- We cannot draft again from WA
Would be a great outcome if he was available here. Hard to see WC passing on him twice though.- Farewell Luke Jackson
Do you happen to have your ear to the ground re JVR and how he's settled in?- Farewell Brodie Grundy
This isn't the case. We gave up 33, 43 and 53 for 27 Points system is [censored] but essentially we gave 1174 in points and received 703 points. The alleged value of those extra picks to port equals pick 38. Geelong gave up 38, 48 and 55 as well as a F2 and F4 which, if they are premiers again, would be 36 and 72. 36, 38, 48, 55, 72 = 1495 points while receiving 756 points. The alleged value of those extra picks to Brisbane here is pick 26 and will only increase in value for every drop on ladder position Geelong has.- Trade and Free Agency rumours
A fair point and certainly an option for us. As is simply having the extra trade capital to lure an established player at the end of next year. However, we have repeatedly traded into the first round with futures and currently have the most capital in that space since future trades were introduced. I'd be surprised to a degree if we don't move up the board in some capacity, be it 1st or 2nd round. A few media reports stated we were keen on a top 7 pick which would suggest we had a player in mind that we're quite keen on in the early part of the draft. As for top 5, if any of Sheezel, Wardlaw or Tsatas get through to that pick we will have done well in my view, while we are reportedly tracking Ginbey closely. The trade I suggested, while a lot, would still leave us with a pick in each round for next year's draft as well. After saying all that, I think it's highly unlikely we'll obtain a top 5 pick this year.- Trade and Free Agency rumours

With 27 going their way as well. I don't like it and severely hinders any chance of getting into the top 10 this year if that's our intention.- Trade and Free Agency rumours

Assuming we are receiving Norths f2 it seems strange that it's reliant on an Essendons f3 when our f2 is a better option for them. Perhaps we will be receiving Freemantles f2 instead or we've put our foot down and said the best we will give back is a f3. So could end up something like 13, 13, 30 for Jackson and 40 (weid or bedford)? Does this also mean we are trying to keep picks in each of the later rounds to trade one or even both of our future 1sts? I hope we keep at least 1 first round pick for next year.- Farewell Sam Weideman
Jackson, Weideman, M Brown and Daw all out this year decimates our key depth. Will need to pick up a cheap ruck back-up in case Gawn or Grundy go down.- Farewell Luke Jackson
13, F1 and F2 (north 19 - 24) for Jackson and F2 (30-36 and F3 (48-54) seems reasonable to me. Gives freo an extra future 2nd so they can trade it for Sharp. They may want to use North's for that however. Maybe we will trade our future 1st plus Bedford for 12 or 15 from GWS (assuming they still have it) or Bedford plus North's future 2nd for 19. Probably wishful thinking but they have an extraordinary amount of 1st round picks and may wish to invest in next years draft.- JVR, Laurie, Howes, AMW, Turner, Chandler
High hopes for JVR and Turner to be semi-permanent fixtures in the side. Need to see more of the others but think Howes and Laurie should be pushing for senior games with Chandler perhaps having a similar year to Bedford as borderline best 22 and spending multiple weeks as the sub. Woewodin may push but can see him developing at Casey for another year. AMW is a clean one touch player but can't see him cracking into the side next year unless he significantly lifts his production and consistency at VFL level.- Trade and Free Agency rumours

My point wasn't so much about Laurie and Bowey being our definitive targets, more that there's not enough evidence to suggest Holmes was our number 1 man (which he may well have been). This is the article I was referencing before that gives a good rundown on the trades and targets behind the scenes. https://www.afl.com.au/news/533681/cals-draft-feature Here ist mentions Adelaide offered us 18 and 28 for our back to back picks in which the crows would have selected Laurie. This would have put us in prime position to take Holmes (or Angwin or Macrae) but means we would not get the opportunity to draft either Laurie or Bowey later with perhaps 28 being used on Rosman. We have clearly weighed up the possibilities and decided that a Bowey/Laurie combination is better than Holmes/Rosman. Maybe we were hoping for a Holmes/Bowey combo but clearly aware of the risk of being trumped and were happy bringing in Bowey and Laurie in this event. Anyway I think I've said all I want on the topic and digressed enough from the Grundy thread. Here's hoping Laurie kicks on and Grundy is traded for 27.- Farewell Brodie Grundy

Did you watch the video? Tim Lamb is literally on the phone asking if Richmond had traded the pick to Carlton while Taylor and Goodwin are affirming our selections of Bowey and Laurie prior to the trade happening with Geelong. I'm sure we accounted multiple scenarios and pre-draft, but I don't see how anyone can say with any authority that we missed our targets after watching this video. You'd have to be on the recruiting team to say for certain.- Farewell Brodie Grundy
There was some media speculation that we were keen on Holmes, however the draft video clearly refers to Bowey and Laurie as the two kids we were after as the best decision makers and kicks in the draft. Bowey and Laurie were mentioned by Taylor and Goodwin just prior to the Geelong trade, approximately 1 minute in the video below.- Trade and Free Agency rumours
