I heard a guy who makes footy YouTube content talking during the week about big side bias. For context he said if he makes a video about GWS he might get 100 views in 24 hours, for The Bulldogs he might get 1000 views, but if he makes a video about Collingwood it will get 45,000+. He said the difference is almost unbelievable, and that he literally can’t say negative things about Collingwood or his business wouldn’t be economically viable. Fox would have much better and more specific data. They tell their special comments guys who to barrack for. Without doubt.

Sorry I’m late to this, but I feel like the circumstances surrounding Angus Brayshaw's retirement had a very profound impact on the playing group. I think it’s fair to say that it wasn’t just that they saw someone they work with have their entire career taken away, but also that it had no consequences - in fact it had an entire sub industry advocating for an injustice purely for financial benefit. I think we all convince ourselves, because what choice do we have, that good creates good and bad creates bad. Then when something like this happens and an entire billion dollar industry wilfully agrees to look the other way you can’t just convince yourself that it’s all worth buying into again. I don’t think Petracca’s ‘get me to a bigger club’ argument last preseason was coincidental either. He saw, with very serious consequences, how the system really worked, and where the power really sits.

I like him, but if you make him put his hands down he’s a lot less impactful.

I find the fact that held his job literally insane. Imagine have a disagreement at work about your role, then leaking to the press that you’re going to resign if they overrule you, and being able to keep your job with no ramifications? It’s unbelievably spineless.

Can anyone explain to me why a former Supreme Court Judge would lower their standards to appear at the monkey circus that is the AFL tribunal? It’s honestly part of the problem. People like this create the appearance of legitimacy. The tribunal doesn’t deserve to be taken seriously.

Honestly, what do you want the club to do today that would actually make us better next year and beyond? The decisions have to be made at the end of the year. Making us look unstable toward the end of a season didn’t do us any favours in ‘24 with the Tracc mess, and it won’t help us this year. We just need to hold the line, and then hold the right people to account at season end. There’s no point acting out of emotion. It won’t bring the right people to the club, and that’s what we need to get better - the right people.

This year of footy continues to be a shocker. They should have put a pin in 8 sides a month ago and just had a play off for 8th, and then started the finals in July. The AFL should be horrified. What a dud season.

They’ll never admit it but AFL HQ must be horrified, and panicked. The season has been over for literally half the competition for months, and the fixture couldn’t have been more poorly designed. Thursday night in particular has had 8 weeks of games that have been over at half time. This season is a stinker, and I’m genuinely surprised it’s not been a much bigger story.

Interesting to hear Serong say they knew they’d be fitter than Collingwood.
