Melbourne kicked to in the first quarter - the right of screen on TV. Had we lost the toss, it's likely we would have returned to the ground after the lightning break with WC in front. Now that would have been even more stressful and difficult for the Dees - and all of us.
  8. The AFL should just award the 2021 premiership to whoever is on top of the ladder right now.
  9. The optimist in me says minor mid-season slump. The pessimist says we have yet to gain sufficient points to make the finals. The trouble is that 50 years plus of following the team does not make me an optimist.
  10. There’s a bloke called Goodwin who deserves a bit of praise
  11. What do we see as a Weid pass mark? 2 goals, some assists and tackles?
  12. Had we been told in 2019 that come 2021, we would have experienced a worldwide pandemic and the Demons on top of the ladder after 7 rounds, it wouldn’t have been the pandemic that would have surprised us the most.
  13. Warren Dean was one of the finest kicks I have seen in many decades following the Dees.
  14. Apparently there’s an AGM on now. I registered last month and received this: ‘Thank you for registering to attend the Melbourne Football Club Annual General Meeting. The event will take place via Zoom on Monday 15 February at 6.30pm (AEDT). You will receive a unique link to the session via email on the day of the event.’ I received nothing. Hope the on-field performance this year is better than the off-field. Not impressed.
  15. Good topic for this time of the year. We could augment it by trying to track the most recent drop kick deployed in a game. I recall Bill Nettlefold gleefully kicking one in what I think was his final game for the Dees in 1982 at the MCG. It was probably in the reserves curtain raiser.
  16. Great news. (And he's just started his run up for his first round 1 shot at goal.)
  17. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/free-agency-a-disaster-of-the-afl-s-making-20201019-p566lc.html Makes some good points and highlights a fundamental problem confronting the AFL - and the Dees unless we improve.
  18. In favour of a review is the lack of transparency associated with AFL operations and decisions. For example, the other day I decided to properly test the widely held theory that tribunal decisions are biased in favour of high profile players. ANB copping 4 matches; Lynch getting a small fine, albeit for a far less serious incident. Ok, I decided, I’ll plot penalties against player rankings. But no, the AFL appears not to publish a list of tribunal findings. To complete the exercise, I’d need to check media reports round by round and compile my own penalty list. How weak is that - a billion dollar plus industry not producing an annual tribunal summary.
  19. I assumed that the headline meant an operating table.
