For all our supposed depth, that is a fairly ordinary side for round 1. No way Weideman & Neal-Bullen should be playing - Neal Bullen is a VFL player only, and Weideman is at least 12 months off being a decent player. I don't know Hannan at all but it is asking a lot for a bloke who wasn't even played a JLT game. I love the logic that says that Hannan, Jetta and Garlett can play off one game at Casey, but Tyson and Kent (who both finished top ten in the B&F last year) can not. I'm worried by our lack of height in the back line, and our lack of cover for any of our key position players. Pedersen at even 50% at least gives us some flexibility that we don't currently have. Frost is a massive out, as he is a good match up for any of St Kilda's tall forwards. I'm glad Spencer wasn't named, but not sure he was given such a prominent role in the pre season if he wasn't part of our plans going forward.

Every time we've come up against St Kilda in recent years we have basically run around like headless chooks and clearly have had no idea how to combat their game plan or stop their tall forwards. I just want to see us do something, anything at all, that suggests we have learnt from previous games and are trying to counter their strengths. And Simon, if you are any sort of coach at all, put someone on Nick Riewoldt.

The change to the emergencies has now been processed, please update your squads accordingly. I will change the lockout settings if there is a majority view.

Amazing that a bloke who turned up to pre season training in poor condition is now suffering injuries as the season approaches. He should have been given a rocket prior to Christmas, but we were happy for him to just plod along. I envisage another Lumumba-style debacle on the horizon with this bloke. And yes, Goodwin should be held accountable for whatever Hibberd and Melksham do or don't do over the course of their contracts.

When I go into the league settings it is already showing as 1 emergency for each position, but clearly this is not what has happened. I can change the number on the bench at any time, but other lineup settings locked at the start of the draft. I guess I could make it so that emergencies cover any position, rather than specific positions, but I don't really like that idea as it is a disincentive for people to have depth in each position. I have sent a message to support, but I don't know what, if anything they will be able to do by tomorrow night.

Back in the day, Waverley was a great place to watch a game of football. Now you go to sh!tholes like Etihad and football seems to be the last thing they care about. The sooner they build a car park over that dump, the better.
-
Hopefully the draft moves along fairly quickly. Being at the end of the queue, I don't really like the idea of having a pick every 20 minutes.

Max is a great personality and good for the club, but he (or the club) needs to pull back now. Sometimes less is more.

List Randomizer There were 12 items in your list. Here they are in random order: 10 7 1 9 2 4 5 11 8 3 12 6 IP: 125.255.118.1 Timestamp: 2017-03-16 22:16:02 UTC You have randomized this list 3 times.

I haven't done anything about draft order yet. Is everyone happy for me to take the list, randomise it three times and go from there?

The problem is not so much the lower skill level, it is the lack of allowance in the rules / game settings for this. Yes, there are only 16 players, but they are still playing (mainly) on AFL sized grounds which are too big when the average player struggles to kick 35m. You also have a 50m penalty which is far too great a price to pay for a minor infringement, and goals from 50m penalties have a big effect on low scoring games. The womens game may be a good place to trial zones to reduce the numbers around the ball, which would hopefully open the game up and create more scoring.
-
I'm happy to go with the concensus view on all settings. The only changes I have made thus far is around scoring, everything else is a default. I have made the changes to the team size, if somebody wants to confirm this. I will try to check this thread each day if there are further changes to be made.

The upgrade cost was $30 from memory, but there were a couple of options available (another option gave you a number of choices around setting up the league, but that was more expensive again).
-
I see we have 12 teams locked in. Is that everybody we were expecting to sign up? I would prefer not to increase the league size, but will do so if some regulars have missed out. Spoils doesn't seem to be an available category unless you pay to upgrade. Not sure if they have changed this from last year, or if someone paid to upgrade.
-
I think at this point, if people want to join in, just do so. The season starts in just over two weeks, so we are getting short on time. The regulars have had time to join up if they are interested.

His kicking against Carlton was really poor at times, particularly a couple of his shots at goal. He could never be considered elite until he fixes this up, which was one of the reasons I didn't want him to be captain this year. There is still plenty of work required to his game, without giving him additional pressures.

Okay, I've created the league. Link is below. http://ultimate-footy.theage.com.au/382266/invitation First priority is for past players. I would prefer to cap at 12 players, but I think we had 14 last year. If we get to 14 I would prefer to reduce the squad size. If somebody can notify the regulars, that would be great. I will need some guidance in setting up the scoring. The available categories are: scoreboard impact, goal kicking accuracy, kicks, handballs, marks, hit outs, tackles and free kick differential (I am ignoring free kicks for and against). We can then give each category a weighting. My personal draft preference is to draft during business hours, but I know that doesn't suit most people. I propose Sunday 19 March at 8pm for the draft. Thanks, Peter.

Thankfully I missed the Port game being Easter, but I sat through the debacle that came the following week against Essendon and remember going home and telling my wife that the club was basically dead. My son was two at the time and I thought there is no way that I could make him go through that. I don't expect us to be winning premierships every year, but I wanted to be able to have a good day out with him at the footy supporting the demons, as I had with my dad growing up. What Neeld and others did to the club is unforgivable, and how they can retain jobs in the industry is beyond me. Thankfully we have been able to get the right people in the right roles since then, Peter Jackson first and foremost, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. As an aside, I pulled out AFL Live 2 recently which has the teamlists from 2013. Cripes it was hard to build a team I wanted to have on the field.

We need to get this moving. I am happy to set up the league if nobody else wants to.

We looked fantastic today when we took the game on and moved the ball quickly, and we looked bloody awful when we stuffed around with too many handpasses. Carlton were woeful opposition, and we could have easily won that game by 100 points. Most of their goals came from our errors. Our experienced players - Jones, Lewis, Vince were good. Petracca and Oliver the best of the kids. Most of the rest contributed something at one time or another. I'm not sold on either Melksham or Hibberd, and hope that they are both made to earn round 1 spots. Viney's kicking is woeful, and we are in real trouble if Weideman is in the round 1 side - he needs to develop some hunger for the contest, because he goes at half pace far too often. Spencer did very little to suggest that he is a viable second ruck option, and I can't see room for him when Max steps up his time in the middle.

Casey Fields is not my favourite place in the world, but complaints about the lack of eftpos are ridiculous. It is a suburban football ground, not a shopping centre. Buy a membership, pre purchase tickets, bring some cash, go up the road a few hundred metres to the shops. There are so many easy solutions to this first world problem, Especially when you are travelling so far. My family had a great day out.
-
So you can turn up to pre season training looking like a blimp with legs and all is well, but we throw Watts under a bus for some vague non-compliance with "key criteria". This ought to end well.
-
I didn't see any of the game, but I was amazed to overhear Angus Brayshaw say at the family day that he was surprised at how close the scoreboard was at the final siren. Given our appalling record in close games in recent times, I would have thought that every player would have been made aware of the scoreboard with five minutes to go and that we would have taken the opportunity to practice running down the clock in a match situation. Winning and losing practice matches is not important, but getting your game plans and strategies sorted is.

A great day for the kids as always. I thought it was easier to navigate than usual - perhaps having the women there as well helped to lessen the crowds around the men. The only missing player (men) was Wagner - everyone else was there, although some were definitely playing hard to get. We were on the dodgem cars at the same time as Frost and Salem. Tyson and Neal-Bullen were two players who were really good with my six year old, who I perhaps hadn't seen as being so confident in the past. Watts and Trengove are always friendly and we didn't make it upstairs for the main stars.
