  1. Have enjoyed all on this post even if the topic may have beeen derailed sometimes Keep up the banter it does divert from some of the more painful aspects of supporting the DEES.
  2. WOW I really have to rethink my criticism of the umps Thanks Skills32
  3. I thoght the throwing the tv bit was avery amusing lighthearted comment on what is obviously a divisive issue for Demon supporters. I suppose no player has ever made a mistake in the pressure of a match nor received a spray from the coach coz so many think this is unusual I must have been at too many matches and watched too much footy and I cant remember the perfect game played by anyone. \Its the mistakes; How you handle them, how you learn from them and how you develop from them thats more important. Wether Morton reads this or the article is probably less important than how he develops from it I saw him do some good things some ordinary things some hopeless things He wasnt alone. Why and How these acts occurred will need some reflection but he needs to concentrate on the good things and keep them coming I have been ambivalent on Morton and others but Crikey Id love to see the bloke play to his max more often coz I too reckon he just might have it.
  4. I was there at the time and it is still too raw to objectively remember. It seems as others have said more a takeover of the Hawks but the process being undertaken effectively meant the powerbrokers (the suits) treated the members with some disdain and certainly communications were not transparent. The vote tampering which was a perceived as legitimate was part of the arrogance displayed and when statements that "we had looked everywhere for sponsors and had nowhere else to go" was responded to by Joe Gutnick stating "you did not ask me" there was a palpable air of mistrust. While I have no doubt the intention of the board was to ensure MFC survival it was survival as they saw it not as was apparent for the majority of supporters Brian Dixon and the Gutnick camp may have lost the vote but won the court of public opinion. The fashion that JIm used in getting the club revitalised was a direct contradiction. Seeking and getting the involvement in a publicised fashion of all members and supporters. Democracy rather than a benevolent patriachial dictatorship. I hope we do not see the demise of Melbourne but believe we will need to have some on field success to maintain our relevance to the next generation of supporters.
  5. Just consider given the diversity of opinion What would the consideration been if Melbourne had won by 4 points despite Mortons and everyone elses blunders I would like to think a similar response but in the context that we won the game but there are still things that we need to do better and perhaps we would be congratulating Morton for the successful things he did including running down and turning a goal into a point
  6. That blocking plus any blocking at any time . I think it used to be called shepherding and it is a seemingly marginal call on what is legal and what is illegal Certyainly the umpires seem to allow Collingwood more leeway but it ,may be because it is a natural and instinctive part of their game. It may be called intensity I saw so many times Melbourne players give the ball to another and allow the pies pursuer free passage to put pressure on the player with ball. A Collingwood player gives shepherds off and allows a cleaner and more effective disposal That second effort is as important as the first.
  7. As well as not turning back when taking a mark (and missing the next player leading down the ground) and being forced to kick backwards and not shepherding a player you have given the ball too there are many small things that Collingwood showed us today when they took control This comes from confidence in themselves in each other and in the fact that they will be protected by the umpires. We need to develop the first two and hopefully the umpires will recognise that our jumpers also deserve some respect. While it was annoying that the pies got off to the 4-5 goal start and then whenever we got close some small action handed the momentum back. Were we too tired in the last? I think there were plenty playing with endeavour but maybe a lot of these small actions come about because of tiredness? At least there were some positives we did fight back and fought on showed some skills and some passages that actaully semmed to be planned. The defence did do a great job but just overwhelmed I am starting to support the Mid field push would have Watts up forward with Howe and Mitchell Jamar was ok and would match with Martin I reall y think we need to rest and refresh Trengove. He is and can be great but is slowly being ground down to ordinary
  8. Hate to admit it but I think Greeny's time is nearly up Was a time when he began, he would have slotted those goals, Held the marks, and shrugged off the players in his back. I still reckon his time in midfield and defence rotations negated his natural "Striker" disposition and he has bome more hesitant. Of course it could also just be a natural progression of age..
  9. Oh all right Can I vote again (Im sure I could if Richo were organising it) RR has convinced me not to be a "nervous nellie" As long as all aspects of salary relativity, performance and team harmony are managed as well as the Clark project seems to be
  10. loved the banter on commentary Still not able to yes or no He may be valuable but may stop development of Howe who I see as Leaping full forward with plenty of ability to lead and Cook who gets good reviews from Casey Clarke can then play regular CHF and mark lead make space and bring others into the game He has said he doesnt care if forward or ruck but prefers to play one only not both I think he has shown he can be a great addition to our structure Also nervous about $ relativity. If we pay "overs" the rest of thge squad may say bugger it and not kick it to him, he may think he has had enough success and only has to do the minim,um now Contract must be performance based and I too think hes CLOKE FGS YES/ no /YEs /NO Yes /NO yes/NO NO/No NO NO NO I think thats it NO
  11. Great discussion and I have liked both sides during the argument Still not sure, like to develop our own, like to buy instant impact, like to shove it up Clwood BUT Remember the Templeton Moore Tillbrook attempts which didnt win the Flag This post/ Quote got to me as it speaks of the desire (ambition) to win. This has been a criticism of Watts.(unfounded IMO) but will Cloke bring it to the fore at the club or will having achieved the flag at Cwood see this as an oportunity to wind down. So hard from a distance and just hope Neeld and coaches know the player, team, what we need and the administrators know how to load the contract to attract and retain and overall we as supporters see the performance results and get to enjoy the flag Still not sure and would not want my opinion to be taken as inspiring any action but really do appreciate the thought and comments all demonlanders make. I think it helps us all make an informed decision I am happy to support the club as I always have whatever they decide with their knowledge Go Dees
  12. My mate Steve goes every week Missed last week and says wants to be there for the 2nd win in a 13 win streak You might recognise him hell be the one saying told you so Wish I was there He has been instructed to cheer for me as well GO DEES
  13. Saw Jack Riewoldt? interviewed and he stated he bled yellow and black which was a far more frightening circumstance to a chap who was once married to a haematologist.
  14. Watts forward took 2 Collingwood defenders in his first match when we drew I think???? He has improved and represents a threat wherever he plays. The switching of attacker/defender is an option that is handy to have to take the initiative as a coach at the least it may rattle the cage of the pies and make them lose concentration on their game It will depend on the structure of the rest of the team we may have been lucky that essendon didnt score goals in 1st q but we now know the cattle are capable perhaps a winning mentality will give more confidence. The squad may begin to look better when some of our young bodies muscle up From the tV last week it appeared we had a more muscular appearnce in the team Sylvia Moloney Chapman Magnar Sellar Clarke Jamar Even Green were the mature bodies that allowed the slighter athletes to survive. A lot will depend on how their bodies react again this week I am confident taht the coaching team will be aware of the conditioning needed and will be aware of the skills that are available to them. Go Dees
  15. I hope your right The squad has many complimentary and competing units which makes the team playing the attributes required to combat the opposition is the answer playing at Casey can be used as with Watts to refresh players and also give them the winning feeling which can be translated to AFL Its not a deemotion its a deevelopment. Ive been promoting this for some time and still believe it can work I have also said I trusted Neeld a teacher to get the best out of the units and hoped he wasnt a one trick pony. The season is unfolding and the sum total of the parts is beginning to look much more substantial. Im even more depositive GO DEES
  16. Now thats an idea that ch 7 boffins should love Dont know that the afl would like it as it may show the incosistencies too clearly
  17. Have seen comments and agree that co ordinator deserves some disapproval BUT tell the boy not to be diminished but rather to feel prouder than ever His success was seen as and was very significant Perhaps he needs aquick response prepared for any future derogatory remarks made because he is a Melbourne supporter we all get them Perhaps this could be a useful thread for us to develop??? for the moment " well we managed to beat the top team" will just have to suffice hopefully we can add "and its a pity the pies werent up to that standard"
  18. Great information re what is a goal Thanks all I thought the goal umpire made excellent position so given the poor quality of the replay went with him Akum asks woiuld it be reviewed if called a goal and thats a most interesting pointWho actually calls the referral?? It shows the flaws in the system as already pointed out by others. I guess if the disgust at the decision made our team more more determined to win it may even have been valuable. And did Essendon think its ok we still get the advantage and not regroup they had many disappointing shots themselves and may have felt satisfied that this squared the ledger in their favour. A dely to rview may have interrupted the tempo and momnentum of the game which was swinging in our favour. I know at home watching I was thinking a mix of emotion and was just so pleased that we won despite it knowing we could never cite this as a reason for loss.
  19. Excellent point This scenario would also add some prestige to the former leader and maybe invite some developmental mentoring programs. I have long suggested that Green "was" like a striker in soccer until he was developed into a defensive and mid role when his goal scoring, creating disposal seemed to diminish>
  20. I reckon they should all be horses for courses Use the whole squad. The coaches will know who need to continue to be played and who needs to be refreshed. We should be pleased that we have alternatives in the successful Casey side who may benefit from an upgrade while some may need to be rested However that said I'm also the "aint broke dont fix" type myself
  21. Thats why I made the comment "attacking tasks" BUT defence is also defence not attack and the point I make is that I would hate to see the attacking nature ground out of him by the assumption of a full time defensive role. I have always said that Watts needed development and can improve last night there were many times when our player took a mark or possesion of the ball and missed a chance to play forward to a spreading( god I hate that term) player. I remember jack in other games wheeling round to pin point an attacking pass from the wing As CHF he can run forward receive turn and pin point a leading Clarke who runs into the space Watts has left or he can send it deep to a leaper Howe or resting ruck type. He is one of the few who can do this and it doesnt have to taught. If Sellar can maintain his defensive form of last night we do not need extra defenders or even attacking defenders in the back half of the ground we will still need some attacking players. Happy to discuss coz it certainly aint simple and I am certainly no coach but its great to be able to make some analysis from a winning perspective. A mate of mine goes to every match has done for years missed last night coz of his increasing frustration and clashing personal celebration. He said hes happy to stay away if thats what it takes to keep winning. Cant see him missing the QB match as he always has a few pies friends for lunch at the club I think he will go with newfound enthusiasm GO DEES
  22. I have stated before he has always been impressive and needs to develop BUT I do not want to see his potential wasted by having his natural abilities lost as he goes defensive I think he is a better player than to allow this to happen But again I certainly saw this happen to Green and Bruce who were out and out strikers who turned into grunters. Please Please release him to the attacking tasks he has shown he has the abilities for. Althougn I am sure he will be one of the most plased with the win and happy to play anywhere coz hes good enough to do anything Except crash and bash all night. Incidently I dont think we need to many of those as Mitch was superb again although dont think he would have many stats.
  23. Havent seen any yet???? where are they?????? they were happy to tell me they were going and to be fair none exhibited anything other than some respect as we had beaten them 3 of 3 but mainly got the sympathy vote. I was pleased to say we were possible of better things Just got a phone call from Carlton supporter mate pleased to say I am the only bloke he knows who would have picked the DEes in the footy tipping! He is right Go Dees
