  1. To all the posters that are underwhelmed by whom we picked up I ask you to nominate which players out of the ones that were traded and were gettable by our club (ie don't include Dangerfield or Treloar etc that only had eyes on one club therefore not gettable) would have suited our needs? I can think of one, Jed Anderson and thats about it. I think Demonland would have gone into meltdown if we selected Henderson or Yarran. You could argue Troy Menzel, Craig Bird, Zac Smith or James Aish but what would have we needed to give up to get those players and do they really suit our needs at this current time? I think we have recruited players that exactly suit our needs and just as importantly positioned ourselves perfectly in the upcoming draft. I don't think we would have achieved this outcome if we selected any of the above names.
  2. I think we would have kept him if Max King didn't impress mid year.
  3. We might not be finished yet. That p10 could attract another player eg Aish with other picks thrown around. Opens up numerous scenarios.
  4. On what grounds do you say that we paid more for Melksham? Just because we received p29 later you are jumping up and down saying that Ess would have accepted p29. You don't know. They are hard arses to deal with and if we were too we would still be at a standoff with supporters yelling to "do something". Footy clubs enter each trade period with specific goals to try and secure players they have identified during the season/s eg Melksham, Kennedy and Bugg that will improve their list. The club obviously believed that Melksham was worth a 2nd round pick and Kennedy around a late 2nd to 3rd and they got the job done around those picks. No one will remember the noise and drama involving these trades in years to come. All we will remember is what great pickups they were.
  5. Has anyone really considered that we have nothing of value to trade that other clubs want. I would imagine that Mahoney and co have put up nearly a quarter of our list to anyone who was interested. Trading draft picks can only get us so far. Until we get a better performing list together, and that looks liking via the draft, we haven't much to offer.
  6. Then I apologise. When it is said in isolation it doesn't sound good. There are so many negative posters out there that comments like these are common and you lose insight into what is sarcasm. I should concentrate more at the waffle I read.
  7. Grow up. You sound like a little kid.
  8. So does each afl player have a rating? eg what is Howe's rating in points?
  9. Chill out mate. I wasn't having a go at you. That said you might want to quote Emma Quayle as your source next time instead of making out you had some inside info going back to that time.
  10. Wow. So what you are saying is that our current recruiting team rated Kennedy higher that Wines? Or are you saying Neeld's recruiting team would have taken Kennedy if JT was picked up by GWS? Extraordinary.
  11. Lets chill out. We need to wait until the end of Thursday to decide if the trade period has been positive / negative for us. You can't look at the JH and JT trade in isolation. Too much is going on behind the scenes.
  12. Is it possible under afl rules to link Prestia with the Howe trade but for Prestia to see out his contract with GC next year? Not suggesting a straight swap. Draft picks would also be included.
  13. Is what Chick has come out and said today any different to the comments made by Brock McLean that caused the AFL to investigate our club? Will be interesting whether the AFL will follow up on this.
  14. Boy, there's a lot of bitter and twisted posters on here. Most of you guys were pushing him out the door last year and rejoicing that we got Pick 3 for him. Yes he didn't have a great year last year but a lot of that was because he was forced to play forward. Fast forward 12 months Hawthorn tried him in the forward line and was ordinary there. He is a backman through and through. He gave us very good service for 7 years in the darkest years of our history. His comments the other day were not derogatory towards his former club. He just explained why he left....for an opportunity to be a premiership player. Isn't that the goal of 95% of AFL players? If he didn't go last year after the club only won 4 games, he would have missed the boat.
  15. I seem to remember that the selection panel vote 1-5 on every player hence the reason why Mitch White receives votes in his only game. So if the 4 voters vote Viney BOG he would receive 20 votes for that game. If the panel thought Matt Jones had a poor game they would vote 1/5 which means he would receive 4 votes for the game. I think that's how it works. Happy to be corrected.
  16. Can someone refresh my memory of how the voting system works
  17. One of the best summaries of the year. Thanks Angry.
  18. I still find it incredulous that the tribunal found Dank guilty of attempting to traffic hexarelin to Hird and the players and then found the players not guilty of not attempting to take anything illegal.
  19. Wow! So its the same Bruce Francis. Gee he would have been great to be around in the dressing rooms. How many times was he runout? I bet it was a few.
  20. I would trade out Spencer for Warnock. I believe Robbie has some talent but has been handled terribly by Carlton.
  21. Who is he? I assume he is just an Essendon supporter
  22. I watched him here in Alice Springs live and he is heads and shoulders above anybody else on our list. He is a serious talent and no doubt Peter Jackson will try and sign him on a Tom Boyd type deal sometime next year. He is that good that he could play midfield and do some real damage.
  23. There are 2 things that I would like to know. 1. Will the CAS hearing be an open court where we will for the first time hear all the evidence? 2. Can witnesses be subpoenaed this time?
  24. It appears from a report on Channel 7 news that Mitch's battle with depression has flared up again after Friday night's match. He was in tears after the game and was unable to participate in the team song and was consoled by Chris Scott in another room. Apparently there was no abuse given by any Collingwood players or supporters. The report said that he will be taking further time off and Geelong will obviously support him through this period. It is so sad to see an absolute gifted player go through what he has. It must be shocking to have this mental disorder and I really do wish him the best of luck and hopefully be able to play AFL football again. I do enjoy watching him even in Geelong colours.
