I'm surprised we'd even bother re-rookieing him. I don't buy into this shallow draft crap. They are out there. Last year was "shallow" too and vandenBerg and White in last years Rookie Draft both possess more AFL qualities than Michie, in my opinion. I'd use the rookie spot on a kid with a couple of the right traits (i.e. White's kicking or vandenBerg's size, strength, agility & aggression) over Michie who doesn't have the speed, size, skill or aggression to make it at AFL level.

Haha. Like Jetta has become Andrew McLeod. Jetta has gone from an E grader to a C grader. Calm down about Jetta and humble pie. For every 1 of him there are 50 that don't improve and don't deserve to be persevered with. As for pick 24 in the rookie draft...probably about the same as mitch white last year at pick 20-odd who, off a limited pre-season, suggested that he might be a player. 6 ft one paced midfielders with ordinary foot skills are a dime a dozen. Turn the list over and don't hold onto plodders.

I haven't seen enough of Gorringe to have an informed opinion but I'd be looking at a 23 year old, fully grown, former pick 10 before any Rob Warnock or 18 year old. This is the time they are supposed to come good and a delisting might be the kick up the bum he needs i.e. Mav Weller. I hope we are doing our homework on him.

People keep saying these Hawthorn players are only good because they're in a Hawthorn side that flatters them. Fcs, when do we acknowledge they get games in the best side of the modern era and are obviously better players than most of our spuds that have won 40 games in 8 years. Pay Terlich out and bring Simpkin in.

It'd be a very Paul Roos pick up. Got a bit of the Ted Richards' about it. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I'll personally be surprised if we take a tall with 3 or 7 as I think Roos' mantra is to bring in the talls when they've developed, rather than spending 5 years developing them.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN

I'm not sure anyone is dragging the molan name through the mud. Craig Cameron and Daniher got it horribly wrong reaching for the most aggressive player in the draft. Lesson learned. Best available at the pointy end. Best available with 3 and 7. Hogan will be happy with a plethora of quality midfielders and half backs putting it down his throat. -

Is this a joke? Most recruiters almost fell off their chair when we called Molan's name. He was rated no where near pick 9. A quick google will tell you callum twomey's 2001 phantom draft had him at 26. Yes he had terrible luck but he was also a terrible selection. Don't defend the indefensible. -
You can tell from the highlights that Melksham, Kennedy and Bugg are in a different class to the likes of Bail, McKenzie and Riley. Jordie McKenzie was shanking them from the top of the goalsquare. Melksham kicks one goal from 65m, drills one 45m low, hard bullet into the corridor, and in another highlights package kicks one on his left from 50m. Bugg slots a couple from the boundary line. I think they'll be best 22, but it'll be great if they're not because that would mean the likes of Watts, Lumumba, Kent, Garland are consistently performing.

Well done MFC for backing yourself in and making it happen NOW. I really like the idea of bringing in 2 top 10 picks to have 12 months with Roos before he leaves. And who knows if McCartney goes for another coaching gig next year. We need to develop these players and make it happen now. It sells a lot of hope to Members having two top 10 picks, but it sells even more hope and confidence in the direction of the club to kids like Hogan. If we can develop them properly there will be a really good core coming through in a few years time. For what it's worth, one of the top player managers told me in July that Melbourne's first pick (which at that stage was about pick 3) was being "locked down on a kid called Darcy Parish, and won't be going anywhere".
-
For what it's worth he also had the number of games he played this year capped at 16 so that he did not reach 17 games which was a trigger for a new contract with GWS.

I don't mind the Melksham, Kennedy and Bugg pick ups. I'm a bit disappointed we gave pick 25 for Melksham rather than 29 but that's what you get when you have a coach obsessed with win-win, fair deals (remember Jolly for pick 15?), and if every club held off in the hope of using different picks later in trade-week no deals would ever get done. The disappointing thing in my opinion is some of the gaping holes in our list that have not been addressed at all. Outside pace - no interest in Seedsman or Freeman. Elite kicks off half back - no interest in Suckling. Help for Hogan up forward - no interest in Walker. Help for Gawn - no interest in Smith, Simpson, Giles, Currie. For a coach that talked up how aggressive we would be in trade week I'm a bit surprised.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry that we hold onto Spencer for 7 years in the hope he might one day become a competent backup ruckman, while blokes like Zac Smith are available for pick 49 and 53 as they come into their prime. Spencer is the definition of list clogger.

Collingwood's 2016 First Rounder is going to GWS for Treloar as well. And we wouldn't get that anyway. They're not going to give 9-12 next year for Howe. We need to go after a player on the Pies list that walks into our best 22. Not the fringe players they will offer us like Kennedy, Broomhead or Sinclair. We don't seem to have any interest in Seedsman or Freeman, so I'd start by asking for Marley Williams or Tom Langdon, and I'd settle for Brayden Maynard. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Melksham fills a half back flank, where he has never played, better than Suckling would? Suckling is a dual premiership player and the best kick in the AFL. I'd pay him $400k just to take the kickouts. Melksham and Suckling would both struggle in our ordinary side, but one wouldn't have cost you pick 25. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

Good luck to Jake. I hope your best footy is ahead of you at Melbourne. I'm still stumped though. Melksham for Half Back Flank at pick 25 and $1.6m over 4 years. Suckling for Half Back Flank for nothing and $1m over 3 years. If we wanted a Half Back Flanker wouldn't you get the dual premiership player and best kick in the comp who doesn't cost you a pick? For the money we are paying Melksham he had to nominate for the PSD. -
Absolutely. And I think Kent will make it. But he needs to get a tank and stay in matches for longer. When you're a 5 ft 9 flanker you don't have too many opportunities, so next year, his 4th on the list, is a make or break year for him.
-
People just won't hear a bad word about Melbourne players. Kent has done bugger all in AFL footy. He's been on the list 3 years and has played less than 5 really good games. He's had far more 8 possession, irrelevant matches than he has had good ones. I don't have him in the Terlich category, and I know his left foot looks a million bucks, but he absolutely needs to pull his finger out. I would love to know why we haven't been mentioned at all for Seedsman or Freeman who offer that line-breaking pace we so desperately need.
-
I hope we tell Collingwood that we're not interested in fringe players and late picks for Howe. We want someone who walks into our starting 18. The one I'd be asking for is Brayden Maynard. 186cm, 88kg, penetrating left foot half back flanker. Pick 30 last year. Walks into Howe's spot. Went to Haileybury with Brayshaw and I see the old man even played a few games for Melbourne. They could afford to let a back flanker go with Marley Williams and Tom Langdon back there, so if they are serious about Howe he's the one I'd be asking for.

Old Chris from Camberwell is a classic. Not as good as Terrence from Toorak but surely Chris has to be taking the p155. The fact he genuinely believes the club has overlooked a top 5 draft prospect as a Father Son selection is just brilliant.

Brett Anderson @BrettAndersonIF 41 mins41 minutes ago If Jeremy Howe opts for Gold Coast, potential deal could be Pick 3 to Dees for pick 6 & Howe. North and Pies other suitors. #TradeSENtral
-
You'd need to throw in our 2nd round pick as well. But given 99% of Demonlanders think the Tyson deal was just Pick 2 for Tyson and Pick 9, that shouldn't be a problem.
-
Fingers crossed for a bidding war between GC and North. Might be able to get massive overs for him in GC's compo pick 19. Or send our 3rd rounder and Howe to North for pick 15.
-
If we're not happy giving a pick for a guy that can't break into the Hawthorn side why wouldn't we go hard after Suckling who gets a game every week, is the best kick in the comp and would cost nothing?
-
Honestly mate you should have your Demonland membership suspended.
-
I hope we are into Suckling and Selwood big time. Both wouldn't cost anything in terms of draft picks and won't water down any other compo for us. We are terrible by foot and Suckling is the best kick in the comp. I don't really buy the 'he only looks good because he plays for Hawthorn, he won't look any good here'. He'll still be ok in an ordinary side. He gets a game every week in the best side ever. He is a better player than most on our list and he wants only a bit more than what we were paying Jordie McKenzie. Selwood is a genuine B+ midfielder when fully fit. Jon Ralph said earlier this week that Melbourne were about $1m short of the cap this year, which rolls forward to next year's cap. So we have about $2m to play with. Make these blokes offers they can't refuse and front-load most of it into next year.
